Chromecast is awesome- highly recommend it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was lucky enough to receive chromecast as a gift- I love it. Chromecast is extremely easy to setup. I was able to install and start using the device within 5 minutes. The image quality is great, and I have had absolutely no problem streaming videos to this device with my wireless router - content streams clear and sound is great. Packaging is nice- simple and clean design. Love that chromecast is so small- no box and no wires. An amazing product and at $35.00 it is a steal

WoW! plus the price you just can't beat it.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i ordered the chromecast on day two and it was sold out. it took another two weeks for mine to arrive. it came packaged much like you would expect and apple device to be. it comes with the dongle, instructions, a usb cable to power the dongle(even if you have hdmi 1.4 still helps to have a little more power) which can be plugged into your tv's usb port or using the included wall unit just plug it into the wall. the hdmi extender cable is not just an extension it also serves as a means to help pull in weaker wifi signals, essentially giving you a little longer antenna thats all, and only IF you need it. i really like how small it is, the size of a usb thumb drive. also when using netflix for example as it uses an android, windows or mac device to select what you want to play but from that point on vids stream directly in hd to your television and your laptop, tablet, phone, whatever you can go back to using them or power them off as the process of streaming bypasses all other hardware as soon as it begins. depending on the device under options you can stream tabs in chrome which means if you say have a windows pc or tablet and use chrome you can stream anything from your tab though not at the same level of quality as when you stream directly from a service provider. the picture quality is as good as netflix is able to put out at this time. chromecast also came out with pandora, youtube as well as google movies apps. hbogo, amazon, hulu have all got teams working on apps that they can add to the chromecast but for the time being to view those you will need to stream from a tab in chrome. if you want something truly portable that will do a wonderful job streaming content certainly consider giving this a shot. last i read there is a backlog of orders but they have been doing pretty good with typically just a four to six week lag. even if it isn't your favorite streaming video device you can always give it as a christmas gift with a guarantee of getting a smile back in return, so much better than socks or a tie. almost forgot the device is a breeze to setup just be sure to have your wifi network info on hand to enter it in that first and only time. even with the small wait to arrive this is one bit of new tech that is well worth it imho.

Troubleshooting Fails
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While I understand that home networking creates a lot of variability that can't possibly all be accounted for in instructions, the failure of the included instructions (very little) or online instructions (also very little) to address specific error codes produced by the product is inexcusable. If there is an error code it should have instructions. Pretty basic ask.

Not too Happy - I'd rather use Apple
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Chromecast seemed to always buffer. We would have to do a hard reset at least every other day.

Good features today, superb possibilities tomorrow
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This little HDMI, made by Google, is the future of how we share and view media across PC and mobile. I purchased Chromecast on launch day without giving it a second thought. While the options are limited at release (You can only cast content from YouTube, Netflix, Google Play Music and Movies and Chrome browser tabs from a PC) the future is endless as Google will get more apps and developers on board. Setup was a breeze. Just plug it in. The power cord for the dongle can be plugged into an available USB port on your TV. This will prevent the Chromecast dongle from being powered on the entire time. With USB to TV, it only powers up when the TV powers on. This thing has taken everything I've thrown at it with no hesitation. I've cast movies and music on Google Play's cloud, I've cast Netflix and YouTube videos and I've played movies locally stored on my PC by dragging the movie into the Chrome browser URL box. Locally stored movie playback is a little choppy, though. My TV is a Vizio 42" smart LCD TV with WiFi and Internet Apps. Why would I waste my money on a dongle that plays YouTube and Netflix when my TV already does it? Because the UI for those Internet apps is extremely buggy and excruciatingly slow. With Chromecast, there is no UI or program shell to bog down the experience. Your smart phone or tablet is the controller, not the TV. All in all, I am happy with my purchase. For $35 you cannot beat this deal. It isn't going to cook you bacon right off the bat, but give it a few months for more developers to come on board and it just might grab the frying pan out of the cupboard.

Couldn't get connected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I couldn't connect to the router. There are many types of routers that won't work with this device but mine was listed as being compatible. Even so I never could get connected even after speaking with a customer service rep.

Fantastic Supplement to other devices
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Managed to get one of the first batches and SO glad I did. Plugged it in to an available HDMI port for TV and USB port for power, so everything is neatly tucked behind my TV. I tried it with my iPhone and the current available apps, and everything streams flawlessly. But my favorite thing about this is finally being able to view web content on my TV. I have an AppleTV as well as other Apple devices, including a 2010 MacBook Pro. I was disappointed that my Mac is one year too old to be able to mirror my computer screen to my TV. Now, with Google's Chromecast, I can send any tab to my TV. And it's actually better than full mirroring, because you can send a tab of your choice to your TV and continue browsing other tabs (or anything else for that matter) on your computer without disrupting the signal that is being sent to your TV. If you simply mirrored the device, then everything else on your computer screen would be on the TV as well - and this doesn't do that. So it really is PERFECT for me. Well worth the $35 for that feature alone, let alone everything else it does too. And for those that say "it doesn't have a remote"... well it isn't supposed to. That's just another benefit. WHO wants to add yet ANOTHER remote? YAY!

Easy to use but dissapointing
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this device hoping to be able to use my Droid tablet as a music player which would cast to my tv then play through my stereo. It was extremely disappointing to find that this was not a supported feature. You can only "cast" after purchasing a subscription service which plays music similarly to Pandora. This was a return for me.

Did not work for me
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased it as I felt it would work on my high speed internet setup. However, it dropped my connection often and was choppy. I returned it and just bought a long HDMI cord connection rather than this wireless option.
