Great idea, needs some work.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I really like the Chrome Cast. I've now had it for 3 months and have decided to really sit down and give you some feedback that isn't just based on the first 24 hours. First, it's not what you think it is, it's not just the little stick, you have to connect it to a provided power cord, which is fine, but a bit annoying too. (Especially when other competitors don't require that step.) Second it crashes quite often. I have very high speed wifi as I work from home and need a very stable connection, I think it's important that you know that. Often times the clarity becomes very digitized in the midst of watching something. Also, the whole supporting Chrome Cast app, that you must download to any device to use it, glitches often too. For example the browser option (or plug in for the app) just simply drops what you're watching or the control of what you're watching. The Cast itself often gets stuck on something you've been watching even though you're done with it. There seems to be a problem systemically with the whole "casting" process. I have now found it to cast, on it's own, shows or movies that I have previously watched when I log in. For example I watched two different movies and one tv show this afternoon. I came back to watch something different and somewhere in the "casting" it crashed and then loaded the second movie I had watched, somewhere in the middle of that movie as well. I tried to stop it and it jumped to a TV show I watched. All very odd. I closed out all my apps on my iPad and it kept playing, I had to disconnect the entire power source to get it to turn off. These are things, that while maybe minor, I do not face with my 3 year old ROKU player. (Which incidentally is also now the same price as my Chrome Cast) It's a bit disappointing, but I'm guessing everything has some bugs. Can be frustrating, but all these 5 star reviews seem to me a bit over zealous. My opinion only of course. It's worth the try if you don't use it often, but if you're replacing Cable or something, as many people seem to be doing these days (not myself) then I would think twice.

Easy to Use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love everything about this gadget. It was so easy to setup. The only problem I had with it was that during the loading it takes a little time. I'm not sure if it's my internet or the device. But over all I love it over the Roku that I bought for my mother. I love the control from my phone, tablet, and computer. Really great Device!!!

Great when you can connect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Chromecast is a great idea in theory, but unfortunately it has limitations. I bought this to use while staying in hotels on the road, but there is often no way to connect to wi-fi if the network is protected. This could be fixed with the addition of a web browser (to accept terms of hotel), but apparently it hasn't been fixed by Google.

Awesome Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My TV had the HDMI ports at the back and it was difficult for me to plug in there as my TV was wall mounted. To my surprise there was a HDMI extender in the box. I was able to attach it to the HDMI extender and the videos play without any problem. It is a very good product to play and stream videos. Would recommend one for every TV!!

Great Product ...Totally Worth The Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great device. I have a Smart TV, but am not able to view many videos/take advantage of websites ie newspapers etc because the "page is too large" and the tv freezes up as well as not having Flash capability. So..I purchased Sony's Google TV stand alone add on and that allowed me to view ALL YouTube videos and so much more but I was still restricted from watching sites like TV Land Classic Episodes/ Bravo TV's offerings ie Top Chef/NBC or network episodes because they don't have agreements with Google so I PURCHASED CHROMECAST AND CLOSED THE LOOP by being able to cast everything, or just about, from my laptop/tablet to the tv and then just open another tab and browse the internet while being able to watch what I want. The only drawback that I can think of is that if I want to watch the video full screen on my tv while casting from my computer, then I am not able to access any other tabs to surf the net, so the video/show has to stay minimized when casting and surfing the web at the same time. Small price to pay and LOVE THIS PRODUCT. Just one more solution to keep me from wishing I had cable and more options. Google is just an amazing company.

Wish there were more compatible apps ...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this is a great product. I think the potential is there for this being the best streaming device in the market. However, the lack of compatible applications make Apple TV a much better investment. To date (mid-November 2013) you can only use YouTube, HuluPlus, and Pandora with Chromecast. When comparing to Apple TV there are a lot more options in addition to a built in interface. Either way, I'm very hopeful for this technology and as more applications jump on board, Chromecast will outperform its competitors!

Does what it says and what I want
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used it to stream the Web only content from Hulu to my TV. All i really wanted it for (was really annoyed that some shows are pc only and not on Xbox or my Samsung Smart Bluray). Worked flawlessly with laptop and Galaxy S3. Bonus chrome plays locally stored videos and casts them too. My TV only has 1 usb port, but even on a regular usb hub powered up fine with a wireless headphone transmitter sharing port.

Excellent Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy setup and easy to use! Very pleased with the Chromecast. I use DIVX software to watch movies and videos stored on pc, program easily accepted Chromecast and provides option to cast to big screen. Any video you watch on the Google Chrome web browser can be cast to tv. Also, Android Chromecast app casts from my Galaxy S4 to tv!

Worth every penny and more
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my son for Christmas, he was home for a few days and I gave it to him then. He initially hooked it up with his phone (a Motorola Droid) and our t.v. YouTube and Netflix looked great, a couple of other sites, didn't look great, but looked "okay." As long as you follow the instructions precisely on the setup screen, it is very easy. (I had read that tip before I even bought it, so we followed them to the letter). He went back home the next day and used his Samsung Tablet and his t.v., and he says it works amazingly! So much better than it had with his phone. He now streams live basketball, ESPN, Netflix, everything, from his tablet to his 50" t.v. and he's never been happier. For $35 even if it didn't work fantastically, I think it would be a bargain. You'll see on the box it comes in that it's specifically made for YouTube, Netflix, etc., I think that's why it works so well with those. You will be able to stream everything you're looking at on your phone or tablet or whatever, but in our case, not every site looked pristine. So, in a long-winded way.......my review says "YES!" Well worth the $, fun and easy to use.

Just Good For Money Spent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this device way back from BB, this is just good for the amount of money you spent. Streaming is good with chrome, youtube performs well with it. You might see some lag while working on some players with chrome.

This Is How I Felt
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Alright Im going to get start to It! So when I first bought and Brought my Chromecast home I went straight to the bed room to set it up. I hook it Up To my 32" Sanyo Tv plugged it in. I grabbed my macbook pro and downloaded the app extension for laptops. The "Dongol' started up quickly when I got to the part when we connect to my wifi it said unable to connect but, after about 15-20 minutes of doodling with it and reseting my dual band router it FINALLY connected. It works pretty well in between devices my wife on the nook with her Netflix me with my mirror displaying from my Macbook Pro it does ok. Google just needs to add a few things. Im recommending this Product because it a pactical for cost and its an easy way to add streaming And Web to your non smart tv

Nice and cheap technology
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is pretty good to stream supported programs and websites. If you want to stream a PowerPoint Presentation or any video from the computer, this device fails. Though, I still recommend it as "you get what you paid for". I can't wait for the new Chormecast 2

Awesome Streaming device!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Chromecast is awesome, it turns any tv into a smart t.v. as long as you have a wifi network in order for your cell phone, tablet, computer, or other device to stream and connect to the Chromecast plugged into your HDMI port on the television!! Highly recommended with your new television if it isn't a smart t.v.
