Not impressed, there are better options

At $35 this is pretty much an impulse buy but there are far better options. My first issues is the wi-fi. No N wi-fi on a video router? That's pretty ridiculous. I mean ac is out, N is old, and pretty much all video streaming should be over N but nope, G only. So you get pro bandwidth and connectivity. On a video streamer. Very limited content. Netflix, which looks worse than on my Apple TV and Roku devices, You Tube, Google Play. Thats it. Plus you can only cast this content so you have to use a laptop, tablet or smartphone, a compatible one, to cast content to the device. It gets hot. It uses Chrome OS not Android so hackability is low. It's cheap but for a little more you can get a Roku which has hundreds of channels, far better wi-fi, and does not require a laptop or tablet/smartphone to operate. It is also quite bulky once you add the HDMI extender and usb power source. So its not even good for travel.

If you like Netflix or Hulu Plus and have a TV with an HDMI port, and a smart device, you need a Chromecast.

Frequently stops casting during the show

I'm not sure what the problem is, but when I'm casting a show, Chromecast will suddenly quit. The problem might be that I'm casting from the laptop to my new HDTV - who knows! Then, troubleshooting the problem is like pulling teeth. However, this was a gift, so I won't complain too loudly, but I will warn others.

Couldn't get Chromecast to work with iPhone/iPad

The device installed properly once attached to my TV but none of our Apple devices (iPhone/iPad) could see the device after the install was done -- my iPhone worked fine to do the Chromecast setup, but once the install was done neither my iPhone or iPad could work with the device. The Chromecast app was useless in terms of trying to determine what the problem was, the device seemed to be working fine with the TV, but the app was of no help in determining why the devices couldn't find Chromecast. I finally got frustrated enough that I returned Chromecast to Best Buy. I had higher expectations for this Google device, this will make me less likely to buy ANY Google hardware device in the future.

    It could be better

Major flaw it cannot remember more than one networks so if you switch this between 2 locations like home and office you have to start all over with the setup again and its a hassle. Another downside, it will suck your bandwidth,if you are watching something on it and try to surf the net at the same time its painfully slow although I have 10Mbps. This create a problem for those with VOIP phones, the sound will be choppy. Lastly , the luck of direct access to the device makes it a hassle to constantly cast videos from a portable device. If you are watching a movie its ok but if you are watching youtube videos you have to spend more time casting than watching. Overall I think its worth buying since the cost is low,its very convenient for me to watch live sport games without connecting the ridiculously long HDMI cable from the PC to the TV

When I first bought the chromecast, it didn't work. I kept getting message saying cannot connect to network. My router was pretty old but still on the list. So I ended up buying a new Router and now it works perfectly.
