Broken, part fell off mid-ride
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first few weeks of owning this scooter were great. I used it almost every day to ride at least 3 miles. Today, I was riding through Brooklyn and heard a metal part hit the sidewalk. I wasn’t sure if it was a scooter part until I reached a stop sign where the scooter started to create a stuttering noise when braking. I’m scared to even ride it back to my apartment now and would like a refund ASAP. Completely unacceptable.

DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do Not Waste Your Money!! I don’t see how this got 79% rating to refer a friend! This price is outrageous and the Hover1 company doesn’t care about their faulty products! They build crap and expect us to deal with it! My unit isn’t even a year old and they will do absolutely Nothing to help me! This product is junk and Best Buy better pull it from their shelves because I won’t shop there anymore until they do and make Hover1 replace this piece of crap I bought! $400 down the drain!! Never again- and I will be telling everyone I know! Bad business Hover1

Awesome scooter
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried researching this scooter before making the purchase, but there is basically no reviews on the internet about it so I hope this helps someone. The scooter is easy to assemble. Came in box with steering post collapsed, so set up was easy. Removed packaging and straightened steering column vertically and snapped into place. Scooter was purchased because it can hold my weight when riding as I ride with a backpack crammed with a lot stuff. Holds 264 lbs of weight. Comes with head light and taillight. Has a Bluetooth speaker underneath it. Quality of bluetooth speaker is ok. At max volume it gets distorted but pretty much only way you could hear it at Max speed. Max speed varies. I have gotten it to 20 mph on flat ground, but usually around 18mph most of the time. Disc brake works for the most part. Start braking early and prepare for stops or your feet become the brakes. Battery came with half a charge on it. Honestly, read manual so you can understand controls better. Not hard to get used to the controls, very basic stuff.

Really Nice Scooter
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This scooter was easy to assemble, just four screws. It also looks like the quality is pretty good - a few plastic parts that will probably get scratched or cracked. It has great power and the lights and bell add a nice touch. Brake works good. The Bluetooth speaker is not very powerful and doesn't sound great, but it does serve it's purpose. There are two things that should be called out - 1) The charger port is located underneath the platform - you have to literally get down on your knees to be able to locate the charger port to plug it in. Wish it was in an easier spot. 2) The instructions in the manual to switch from low to high speed are incorrect. The instructions on the yellow Quick Start quide and card are correct. There really should be someone proof-reading this stuff for correctness. These two items kept me from giving it 5 stars. Still good though!

Great entry scooter!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good buy. I love the lights on the deck which makes it look cool during a night or dusk ride. The lightbon the front does light up the path when you ride at night. Of course it is not car headlights so do not expect to be able to see that far ahead of you. I have gotten up to 20mph on this scooter even though the speedometer shows 18 as max. The only issue i had was that the patch to fold the bar up and down is really hard to unlatch when you are trying to for the bar down. This scooter folds up but it is quite heavy to be carrying it around. I would not use this at a place where you would have to carry it a lot. I am 178lbs and the scooter glides. The lights on the deckboard makes it look cool at night or dusk as well. I am satisfied with this buy.

Fast, comfortable and easy to use Scooter.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Huge improvement over Hover-1’s previous scooters (and surprise, surprise, it’s a bit less expensive). Key improved features: it’s faster (18 mph), it can carry more weight (264 lbs, has a built in Bluetooth speaker (a nice addition) and has larger, 10”, wheels. The larger wheels are great — larger wheels make your ride more stable and more comfortable. It has 2 speeds and cruise control, which is easy to use, and the head and brake lights are bright! The, very cool/stealthy, integrated display gives lots of information. It can go up hills, but it isn't super quick on hills, as expected. It is really fun zipping around the neighborhood. It’s easy to assemble, you don't need directions. Like their other models, the fit and finish is respectable, especially considering the cost. No, it’s not a Bird (Segway), etc., scooter, but it’s WAY less expensive and an all-around Great scooter! Totally worth the price.

SO FUN!! Adult Ridden & Approved
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would be 5 stars, BUT, we ordered two of the exact same scooter right? Yet we received, what appear to be 1 new and 1 old version of this after they made updates. I'll attach pics later to show you, but whatever we aren't that picky and the cons are minimal. Anyway, bought these after my husband and I rode something similar on vacation and we loved them. I 100% do not recommend these for younger kids as 1) it's about perfect size for me at 5'1 and 2) they are stupid fast for what it is. I can get either version up to the 18mph, but my husband can't as he's 260lbs and it'll only get up to 12mph. With that said, YES, it is absolutely possible to ride this if you're heavier. No other issues than it just doesn't go as fast. I absolutely love these things and highly recommend them, but will be transparent with the cons that may or may not be cons to you. - The obvious issue of the two different versions when received. - States there should be both drum and disc brakes, but one scooter had all drum and one had all disc. Not a big deal really, but poor assembly or misleading info. - THE STUPID HUBCAP THING ON THE ONE. One scooter has hubcaps instead of spokes and there's no way to air up the one tire because of it. Basically....just break that thing off if you get it and go on your way. - Pretty crappy design for the air pump itself, but hey at least it comes with one I suppose. - The bluetooth option is a good idea in theory, but the speaker is underneath and you can't hear anything really when you're actually riding. Maybe I'm just going deaf already at 35. - The rear tail light is always on when you turn it on, which is the good part, but it's not the case on both scooters. The one will only turn on once you have the light on. - Very little user guide information. Not even on Hover's site. Some additional info on how to order a replacement tire, how to actually replace a tire, or how much air should be in them, etc, would be helpful. So again those things may be big cons to you, but they aren't to us. And some of the cons may only be because we received one older version. I don't know for sure. If you're on the fence, DON'T BE! Just make the purchase. They are super fun for adults and teens and you honestly can't frown riding them because of how ridiculous you look lol.

Great first time scooter
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before I decided on this scooter I could barely find any videos on it. Most of the reviews came from Best Buy customers, who for the most part had positive things to say about this product. I've had the scooter for about a month. I don't travel long distances. I usually ride the bike 4-5 days a week *depending on the weather* to the metro north around my way to grand central station, then ride about 20 blocks to my job. Its Pretty convenient being that I live in Nyc. I feel safe riding around in it, it goes pretty fast and the ride is pretty smooth, I'm able to fold the handle down which makes it easy to take up and down flights of stairs. And it doesn't take up too much space in my apartment. The only issues I have with this product is that after 2 weeks it didn't go as fast as it did and I wasn't able to ride up certain hills with ease anymore. This probably has to do with the tires not being filled up weekly. Also it isn't water proof so I cant ride it when it rains.

A Smooth & Durable Beast of a Machine
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.• This is an awesome and fast scooter. • It offers great acceleration and speed. You most definitely want to wear a helmet as it goes 17mph • It is a beast with a large platform and it’s taller than others which is great for average to tall people. Plus, the weight capacity is much greater than I have seen in the past with 264 max weight. • I like the big air tires as it makes for a smoother ride and will go over bumps with ease. That is a big deal. • It came out of the box with the battery 1/2 charged. So, we could try it out immediately. • It was so easy to set up and charge. • The battery life is super long. • It might just be the cold weather, but the brake is hard to pull. • You can fold it up for storage or taking it anywhere. • Cool Features – o It has a built-in Bluetooth speaker with great sound that was easy to pair with my phone. o It has cruise control. WOW! o It lights up on the platform and below for a cool effect and for safety. o There is also a headlight for riding at dusk. Another great safety feature. • Of all the scooters I have tried, this is by far my favorite because of the incredibly smooth ride, speed, battery life, BT speaker, and safety features.

Changes in Generation II version of this Scooter
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm writing this review because, as of this writing, no website yet - including Hover's own website - is describing the Generation II version of this scooter. Not even the pictures are correct. (See my pictures for the changes.) For perspective, last year I bought the First Generation version of this scooter. The batteries in mine degraded after a year of use. And so I used my Geek Squad Protection Replacement Warranty to buy a replacement scooter. I thought that I was getting the same scooter, since the SKU is the same as the old. But no. If TL;DR, the differences are that this scooter has only a 350 W motor. The motor is now in the front hub. The old rear disc brake is now a rear drum brake. The Regenerative braking algorithm has changed. For the worse, IMO. And a few other minor things. Okay, the first major difference is that the motor used to be a 450 W motor, but is now only 350 W. (The updated Operation Manual has it wrong, saying 450 W. But the motor says 350 on it. See my photo.) I can definitely feel the difference in acceleration. Not as quick. I presume that it will be slower going up hill too. However, it seems just as speedy as my previous scooter. (21 mph for me. 165 lbs.) At least on a level grade. Again, I expect it will be slower going up hill, since I now have less power for hills. Also the motor is now in the front wheel. Normally not a problem. But if you're going up hill, your weight distribution changes, putting more weight on the rear wheel. And so if it's a bumpy uphill road, the front tire skips because there's not much weight on it. (The only problem with the old rear wheel drive was that the scooter had a tendency to "wheelie" during start - which gives you some idea of how powerful that old 450 W motor was. I dealt with that tendency by always putting my leading foot at the front of the deck before starting.) The rear brake used to be a disc brake that was problematic because the pads dragged and made noise because the disc was warped. The rear drum brake is perfectly quiet. It seems to stop just as well as the disc brake - BUT, since the Regenerative braking algorithm changed on this scooter, it's not an apples to apples comparison anymore. Which brings me to Regenerative braking: On the old scooter, when you relaxed the throttle, you could feel a little bit of deceleration. A smooth, defensive driver (like me) could save wear and tear on the brake by letting this regenerative braking slow me down. It also recharged the battery while I was coasting. Now it feels like there is no regenerative braking when you relax the throttle. The scooter coasts. However, the moment you touch the brake handle, some BIG TIME Regenerative braking kicks in. The braking is so intense that it feels like the scooter might flip over on its nose. Worse, there's no way to modulate the Regenerative braking. It is always hard braking action. If you squeeze more on the brake handle, the rear drum brake engages and you can stop MUCH quicker than the old scooter. Still, I never had a reason to stop quickly and this new Regenerative braking is not smooth. I won't say that I "hate" it. But I do not like it at all. Minor changes: The LED display is brighter. I never had a problem with it in sunny Arizona. At night, it's not so bright that it's blinding. But it doesn't dim when you turn the lights on. Which would have been a nice, easy feature for Hover to incorporate. The brake light doesn't come on instantly when you use the brake. It takes about a half second to "think." Not a big deal, since it's not like being in car traffic, where other drivers need to know immediately when you're braking. But still, I think that the brake light on my previous version came on as soon as I touched the brake. The front hinge bracket looks like it has been changed. Hopefully improved, as reports on the 'net say that the old bracket was problematic and prone to failure. (Although I never had a problem with mine.) I've only had this new unit for a day. And so I don't know know how it will hold up mechanically. (Welds, brackets, etc.) As a hint for owners, I always keep my tires inflated to the max. Less drag, more range per charge. And less wear on the tread. I also recommend buying the 2-year Geek Squad Replacement warranty. Otherwise, I would have been out $400 after only year of use.

Scooter is good until it isn't.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My main problem with this machine was getting them to fix the rear-tire/ inner-tube. Each time the back tire went on flat and I took it back to Best Buy to get it fixed they kept giving me a new scooter. I just needed a new inner-tube. Problem was: I kept needing a new rear inner-tube... front tire never got a flat. I think there was something flawed in the rear rim(s) of the scooters that kept puncturing the inner-tube. I went through 4 of these scooters in less than six months. On top of that, the break on this thing is very dangerous i.e. it doesn't immediately stop when you press the breaks no matter how hard you squeeze. Lastly, it's super-duper heavy. Never owned a fold-up scooter so heavy before... The Hover 1 Alpha Took the Cake. Other than those issues the machine worked fine until it didn't.

Great Scooter, Amazing construction
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.(The Good) Durability: This thing is SOLID, I'm on the top end of the weight limit for this scooter and I don't flinch at all stepping onto it like similar products. It's very sturdy and well built Digital readout: It's super simple to see, the numbers are clear, covers everything you need it to cover from speed to battery level. The lights: Headlight is super bright & It has a cool blue underglow that the kids absolutely love (I think it's pretty neat too) along with the light up "X" on the board itself. The power: It rips pretty good with an average sized person on it and even more when my daredevil 8 year old takes it out. The speaker: It pairs very easily and it's pretty loud, actually. The packaging: It's packed really well with an included charging cord and pump for the tires. (The bad) The charging port: The charging port is very small and it's under the deck of the scooter, making it hard to plug in and even harder to try to get the rubber plug back into it after charging. I know other models of Hover-1 have the charging port at the top of the handlebar neck, which is convenient, but may not work with this model as it has an information center up there. The speaker: Yes, I know it's also on the good, but the speaker sounds drowned out and there's not really any definition to it. I think that could change drastically if it were mounted outside the battery box.

Great Value Scooter for Intermediate Riders
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Under $500 this is a great scooter. The construction is sturdy, the power is ample, and its portable for short distances. I've had a few of these scooters under $500 and the Aplha holds its own. Cheap scooters might have similar specs as far as range and top speed for half the price yet you are sacrificing longevity and reliability. Those scooters randomly die while riding them for no apparent reason. They also tend to overheat after a mile or so of max speed. The Hover-1 Aplha sets itself apart from the pack by staying on and staying strong the entire duration of your trip. I've rode mine 8 miles of flat area around town and still showed a bar of battery remaining. This is good for the family, too. There are two modes: normal and sport. Sport goes 18mph max and normal goes 12mph max. Sport also has more torque. So if you want to go far put it in normal mode; if you want to go fast throw it in sport. The construction is solid. Nothing jiggles or jangles. I do feel like some of them are not put together straight so it feels like you're always turning to keep it straight. Not all I have are off center. Be careful hitting the sides of the rear tire as the brake disc is exposed making is susceptible to accidental damage.

Fun but Repairing Isn't
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This a very fun Scooter while riding. I enjoy my high speeds with bluetooth speaker to listen to music as I coast. It has a couple useful functions as well, lighting is nice. Issues I have are it doesn't last too long likely because of the speed capability, and when you get a flat, like I did in the rear, it is very time consuming changing the inner rube. I couldn't a mechanic. Thats all I can really say.
