I wish that I would have just taken this printer back to the store and bought a Canon. It is not worth the $130 that I paid for it. It prints like one of those cheap $29 printers with a hefty price tag! It is frustrating to use because I have to turn it off and on in order for my iPhone and computers to even detect it half of the time. The printing quality is poor. It is pixelated and not something you would expect from a hundred dollar printer. Don't even waste your time printing photos. I have to increase the contrast, saturation and brightness to print a "ok" image and even at that they are low resolution, grainy or blurry or the wrong color!
In the photo below, the skin tone came out yellow and the overall image was fuzzy. The actual image is a very large, sharp image. It does not appear yellow on any of the computers or other phones, only when it is printed on this printer.

Unlike other reviewers I feel this printer is relatively quiet. It has a much smaller footprint than my previous printer and sits nicely on my desk. I like the black color which matches my laptop. I have used it for several weeks now. Black and white printing and color printing are great. No problem with scanning. I generally do not fax so I cannot speak to that. I have one small complaint which is photo printing. I am getting some faint horizontal lines thru the photos. Since I have not printed many photos yet I am hoping that more usage will correct that problem. But even that is not a deal breaker as I am printing photos mainly for me and my family.

My photosmart premium stopped feeding paper and troubleshooting didn't work. I hadn't researched printers because I wasnt in the market for one and up to this point I had a very good quality printer. Almost too good. To the point where I didn't want to "waste the ink" for the kids school projects. The HP photosmart printed excellent photos but the ink was costly. .4 or 5 cartridges...I soon stopped printing photos...most of my pics were on my cell phone. .who prints those up anyway? So now I'm looking into printers and the reviews are not so great. ..no clear winner this year. HP had some sketchy reviews but one thing caught my attention....their instant ink program. I already came to the conclusion that I didn't need the highest quality prints for my 2 teenagers school projects. I needed decent prints at a good price. This envy 7640 was one of their costlier models $130ish but it had many features and has exceeded my expectations. At first install I thought it was cheaply made but we've been using it for over a month and it's been great. It wirelessly picks up all my devices so I've been printing from my phone and tablet no problem. It's the first time I've had a fax because I never thought we needed one but we've used it a few times already and it great. The paper feeder is another great feature though not a necessity but a pleasure. We've also been able to make copies on both sides of paper no trouble there. I did print out one photo and thought that the quality was just okay compared to my last printer. The best part is that I joined the instant ink program so HP has already sent me 2 replacement ink cartridges. Once they are installed we can print 100 pages a month for 5 bucks! Now that's awesome. I don't get all weird when the kids ask if they can print something for school yay! This has fit the bill as a good quality low cost printer for us. Also let me mention that due to others having some issues with the printer I did purchase the best buy service plan $20 for two years. This enabled me to allow my brother in law to use my printer and fax almost worry free....just sayin. So far 4.5 stars.

We picked up this printer while it was on sale. We just barely got there in time considering a person grabbed the other one as we were getting ours. So happy we did. You can send print items to this printer from any of your devices wirelessly and it was incredibly easy to set everything up. This printer also only requires two ink cartridges which is another nice feature. We would definitely buy it again if for some reason we needed a second printer. It does everything we need it to do, copy, scan, photos and fax.

Great printer, compact size with all the full size features. Easy set up just plug and play. Passwords and pins were very easy to set up and work flawlessly. All functions work with in house and remote machines. Fax, scan, print and copy in full color to almost any device. Print picture mode creates beautiful prints of pictures from your camera or phone! Its very reliable and printer cartridges are readily accessible and easy to replace. A great experience!

We'd previously had HP printers, but decided to purchase an Epson after our last one wore out. After 2 years and some frustration with the Epson, we decided to switch back to HP - and we haven't been disappointed. This is a great little printer that does it all - prints (even double sided), scans, copies, wireless - and it's easy to set up and use. Definitely recommend this printer!

The setup was very easy, especially the wireless connection. This printer is compact and lightweight. It's perfect for anyone needing a small footprint. The print, fax and scan quality is superb. Replacement ink cartridge costs are reasonable in comparison to those of EPSON printers.

I have bought HP printers in the past, no problem. This one however was fine for the first 6 mos. Then it had a mind of its own. It would print when it wanted, printed more then we wanted, or never printed at all. I should have bought a warranty on this piece of junk.

needed to replace an older H/P all in one printer, because the older one wouldn't print with 'air-print'. This new H/P 7640 is perfect. Was easy to install, it found my wi-fi at home almost immediately. No need to download any CDs or anything to get started. And it accepts try-color print cartridges, so i dont need to be buying 3 separate color ink cartridges. Its quieter than my older unit, it takes up less space, the touch screen is much easier to read and use...all in all, a vast improvement. The print quality is just fine, I can load up to 30pp of auto-feed documents, and now i can sit in my lay-z boy chair and print from my iPhone, or my iPad, or my mac pro. It is just what i wanted.

Printer was easy to set up and produced nice copies at a reasonable speed. The scanning feature also worked flawlessly but make sure paper is placed properly on bed if using that feature. Wireless capability was good and connection was established to our network with no problems.

Went to Best Buy in bad need of a printer. I had read about several brands other than HP. I had excellent help from a store employee and decided on this one. I am sure glad I did. This is the best printer I have ever owned period! Smooth operating, quite, fast enough for what I do and so far really easy to operate. After my last HP I was considering another brand but it looks like they have kept me with this product. I have nothing bad to say about the Envy 7640.

I purchased the HP Envy 7640 and am happy with it. This replaced my 7 year old printer, which I was purchasing ink for when I was told about the HP Instaink Program. Pay $5. a month and get 100 pages to print per month. When the ink is low HP automatically send ink before you run out. Wifi is used to connect to the printer and keep tabs on your printing pages and ink levels. No contract, free delivery and the cost for a year being just slightly more than I was going to pay for a black and color for my old printer, well it just made sense. I walked out with a new printer.
This printer has many features that I haven't used. So far I have printed, scanned then sent the scan through email which was quick and easy with the little touch screen that's on the printer, made one 2 sided copy and that was the easiest ever, no flipping the copy over. Connecting to my wifi was simple, not one hitch.
I like the way the black printer looks, a huge upgrade aesthetically In beautiful shiny black. I like that it's packed with features and it is super easy to use. So much easier than the old printer. What I would change is the sound of the printer when printing. It almost sounds like something might be wrong but nothing is wrong at all. Still a little unsettling. It's a slightly louder than I expected from something new but not a deal breaker by any means. It's slower than I expected.I printed out something that was offered by HPand accessed using the printer screen and that printed super fast. Printing from my computer seemed a little slow as well as scan time. Again, not deal breakers for me.
I'm most interested in the picture quality but to my dismay have yet to print a picture.
InstaInk was delivered as described, well before I ran out of the cartridges that came with the printer. Oh and with the 7 free months of the InstaInk program my first year of ink cartridges will cost me just $25.
So far I recommend both the HP Envy and the InstaInk program.

I finally broke down and replaced my two HP 7510 that I have been using for several years. Mainly as it seemed they were going through ink cartridges like mad. Not that I was using them more but they just seemed to go dry prematurely. The size and style of the 7640 is very nice. Function is faster and more quiet. Wireless always a plus, but I had that before the the 7510. The real plus comes with the HP instant ink subscription, calculating the amount of printing I do and the cost of replacing cartridges, and having them sent to you before you actually run out seems like a Godsend. I do wonder about how they put more ink in the cartridges than then ones you buy, what is that about, you mean they don't fill up the cartridges in the store? Oh well that is an HP corporate issue. This printer is the best I can remember buying. I am very happy with it.

My old HP printer was over 6 years old and was still working well. However when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8.1, I could not install the factory drivers and so lost some functionality. I decided it was time to upgrade. The Envy 7640 was on sale and had the features I wanted. It was fairly straight forward to set up although setting up the fax was a little cumbersome - since I'd never set one up before.
The printing is quick, easily allows duplex, and seems to be pretty good with ink. The #62 cartridges are less expensive then the 74/75 I used in the old printer. Scanning is easy and allows multiple options for delivery when the scan is done. I've printed some pictures on printer paper and they come out very nice. It also has a wireless feature - but I haven't used it yet. Overall I am very pleased with the printer.

My wife and I decided to move my den around. We got everything where we wanted it and then realized that our printer's USB cable will not reach our computer. After researching, we found out that they don't make USB cables that long. I then got the idea to look at wireless printers. My wife was leery at first but after looking at them, she liked the idea. While looking at them at Best Buy, an HP rep talked us into getting this one. Glad she did! Setup was a breeze and works with all our computers, iPads and phones. Print quality is really good for both documents and photos. Keep in mind, this is not a professional quality photo printer so don't expect high end printing but for personal use, you can't beat this printer!

Does everything I need for a small office and the Ink Program is outstanding, really does save money. It has a fax, printer, copier, scanner etc. built in, wireless so I can print from anywhere. Prints pictures directly from my phone as well as documents. I have two now, one at the office and one at the house and the kids are able to print reports etc. from their room. The only issue I have with it is at home and it's minor, don't know why, but the screen comes on every now and then at night. I have it in my bedroom so it does wake me up every now and then but I simply put something over it to block out the light. I haven't taken the time to figure out if it's just a setting yet or not. Other than that, love it.
