Great CPU it doesn't even need to be overclocked. But I slightly OC it just because I can. Mine is water cooled but even when on air it ran cold... Great performance as usual Intel.

I'm glad I decided on the 9700k. I was going to go with the i9-9900k but after figuring out my needs (which is just gaming) the 9700k is perfect for what I need it to do. I also have been doing quite a bit of multitasking which has been no issue (I am using higher end parts, though so that obviously plays a role as well). I have had no overheating issues so far as well (2 weeks in) and I keep it running 24/7. Great product and since there is no hyperthreading, it's meant for gamers in my opinion.
My specs:
RAM: 16GB 3200mhz
GPU: RTX 2080 XC Ultra

The 9700k is an 8 core CPU without hyperthreading. The processor performance is excellent and I have no issues keeping it cool using a Corsair 240 mm AIO, which I also purchased through Best Buy.

Upgraded from an i5 6600k and was very happy with how powerful this CPU is in comparison. Everything runs smooth now, even when I have multiple tabs open and a game going.

This CPU overclocks very well. I was able to achieve 5.0GHz with no problems. Overclocking was superior to my old 8700K. Great CPU for single thread gaming.

This was an upgrade from a 8700k build. I have always bought Intel since the last AMD I bought was a mess about 10 years ago. I think AMD has changed a lot since then but I am still reluctant. This is a pretty good CPU for gaming. I didn't think the i9 would really make much of a difference for gaming, so I decided to save some money by getting this one.

I was super lucky that I was able to find an i7 9700k and I’m so glad I did. It’s well worth the upgrade from the i5 and at a better price point than the i9 9900k.

Halfway through 2020, this isn't easy to recommend with the launch of Intel 10th gen Intel AMD Zen 3 later this year. The 9700k is not a bad CPU it's actually one of the best for gaming, but at this current time I would recommend something else. However, If you are on the Z390 platform and and are looking to upgrade your CPU from i3 or i5 to i7, this is a pretty good CPU. If you can afford it and want to stick with Z390, I would recommend the 9900k over this for future proofing reasons. Despite being just behind, if not, on par with a 9900k in gaming benchmarks, the upcoming gaming consoles will have 8 Core/16 thread CPUs. The 9700k does not have hyperthreading and is 8c/8t. Personally, I upgraded from this to a i7 10700k for being basically a cheaper and cooler 9900k giving me room to upgrade from 10th to 11th gen, should I choose to do so within the next 1-2 years. If you are not under those circumstances and are seeking to do more of a full upgrade from something older, I would recommend 10th gen Intel or maybe even AMD (X570/B550 platform) depending on your particular needs and wants.
