I'd been using a Netgear adapter to Miracast. It was quirky and often required a reboot. This Microsoft adapter works seamlessly with either WiDi or Miracast.

It does its job but does not always work. Especially when you use the surface pro at a distance (not connected to the actual cord) and I'm actually just 10-15 feet away from the TV. I've found the cord works better when the surface pro is actually connected to the TV. And I did buy this specific cord so I don't have to be connected and sitting at the TV.
