Customers value the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR Wide-Angle Zoom Lens for its amazing image quality, effective VR, and impressive low light performance due to its constant aperture. However, some customers find its weight, price, and size to be drawbacks.

I was hesitant to buy this lens. It is definitely expensive at $2400, which makes it about twice the price of a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 VC. I already own a 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens from Tamron, and the problem I was running into was that my Nikon D810 didn't recognize the difference between the two Tamron Lenses (It thought they were the same). So the auto-focus fine tuning, and calibration had to be changed any time I switched those lenses. Needless to say for professional work, that was not going to work.
When I started reading reviews for this lens (granted it's only been out for about a month now)... people were giving it a hard time for it's price tag. Saying things like "It's not worth the upgrade from the old one..." and "VR isn't necessary at that focal length..."
Well, let me tell you. I picked up this lens, after having tested 3 of the original 24-70mm lenses without the VR, and it is ABSOLUTELY worth the price difference. The auto-focus system is fast, and accurate. This lens is extraordinarily sharp at all focal lengths and apertures. The VR is EXCELLENT and allows for handheld shots at 1/5th of a second, even at 70mm. That's Crazy!
I very frequently buy and return lenses because I'm picky... Very Picky... but this thing makes me actually say "This thing is spectacular" out loud every time I use it.

Amazing product. With the age of mirrorless cameras and upgraded lenses, this is still a monster of a lens that takes amazing pictures. Great cost and product.

Very versatile wide-normal zoom. I bought this for my D780 and it is great for events, low-light, portraits, landscapes, and street photography. It is large and heavy, but it can stand in for many different lenses. VR makes longer hand held shots possible.

I was going to choose the non VR version of this lens but after purchasing this one I’m glad I got this. It’s the best lens in my bag and works well with my Nikon D850

Love this lens! Have wanted this for quite a while and finally decided to go for it! I have not been disappointed as it takes excellent photos and has quick autofocus. Have used with Nikon D500 and 750. Pictures shown taken with Nikon D750.

Wow! I have wanted this particular lens for some time now but opted for a less expensive alternative the Tamron 24-70 f2.8. The Tamron is an absolutely spectacular lens! As well as being $1k less than the regular priced Nikon. But, when I found this on sale at Best Buy a couple months ago I jumped on the opportunity to own this glass. It’s every bit as good as the reviews you may read. Autofocus is fast and images are clean and tack sharp. I’ve been using the lens on my D850 and D500 bodies. I’m very impressed with the images captured in lower light settings early morning and sunset and just before nightfall. I also have a Nikon Z 50 which I have used this lens with adapter and pleased with the auto focus responsiveness still capturing crisp images. It’s only been about a month and a half since acquiring the lens so I have not gotten to use it as much as I would really like to yet. But, so far the images captured (mostly wildlife) are pretty awesome and I’m not that great of a photographer. I’m still a novice but I’m sure I’ll have this lens for a long time to continue learning and improving!

This is a great "everyday" lens. It is a bit on the heavy side but it is built solid. Sharp focus, amazing clarity, and thoroughly enjoy having the VR option for handheld low-light shots.

I had been using the Nikon 24-120mm f4.
This lens yields tack sharp photos. I've used it on a tripod and off. The VR is excellent, allowing use at least 2-3 stops beyond the standard 1/focal length. Autofocus is very fast. I only use this for landscape, and so don't have much to compare it to.
Highly recommended over the 24-120mm f4, although at nearly 2x the price, it should be!

Before I purchased this lens, I had the 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 which is a kit lens for most FX bodies. I have been using it for about a month now and I have noticed better quality in my shots. This lens almost never leave my camera. It is great for both landscape portrait shots. The price is a lil steep, but if you are serious about your work and want sharp photos, then I would seriously consider purchasing this lens.

Amazing clarity on this lens. Was a little hesitant with some of the mixed reviews, but decided to pull the trigger after it went on sale for $500 off. Solidly built, with fast focus. It brings out a richness in the images that other lenses can't match, and I love the 2.8 across the range.
The switched zoom control and focus is odd, but it wasn't too hard to get used to.

As others have said about this lens, it has quickly become my go-to lens, replacing the kit lens that came with my D7500. With its F2.8 constant aperture, I'm able to capture great photos of my kids in school gyms and other poorly lit settings. It is a little long and heavy, but it's not that bad and the results are well-worth the inconvenience of carrying my dslr.

I have owned both the 24-70 F/2.8G and the new 24-70 F/2.8E lenses having used the new lens over the past several weeks and both are exceptional in their strengths. Which one is better depends on your usage and subject matter. I shoot without a tripod and primarily landscapes and architecture so what I value is stability and image quality throughout the frame along with lower ambient lighting conditions. The new E VR lens better fulfills those requirements though I still appreciate the older model's great mid frame resolution and tank-like structure. Getting the 45.7 meg capability of the D850 demands not only great lens resolution but also a steady platform. The VR on the new lens is its primary attraction for me and provides a lot more keepers than the G with the same camera. One more thing that this does is allowing lower ISO (64) with longer exposures. So, I highly recommend the 24-70 F/2.8E VR for those looking for a broader balance of resolution with the steadiness the VR provides.

This was an update, replacement for older version of this lens. I am a Nikon shooter, who matches lenses to my Nikon cameras. This lens is perfect for my D750/850 cameras. It works well with my D7000/D90 DX models as well. The only draw back for most folks, might be it is heavier than the cameras. But man, it is great through all of the Fstops. Crisp/sharp, and the dynamic colors on my D850/750 is off the charts. even though it is heavy, I love it. I only wish I could find a lens ring so I could mount it to my tripods. This lens has no equal in my view in the 24-70 lens range.

For the FX this is a great walk around lens. It's fast, sharp 2.8-22, wide angle and many other good things. The downside is it's heavy as a large boat anchor, as long as a torpedo and may even get you some nasty looks from the tsa. If you can afford it and don't mind carrying a boat anchor in your camera bag then this lens may work for you.

I bought this lens after trying the non-VR version. I wasn't happy at all with the non-VR, and for the price, I thought I should love it. So, I returned the one, and saved up for the difference. I have the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VRII and absolutely love it. The 24-70 is like the little brother to that lens, and I love it just as much. Is it expensive? yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely! If you can work it in your budget, you'll be thrilled to have the Nikon 24-70 2.8 VR on your camera. It's beautiful and and takes crisp, sharp pictures.

Great Lens but Heavy

Every review I read about this lens stated that it was great but heavy. Well, all of those reviews were correct! I took five photographs without the VR, and one of those was not perfect (I blame the photographer). With the VR set to normal, all photographs I have taken since then have been excellent!
I really like this lens, but I will probably not use it as often as prime lenses on hikes.
