The Oculus Quest all in one headset is awesome. It offers an immersive virtual reality experience in a headset that's simple to set up, intuitive to use, and doesn't require a computer. I've been having a ton of fun with it, and am continually impressed how the graphics, audio, and hardware work together to really make me feel like I'm in the game. I typically don't pay too much attention to packaging, but even unboxing the Quest was an enjoyable experience. Setup was easy and straightforward. I downloaded the Oculus app to my phone (iOS and Android options available) and it walked me through the initial steps, like connecting to my home Wi-Fi network and creating an Oculus account. Next, I was ready to put the headset on, and the on-screen fit and focus app helped me get it, well, fit and focused. Finally, the on-screen guide showed me the room I was in and helped me draw out an obstacle-free area for safe play. In less than ten minutes, I was in the starter tutorial, picking up virtual objects, tossing virtual paper airplanes, and flying virtual a blimp. I found the headset to be fairly comfortable, but I generally need to take it off for at least a short break after 45-50 minutes or so. It’s not exactly heavy, but I do notice its weight on my face and neck. The controllers are super intuitive to use. There are buttons and directional sticks like traditional game consoles, but there’s also a ring that tracks what your fingers are doing, and the headset is constantly tracking where the handheld controllers are in space. The VR experience is really amazing. It’s hard to even describe, other than to say that it’s immersive, and I really do feel like I’m transported somewhere else with every new app I try. The Quest comes with a few apps installed, and there’s an app store where you can download new ones at various price points, including some free options. Some are very realistic, others are more fictional or even cartoon like, but there are fun and enjoyable options in a wide variety of categories… action, exploration, puzzles and games, etc. I really like the fact that instead of being something that connects to a computer, the Quest is a standalone console. No wires, no need to worry that my PC isn’t powerful enough to run the latest games, etc. I feel like I can take this anywhere with an Internet connection and a few feet of free space and have a blast with it. I’m definitely happy with the Oculus Quest, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get into VR gaming without needing a computer.

Amazing VR experience with a bright future

Oculus takes the VR experience on the go with the all-in-one Quest headset. With a compact, no-frills setup and simple start-up instructions and tutorials, the Quest provides an easy entry into the VR world for a mainstream audience. While the Quest library is somewhat bare at launch, the newest Oculus offering has all the makings to become a go-to VR device moving forward. Getting started was a breeze, as the Oculus Quest comes with everything you need to get up and running - no PC is needed, and the only external requirement was setting up the device with the assistance of the Oculus app on a mobile device. After a short charge and powering on the device, adjusting the headstraps allowed the headset to rest comfortably on the head. The device is not light, but I didn't find it to be noticeably detrimental to the experience. And unlike some other headsets, the viewing window was all-encompassing. It covered up all possible external disturbances, so well to the point where I purposely left a little opening below my nose at times to remind me that the experience WAS virtual. The Quest sacrificed some technological prowess and access to the Rift library in order to provide a more mobile experience. For users who do not want to be tethered to their home PC, this is a great option. I moved my setup to the basement entertainment room where I won't have to disturb anyone in the real world. In the VR setup, you virtually mark off the actual room in order to use the device while moving around or while sitting or standing in place. I found myself utilizing the stationary setup due to the option of comfort in my gaming chair. Oculus doesn't make this task feel cumbersome, however, as setting up the room feels less like a job and more like a tutorial of the VR controls. The battery-powered controllers are very light, well-balanced, and intuitive. The joysticks and buttons placement are sensible to the motions in the virtual landscape. Using the controllers becomes second nature, with the movements very accurate and the button-action equally responsive during testing. It would have been nice to have rechargeable controllers similar to the headset, but no other complaints here. The Quest in-game setup lets you create a new Oculus account or connect to your existing one, but the device will not be able to play any Rift or Rift S games or apps. As a result, the Quest library of options feels limited at launch. The games, demos, and video applications currently available are interesting and intuitive initial options, and I have no doubt that future offerings will make for a robust library of experiences. The initial experience with the Oculus Quest is mostly positive. The VR experience is excellent, the headset is non-abrasive and the controllers are light and intuitive. With the expectation of a broad library of games and apps to come, the device is an awesome entry point for casual gamers and those new to VR. With the Quest, Oculus makes mainstream VR a reality. Full disclosure, I received this product for my honest, unbiased review.

Lots of fun and a great product. If you are simply going to go to the Oculus Quest store and by new games, set up will be easy. However, it was very difficult to set up to play any games you already have on your PC or on Steam that you may have purchased in the past for a wired VR. Make sure you watch tons of videos and make sure you are up for the challenge. Obviously, this challenge is going to vary depending on how tech savvy you are. We just found it difficult and I think Oculus wants it that way so you buy all new games and install onto the QUest.

This is a very good headset if you don't want to be bogged down by cables and set up time. The rendering quality of the games are absolutely amazing for mobile VR. If you're looking into getting a VR headset I recommend this one. The only issue I have with it at the moment is the amount of content available right now. But that will all be fixed in a matter of time
