3 months of ownership and I'm done

After 3 months of ownership I really tried to like this camera, the live view feature and history never work. 9 out of 10 times I get a "lost connection" message and you can't view anything. But guess what, they still charge you credits even though you're not viewing anything. Owl cam gives you 60 credits per month. Every time you view 1 minute of video, a credit is used. But every time you click a video and you get a "lost connection" message, a credit is still used up. PLEASE STAY AWAY from owl cam!! The thought, design and idea of this product is phenomenal, but it does not work and will leave you both let down and incredibly frustrated.

This thing is absolutely amazing! Comes with everything you need to install and hide the cable 100%. I love that connects directly to OBD of your car. It’s definitely worth every penny!!! Videos are instantly available on your phone app and it has a 911 emergency system in case you get into an accident. It looks and it feels super well made. So far one of the best tech products I’ve ever purchased. The first year subscription is included ! Amazing !!!!

The quality is outstanding and I couldn’t be happier with it, has even paid for itself through video I have gotten! The app is a little slow or touchy! There is room to improve and I think they will and they were easy to reach and ask questions! Overall a 5 stars on the camera! Would recommend to everyone that has ever seen something while driving and wished they had one!! No wires showing and very neat and tidy! Really nice looking and like I said the quality of video is great!

I originally bought this in Sept last year for the extra features like the 911 call and live viewing which were not available on other dashcams. Since you got a years free 4G LTE service and it cost $10 a month after that it seemed manageable. Bearing in mind this is a $300 item. However....the company that owns Owlcam has closed and the features advertised are no longer available unless you pay $20 a month, also that free year of service is cancelled!! Just not worth it anymore and I wish I had purchased another item.

I was looking for a dash cam that I could download the video to my phone and be able to view the camera as well on my phone, this camera does both of those. The set up and install of the camera was also easy. The one thing that I did not expect was the tech support, 24/7 support, when I had to use them, my issue was fixed really quick. Only bad thing was, which is minor was the direct download, you have to be in the car for it to work

The Owlcam - 4G LTE Smart Dash Cam is the second dashcam that I’ve owned. The first one I tried was okay, but the video quality was not very good. The Owlcam does not have that issue. Unpacking it and set-up was simple. This is the first device I’ve owned that utilizes my car’s OBDII connection (the old printer looking connection that is under the dashboard typically very near the steering wheel). It comes with a good length of wire to connect to the camera, as well as varying length of ‘arm’ on the mounting bracket to position the camera where it will be visible but the least obtrusive for drivers. It also comes with plastic wraps for spooling extra wire, and a soft-plastic pronged tool to push the wire into the gaps in your car without causing any damage. Overall the inclusions and accessories for physical installation are very thoughtful. The actual camera set-up is easy as well. Once connected to power the Owlcam displays a QR code. Scan this with your phone (I have a galaxy S9) and it takes you straight to the app. Once the app is installed scan it again and it will pair with your phone. From there you can access live video (for a fee if it’s over LTE) and see a display of both the front and interior of the car. Don’t want to watch yourself while driving? Simply ‘flick down’ on the screen (it’s split horizontally between the front and interior display) and the interior display only shows the forward display. The picture is very sharp for such a small display. The camera records constantly while driving, whenever it detects motion via the camera (interior or exterior) while parked, and if it detects a ‘bump’ that could possibly cause damage while parked. This video is accessible anytime for free over wi-fi, or for ‘credits’ over LTE. You can buy more credits from Owlcam if you’re running low (one credit=one minute, at the time of this writing 60 credits are $4.99). The video quality is much sharper over wi-fi than LTE. You and the Owlcam need to be near each other for the wi-fi to work. The couple of times I tried small snippets over the LTE service it appeared very pixelated. You can upload video via LTE directly from the history in the app—just review the video and pick a starting point. You can choose a ‘quick clip’, 1-minute or 5-minute segments. After uploading you can use a video editor on your phone or computer and upload it to the web from there (there’s an interesting community on youtube already). The camera will also record and save video on voice command --even if the car is off-- which is cool and can be useful in very specific instances (traffic stops by police or threats from other drivers while stopped) but stops automatically after a few seconds unless you swipe the camera for it to continue. It can also be a cool way to automatically save a neat video while you’re driving. You can review the saved clips via the app. There are a few things I’m not crazy about with this. For one, there’s no speed and location stamp on the video as there is with other dashcams. If you’re ever pulled over for speeding a video with these stamps can help when trying to prove your innocence. Also, the LTE signal seems to have a difficult time with the high-quality video. The constant green light is very bright and almost draws attention to the vehicle. The website uses this quality as a ‘warning’ to would-be thieves that your car is protected, but to me it seems like an ad that I have a dash-cam… The phone app (only way to control it) wasn’t super-intuitive, but it’s not too bad. It took me some playing around to figure out how to stop the constant alerts. The cam will send you an alert (when the car is not moving) whenever it detects motion (turns out in a super-market parking lot this is quite often) as well as any ‘bumps’, which in an SUV is anytime the door is opened, or the back glass of the SUV was raised to put something inside. I received a LOT of alerts in the first couple of days until I adjusted the settings in the app. It also took a little work to search the history for specific video, which is probably the main reason you’d want to adjust the ‘over-write’ times in the app. The history goes back a long way (several days in my case) even if you drive quite a bit, and searching the history via swiping on your phone is a pain. There may be an easier way to search, but I haven’t figured it out yet. I would like to see more customization options added such as being able to turn off the led indicators on the camera itself, a wi-fi only setting, more display customization, searchable video, etc. A removable mini-sd slot would also be great, rather than having to rely on the camera's internal memory at all times for recorded video. The service is free for the first year, but if you wish to continue receiving alerts it’s combined with the LTE service for $99 a year. One cool feature when you have this service is the camera will also tell you where your car is via GPS. The camera itself will still work otherwise, you just won’t get the motion alerts, and you can only retrieve video over wi-fi which, frankly, is still a bargain and still useful. In the ever-growing world of dashcams the Owlcam is a stand-out, even if there are still a few minor quirks to be worked out yet.

I wish there was more detail in the advertising. It is not always available. Sometimes it does not have service. It only comes with 60 credits which equals minutes then you have to purchase additional minutes. Only had it a couple of weeks and I like the overall idea of it. Jut need further educating of the device.

This company is moving towards commercial use. I would wait to purchase this camera until they come out with an announcement about their support for the current cameras. So far, the new business executives have left current camera owners in the dark and are not offering any customer service assistance. The camera is amazing, but Owlcam might be about to dump their non commercial cameras. It isnt worth the $$$$$ to find out. They got rid of the CEO and most of the employees in November. Just be warned, wait until the new owners put out an update for the current product. This camera WILL NOT WORK without their app.

Out this in because I’m sharing my car with my newly licensed teen aged daughter. It’s for her protection as often when teens get in accidents adults try to bully them into admitting fault. Camera will help in determining the truth. Also it’s good check and balance for her activity

I’ve had this dashcam for nearly 6 months now. The new owners of this business have turned it into a subscription service since May 2020 which is, in my opinion, it’s only downfall. Otherwise, it’s a great device and has a great cam, even at night.

This dash cam in my opinion is one of the better ones out. I recently got a new car and people just can’t park right or like throwing there doors open without any car for the car next too them. That’s where owl cam comes in, it’ll start recording and send alerts too your phone anytime someone hits your car or breaks into it. Only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because it doesn’t sense motion like if someone were too walk in front of the camera therefore it won’t record anything if someone decides too walk up to your car and key it. For the money it cost you would think it would record any time motion is detected.

The idea was great. I was drawn by the LTE connectivity and features. With the purchase, 1 year of LTE service was included. After the year, the service was to be about $100 a year. I found this very reasonable. The camera worked great and as promised at first. However, the startup that created this went bankrupt half-way through my first year of service. The company that acquired them ended my service and required signup for their service at I believe $30 per month. I did not expect this could happen with a product purchased from Best Buy. Kickstarter and Indiegogo, yes. Best Buy, no. Needless to say, beware of subscription based products purchased from anyone. If the company goes under, you'll be be left with a paper weight our out a lot more money than you planned.

Love the Owlcam! It's like having 24/7 live/real-time safety and surveillance protection for your vehicle. You can view you vehicle on your phone anytime you like, and the is no limits. The is a low cost monthly fee. It uses 4G LTE technology. You will never have to worry about batteries, because it have a power cable that connects directly to your vehicles (OBD) On-board diagnostics port. It constantly monitors any movements and sends alerts immediately to your phone.

At first I was afraid to purchase it with the price bing what it was but my last dash cam died right as I needed it. It was a much cheaper brand so I decided to go with this one. I do not regret the decision I made. I have been extremely happy with my owl cam and love the ability to pull up video's with out having a memory card to take out. Set up is a breeze only takes about 5 minutes. Best decision/purchase I have made.

    Owl Cam is BACK!!!!

I purchased this Dash Cam over 8 months ago, and have loved it ever since. First, the install was much easier than previous dash cameras I have used. I don't like wires showing, so in the past I have spliced into the fuse box. This wasn't an issue here, as it plugs straight into the OBD port on your vehicle. When I am out of town, love being able to check into my vehicle to see that it is safe. The App makes it easy to check inside, outside, and history. I feel comfortable knowing that even if someone were to break into my vehicle and steal the camera thinking there would be no picture of them, I can still access that footage from the cloud. I know of no other dash camera that has this functionality. Let's talk about the elephant in the room - Yes, for a while I was frustrated about the company that started Owl Cam seemingly disappeared over night. Unlike others, I didn't have any issues with connectivity during this time, and the functionality and features of my Owl Cam remained through this time. NOW - Owl Cam is BACK!!! Owl Cam was acquired by a company by the name of CallPass LLC, which has promised its commitment to support and grow the product and phone App. While the plan pricing has increased (it was $99 for 4G LTE Connectivity for the year previously, now $19.95 per month or $214.95 for the year), I am happy to pay that, as the value and peace of mind I get from camera history being stored in the cloud is worth it.
