    Exceptionally Horrible!

Unfortunately the Anafi Drone was Exceptionally Horrible due to the single fact of the numerous app software updates required to make it function properly. There for when I went on my back packing summer vacation and purchased this drone for its advertised compact design (big plus) for traveling but was in remote wilderness areas with little WiFi and not able to due the updates the drone lost its manual controls, camera connectivity and then after following Parrots help line and resetting the drone it wouldn’t even accepted its own WiFi password to connect to the drone. I’m very upset because I took time off of work and booked a very expensive vacation with the hopes of documenting it with a drone. I did a lot of research on which drone to go with and I chose this one due to its camera quality and compatibility unfortunately the to numerous required software updates rendered the drone useless in the wilderness away from WiFi. I wish I could be compensated for my trip that I booked around making a drone documentary that wasn’t able to be accomplished due to this horrible drone.

    Great little Drone

This was my first drone purchase and I'm very happy with my decision. I wanted a portable drone for travel that took great pictures and 4K video and this thing delivers just that. Also relatively quiet as I've heard other drones that are much louder. Lightweight, which helps with battery life, as you can expect up to 25 minutes flight time. This drone is more unassuming than some of the other "monstrosities" out there, which I think helps it fly a bit "under the radar" in terms of annoying people who might not be as enthusiastic about drones as you are. Another implementation feature I love about this drone is the fact that both the controller and drone battery can be charged using USB-C cables that most of us use to charge our phones these days. Consequently, you don't need to lug any proprietary chargers with you just your phone charger, power bank, or USB-C car charger will suffice for providing power to your components. One USB-C cable is included to connect the phone/device running the FreeFlight 6 app to the controller. In regard to piloting, the Anafi has no avoidance sensors other than a bottom facing one, but as a first-time flyer, I don't consider this drone hard to pilot. I simply don't fly it close to potential hazards. Simple common sense goes a long way in preventing drone crashes. Piloting in "film" mode slows down the drone and its controls quite noticeably. I'd advise flying in this mode when close to a lot of obstructions. On the other hand, "Sport" mode makes the drone much more nimble and agile. I'd advise flying in this mode only if you have lots of open space or are a more experienced pilot. The drone and controller are both GPS-aware, and the drone will come back to the location it took off from (RTH) if disconnected from the controller. The app allows you to set the altitude that the drone will use for RTH purposes so that you don't run the risk of the drone flying itself into a tree or building as it makes its way back to the "home" position. Simply scout the area and make sure to configure the drone to fly higher than any potential obstruction in the area as it "returns home". The hardware is just one part of the equation when considering which drone to buy, and I've also been very impressed with the FreeFlight 6 software that is at the heart of the Anafi. Tons of great automated video and photo features to play with. And while it's true that the "Follow Me" and "Flight Plan" features are in-app purchase, I was fortunate enough to get them both for .99 apiece. A recent update introduced the ability to take fully-automated 360 panoramic photos. The fact that the camera tilts a full 180 degrees up and down allows for some amazing 360 degree shots. Great way to capture a scene or a landscape in its entirety. (Sky and ground included!). Imagine the immersive vacation shots you could get with this feature. I tend to do a 360 capture whenever I fly at a new spot for the first time. The only real gripes I have with this drone is that when accessing the SD card, it requires removing the battery and freeing the card from a little metal gate. Would have been nice to simply be able to pop it out like what is typical of most micro SD card enclosures. Also the remote will not hold larger phones without removing it from the case. (If you have a Note 9, you will have to take it out of the case for the phone to fit.) It would have also been nice for them to include a carrying case for the controller, but one can be had for cheap online. In summary, I think this is one of the best value drones that you can buy as it appears to be much cheaper than other drones with similar functionality. The drone itself might look a bit "toyish", but don't be fooled: it's an unassuming little drone with lots of muscle. And it seems to get beefier every firmware update. Don't believe me, check out some of the Anafi drone footage on YouTube. Happy Flying!

Let me start by saying that the reason I fly drones is to have the unique ability to take aerial stills and videos... Having been in the drone game since 2013 I have flown many drones. My first camera drone was the Yuneec Q500 which had a terrible 1060, 12mp camera....not satisfied I purchased the 3RD Solo with a gimbal for a GoPro 4 Black...much better but still had issues. From there I took a leap of faith and purchased a DJI Phantom 4 Pro...wow, great camera for 4K video and 20mp stills...Last month I purchased the Parrot Anafi....and I love it....and here is why. It is small and extreamly easy to pack. It is crasy quiet. It takes 20 mp stills in both JEPG and Raw(DNG) and the 4K video. The video it captures is amazing. I can get the Anafi up in the air FAST...and it is stupid easy to fly with the included controller. The app is simple and straight forward with some of the best pre-programed cinamatic moves.....Cameraman, boomerang, to name a few...and yesterday Parrot released to more features for 99 cents each...Follow me and Way Points.... So now I have two drones ...the P4Pro and the Anafi. I love flying the Anafi....

I will start out by saying that this is the only drone I have ever owned. Any comparison to other features other competition may have is based off on spec sheets but not personal experiences. Out of the box, this drone looks sleek and well built. Very compatible and very quick to set up. You literally unfold the four arms, remove the lens cap, power on then you are ready to go. After powering on the unit, the camera does a few movements and syncs up to your mobile device in less than 15 secs and the drone is ready to launch. A nice added feature is the capability to flying the drone with just the included controller by itself, however flying the unit out of site would not be recommended as without your smart phone, it wouldn't be as easy to identify where the drone is at. The drone is compact so it is easy to lose sight of. The battery life seems to be as advertised. During all of my flights, I had at least a solid 25 mins of flight time. Comparing to other drones that I have seen, this is pretty good flight time. Which also happens to be roughly the amount of video time that can be recorded with the provide 16 GB memory card. Mobile app is just OK. It has some added pre-defined functions and flight patterns, however I find them hit or miss as far as consistency. For example, one of the flight options is "Camera Man" in which the camera is supposed to stay focused on an object you select regardless of where you control your drone. During my flights, I found it was easy for the camera to lose the object it was focusing on. Another issue I have with the app is the additional Pay For functionality. Follow me and Flight plan are available for purchase within the app. Given the price tag of this unit, one would assume that these functions would be included, however each function is available for separate purchase (up to an additional $19.99 each), fortunately there is a special going on until Oct 6th to purchase them at $0.99 each. Not much, but they sure nickel and dime you for that. For $0.99 each, that is well worth it, however, once again, not without flaws. The following me function, which is supposed to track a selected object or person, tends to lose track, resulting in a big disappointment, especially if you are tracking a person performing an activity and the drone stops tracking. The concept is great, just not all there yet. Similarly, the flight plan function allows you to draw out on a map a flight pattern for the drone. Click the play button and watch it follow your mapped out route. Be aware that this should only be done in an open area as you cannot define the height. So if you are thinking your pattern will fly over trees because you start out at 200 ft. high, you would be wrong your drone will crash. This leads me to my next flaw to this drone. It DOES NOT have obstacle avoidance. Other drones at this price range may include this functionality, which is very disappointing that Parrot decided not to include these sensors. The ability to fly these units at a pretty good distance becomes very risky when your drone becomes out of site as it will hit whatever is in its way. The drone has a home button that will send the drone back to the flight starting point (or close to). This is the same function that the drone will automatically kick in to when the battery is low. During my experience, the drone fell a good 50 yards short of where I was located. Not sure if it was just due to the battery getting too low too quick with a good amount of distance left or just in accurate GPS reading. If it was due to battery, then it did not do a good job calculating when to trigger the auto home. If due to GPS, then it was a fair distance off mark. I would also caution using the home button in a non-open space, as similar to the Flight Plan, you do not define the height of the flight pattern and no obstacle avoidance. Therefore you are at risk of crashing. In the end, I found this drone to be fun, unfortunately for me, I happened to have a crash on my third outing hitting a tree branch. So yes, the obstacle avoidance would have been really helpful there. And at this cost, that was a big disappointment. My crash happened to be only about 5 ft. off the ground, so no major damage, however, even landing in the grass caused a little crack in one of the arms. So maybe not as durable as it looks, but maybe just bad luck on how it hit the ground.

This is the first non-toy drone I've ever messed with and there's much I like about it, but plenty I'm still clueless about. For the most part though, I'm quite happy with this little guy. Video looks great straight out of the camera and the basic controls are simple enough to figure out that my 5 year-old was able to fly it and not crash into things. Take-off and landing are literally done just by pressing a button. Couldn't be easier. But it has to be noted that apparently there are other drones that have some type of built-in object avoidance. This one does not. At all. It comes with extra propeller blades, which is nice, but you're just going to have to be careful where and how you fly this thing. To be fair though, I've had a few run-ins with tree limbs and a picnic table and it came away unscathed and all-systems-go after a quick restart. I can deal with that, but there are a few other things that are a little annoying and keep it from getting 5 stars. Namely, there's no manual included. Maybe there's one on the phone app? I can't find it. I get the desire to save paper, but... it really ought to come with a manual. I had to go online just to figure out where the microSD card was! (It's under the pop-out battery) I still have absolutely no idea how to record in HDR. They'd like you to do everything via the phone app - and be aware there are a few in-app purchases like the "follow me" camera option - but the app itself can be a little confusing. Just to get the copter in the air for the first time requires both the controller and copter being charged to 100% and numerous software updates. It takes awhile. And then I still couldn't get the app to connect to the drone itself. I'm sure these software bugs will be ironed out, but you know... just one of those things that adds up on the list of annoyances. Another one is that everything charges via USB-C. They include a cable, thankfully, but only one. So if you plan on charging the controller AND the copter at the same time you're going to need another cable. They include a nice little case. Great! But it's just for the copter, not the controller. Maybe next time just make a bigger case that fits both? Lastly, I wish the controller held my phone better. It's not an obscure phone and I'm not using a thick case, but for the life of me I can't get the phone to stay put in the controller without removing the case first. At the end of the day though, what really matters is the camera. Even if annoyed by the small things, you'll figure out a way to get the shot you want with this thing and it's going to look awesome. I look forward to figuring out how to better use it.
