    Good receiver for the money

I decided to buy an open box for the first time, thinking it would be a good buy. I believed that open box was something that was returned after the original purchaser got it home and decided he/she didn't want it, not something that was used and then returned. Also open box items are to have everything included. The owners manual and the FM antenna were missing and the unit had been used, how long I can't tell. I selected Sony so it would match up with the Sony 4K HD TV and the Sony Blu-Ray DVD player. When the DVD player is turned on, the receiver recognizes it and switches to it, but when it is turned off it doesn't return to the TV cable that it was on prior. When the DVD player was connected directly to the TV and was turned on, it switched to the DVD player and when it was turned off it returned to the TV cable. Now I have to use the remote to change back to the TV cable. Something I can live and I can view the manual online, but I wonder if I will be able to find the FM antenna, as it appears as only a Sony plugin.

    Value for the Money

Using it in my Home Theater with Epson 2045 and Harmon Kardon (HKTS16) 7.1 speakers. This receiver does justice for the money and serves all of my requirements. Night mode is a plus for boosting the dialogue volume / clarity and at low volume levels. Though it doesn't come with an RF remote, the mobile app will suffice to take care of the basic functions. The on screen quick setup with a auto-calibration mic, plus ping test features for checking the connections are awesome!

    Good basic receiver

Bought this receiver believing it had FM HD capability, as listed in the Best Buy online specs, which turns out not to be true. Had intended to listen to a local FM HD station, the only classical station in the area. Very disappointing! Thought about returning it, but after discovering that I could listen to hundreds of classical stations using a phone FM station app and Bluetooth, decided to keep it, a very delightful outcome. Overall, a very good receiver.

    Returned item

Bought this because of the features it had at a good price and I own a Sony TV I am pleased with.. Many in this range either do not have ARC or are not HDCP2.2 compliant, or have the cheaper spring speaker connections, etc.... Unfortunately, the left side of the display panel and certain items on the menu did not work. It sounded good, but would suddenly change the HDMI input on it's own. Returned it and decided to add a bit more money and got the Denon s720. I am pleased with my purchase of the Denon and will review it in the appropriate place..It I would not hesitate to give Sony another try in the future.

sound and looks are good, hookup is a #########

the unit looks good and once you finally get it setup sounds good. The hookup process was a large pain in the ###. The receiver will work with anything from a simple 2 speaker setup to a 7.1 system, but trys to force you to use at least 5.1 system for the easy setup. Using it with a new 60 LG 4K TV. The wiring part was pretty simple, the setting up to get the receiver and TV on the same page WAS NOT. The instruction booklet never seem to match up with actual process never did get the receiver to show that it was hooked to both A & B speakers pairs. Since both the TV and Receiver have an HDMI ARC connection I used that. For speakers using 2 Polk T50 floor speakers and 2 Polk T15 high wall speakers (ie a 2-2-0 system). The easy setup program on the receiver has to be viewed on the TV screen and the sound calibration program would never "hear" sound from the high speakers although i could hear sound from them. You DO have to setup both the receiver and the TV so that all the sound options match It took a number of trys to finally get everything matched up. Not sure if the issues were all being caused by the receiver setup or if the TV setup was adding to the issues

    LOOKOUT!

    Posted .

Hey Look? $199 for a 7.2 channel Surround sound receiver? And it's a Sony? Look at the power ratings too! Add to that, this AV has Dolby True & DTS-HDMA decoding. What more could anyone ask for? How can anybody complain about this Sony unit? Guarantee this unit will sound just as good as any other unit when you get it home. A 7.2 AV used to cost a wad of cash. Now, with the changing market? Deals like this arise. If I were starting a Home Theater? I'd jump on this buy ASAP! Look at this? It's got true stereo subwoofer outs. That's unheard of at this price. I'll close with this: In our homes, 7.2 Dolby True Digital or DTS-HDMA decoding purely rocks! All you'll need is decent speakers. Because this Sony's got POWER! LOOKOUT!

NOTE Unit will not support PHONO Turntables

Decent unit but note it will not support turntables without a built in preamp. I ordered after doing an on line chat with a professional and was specific in needing a unit that would support my older components. Was told this unit would. Not correct. Otherwise unit accepted my older CD and DVD player,

    Poor performance

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had high expectations for this product given the brand, specs and price point of this receiver. I have been highly dissastified with it's performance. When it was functioning as it should, it was decent quality, but unfortunately that wasn't often enough. During the first couple months it would turn off unexpectedly while watching a program or listening to a record. Which is extremely inconvenient when hosting and entertaining. Then after a little while longer the HDMI board just went down and I couldn't even connect to the TV anymore. So I sent it in for repair. Apparently there is only one tech shop for Sony and it's on the east coast. Since I live on the west coast, it took a week to get there and a week to get back plus repair time. This was the only option. So on a Saturday I had to box it up and send it out. When I received the item back, despite the sheet taped to the hardware which said everything had been replaced, it stopped functioning again in the same exact way mere weeks later. When I called back Sony was extremely apathetic and wanted to do nothing to offset the inconvenience, just offered to have it sent in again. So I'm sending it in for the second time within a couple of months. The reason this is so longwinded is because I want to review this as a Sony product as well and all that's entailed with owning a sony product. Their customer service department isn't helpful and are not quick to take reviews just want to band aid their products like they did with this product for me.

Was looking for something reasonable as a replacement for a HTIB. I've had the HTIB for about 4 years and it finally gave out on me. This receiver did the trick I have it hooked into Harman Kardon speakers and wow this receiver is great. Such clarity I can hear pretty much everything. Not too many options would be my only gripe but I can live with that Bluetooth connectivity is awesome. I have 2 patio speakers in my back yard and it's loud the neighbor was like wow that's clear. I got this at a steal for $199 will recommend this receiver to family and friends. Well done.

    Broken after 3 months

I am extremely disappointed that my new STRDH770 receiver, purchased in October 2017 at Best Buy, has just failed. Specifically, the unit will no longer pass any HDMI signals to my also new Sony 4K television. Right out of the box the receiver would often exhibit an issue when switching between input sources or TV channels at different native resolutions, the issue being that the video had a purplish hue. This issue would clear itself if I switched back and forth a few times between channels or input sources and in fact was not occurring very often the past month or so prior to total video switching failure. Note I have verified the television and its HDMI input are fine by connecting my Directv satellite output to the TV's HDMI input.

    Best for the money

After looking at all the available pass-through receivers, I bought this as it seemed like the best without spending 2-3 times as much money. I am very satisfied at the sound quality and functionality. So far it has made our home theater much easier and seamless. One of the attributes I keep an eye on is how long my purchase will keep me happy with my system. This unit should keep up with an up-to-date theater system for quite a while. Well worth the money.

I got this reciever while on sale for $200. I’ll tell you that you aren’t going to get anything much better for that price. If I had to have something to complain about it’s that it’ll get a little hot, but if it gets too hot it will shut off. Which in my opinion is better than just letting it run too hot. The only time it completely shut off on me I was listening to music extremely loud (loud enough for the neighbors to hear!)

Constant Sound Cut-off and Poor 4K

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this receiver to replace my old Sony DG810 and improve my sound since I purchase a Sony 75" 4K XBR75Z9D tv. Connected with high speed HDMI cables to the TV and Optical going to the receiver (same set-up as I currently have). First problem, I select Dolby Digital, the sound is off (delayed) on 4K Movies and games from my XBOX S and games on my PS4, like I am watching old Japanese movies, so forces me to select DTS. Next issue, when connected to Directv and I change the channel, sound comes on for a 1/2 second then cuts out for a full second, comes back for 1/2 second and then cuts out again before coming back on again. Also, when it goes to commercial, same thing happens. I have connected through Optical (same as DG810) and then tried HDMI from Directv and then to TV, but didnt solve the problem. Next problem, I tried connecting the XBOX S through receiver to the TV, I lose the use of HDR and the colors are completely wash out. Another annoying issue, the flagship Sony TV doesnt communicate directly with this receiver, but if I drop down to the STRDH550 it does??? Sound is better, but too many issues to even considering keeping. Sad the technically from 8+ years ago works better Sony.

    What A Great Receiver

I am very pleased with this receiver. Great Sound Quality and especially for the sales price I purchased it at. Surround sounds great through my surround sound speaker setup. Had a Sony before and made the mistake to buy a Pioneer which only lasted a few years. Got close to 20 years out my last Sony. I highly recommend this receiver.

    Good but could be better

I would give this 5 stars if it worked easily right out of the box. I'm using it as a passthrough for my PS4 Pro, but for some reason when playing a game - in this case Call of Duty WWII - it's telling me that the signal is 2k. I reviewed the video output info and it confirmed that as well. I then plugged my PS4 Prop directly into my TV and it upgraded to display in 4k. I'm using the same HDMI cords and the same TV inputs so the problem is clearly with the passthrough using the receiver, but I don't know how to correct it.
