    I purchased this receiver 2.5 years ago and it worked great. I understood at the time it was quite an entry-level model and didn't have high hopes, and it served its purpose. I had no complaints. After 2.5 years of service, it broke. I wish it lasted longer but I think I got my money's worth.

    perfect for my needs with chromcast

    looking for my 75x75 yard with 6 speakers and going back and forth about which to buy, with many new receivers having wifi but cost 2x or more. this one, with chromcast, is fantastic. I know I cant upgrade the firmware over wifi but that's fine--its not worth the extra cash. 1000+ solid reviews cant be wrong.

    Terrible quality control and bad parts

    I have been using this receiver since 11/24/17. From the first moment that I plugged it in, there is a noticeable hum coming from the top of the unit. You can heat it 5 feet away. My entire family hears it. I tried all of the solutions from Sony support. I even disconnected it from all the wires and plugged it in at different levels of my house. The noise is still there. It is probably coming from the power supply. It was a big mistake on my part not to have returned it to Best Buy. When I called Sony support the first time, the tech told me that it was normal. What was strange was that he did not ask for any information like they normally do. It was a big mistake to listen to this tech. I missed the 2 week return window. I just sent it for service yesterday. I could not take the hum noise anymore. I actually went to another Best Buy and plugged in the display unit. It was totally quiet. I am going to pursue this until I get my unit fixed or one that is quiet. The hum is unacceptable. I just hooked up my 25 year old Yamaha a/v received which works fine and make no noise. It is a pleasure to use it again.

    Bought used, got a word that rhymes with ship

    Bought this out of the box in "excellent" condition online. Stupid me. "Excellent," according to the Best Buy website, is shipped with all components, no damage, and cosmetically in good condition. Shipped with all components- Was missing antenna, remote, microphone, manual. Basically, the only thing in it was the receiver. No damage- The thing was shipped in a single layer of bubble wrap. The person who shipped it didn't know what they were doing. Not a clue. As I picked it up, two pieces of plastic came out of the receiver box, as well as some rattling sounds from inside. Cosmetically in good condition- Knobs were scuffed, dent in lower corner, probably from shipping. Tried hooking it up to my sound system, couldn't get a single peep out of the thing. I called customer service, got a replacement to get shipped to nearest store. Received an email a little later saying the order was cancelled. Yeah, Best Buy. That's pretty much the definition of bad customer service.

    only compatible with hdmi 2+ cables per Sony

    my 10yr old ONKYO receiver is showing its age so I upgrade to the new Sony 770 receiver. I have a computer and cable box connected to the receiver and receiver connected to the TV, all with 1.3 HDMI cables, and everything worked fine with the ONKYO. I unplugged the ONKYO and plugged in the Sony with all the same cables. I could get the HOME menu on the sony to appear. I could complete the easy setup and audio calibration on the Sony but when I tried to watch the cable box, I got a blank screen and no audio. I could watch videos on the computer but I could not watch a DVD or Netflix on the computer Sony support said that I needed to replace all my HDMI cables with newer 2.2 HDMI cables. Not easy for me since my HDMI cables are under the floor and behind the walls. Not sure why it wouldn't work if I am using 1.3 HDMI cables for input and for output. Also not sure why I could watch a 1080p video on my computer but netflix. I plugged back in my ONKYO and everything works fine.

    Not a good passthrough receiver

    Amazon TV and Apple TV looked pretty bad on my new Samsung TV. Other content was ok, but not what I expected from a new Ultra HD 4K TV. I returned it and found my components and just a soundbar worked much better going to the TV directly without the Sony receiver.

    Love this receiver! Hooked up some old speakers, DVR, Sat box and have even connected phone to it. The bluetooth sound is a lot quieter than everything else, but other than that, this is a great unit.

    Cheesy indoor antenna input only

    Notice it only has a cheesy "indoor antenna" input. We have never been able to get FM reception here without an outdoor antenna, which comes only with a coax input. Receivers in this price range should have the antenna input pictured by Sony in their A/V help section (#38374), not the cheesy "inside antenna only" input this unit has. Guess I'll have to take it back.

    worked fine! but now i dont get no signal from sat/cable HDMI input going to cable box,dont understand.worked fine one day.but not the next day.just bought it 3 months ago.had cable guy out.box is fine.said receiver is not getting signal to cable box.and when the receiver is off.it keeps making clicking noises.is this normal!!! SONY help!

    I had a sony receiver for over 25 years and never a problem,. This new (3 monts ago) does not start the TV picture for as high as 25 seconds and when you change channels it locks up and you have to shut it down and restart. The crawl of sat/cab and sound volume freeze and you have to shut the receiver down and restart. The receiver was sent back and all they did was a factory reset and the same problems are still there

    6 months in I had issues with one of my input hdmi ports. Was within warranty so no issues getting a repair but was quite annoying. Now a little less than 1 month after the 1 year warranty is up, my one output port is no longer working. Stay away from sony. I will have to go through my CC's extended warranty to get this repaired now.

    From the flimsy remote to the fact it will not randomly play MP3's from a thumb drive to the difficulty setting up I truly regret buying this. No numbers on the remote to choose a channel or song to play. Have to tinker with different settings to get it play all the speakers. The calibration is a joke, it doesn't sample each speaker. It's going in the garage and I'll hook up my old Denon inside. The Denon is a MUCH better product.

    We bought this product to replace a Pioneer receiver. Bad choice. Within a week the Bluetooth stopped working. USB does not work for the Iphone when you want to play youtube or app music. HTML does not work when using a Dell or Macbook and play a CD or any music from the internet.
