Simple (complimentary), super useful accessory
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera grip is a basic but entirely functional accessory, and I’m really glad to have it because it punches above its weight class in utility. It's built entirely of plastic, but the construction is lightweight and sturdy; the hinge and mounts are robust, and I'm not worried about repeated use. The tripod legs fold up elegantly, giving it a clean profile that feels good in the hand. The tripod function is incredibly versatile, letting me set up and get perfect framing just about anywhere thanks to the super smooth and consistent swivel design that locks easily at any angle. The integrated Lock switch is essential because the subtle remote buttons are easy to press inadvertently when moving the camera. Speaking of the remote, the biggest button is a still-picture shutter, which feels like an odd use of prime real estate for a video-first device. Plus, zoom and focus are on a toggle, which is a bit clunky for me to operate, especially while I'm recording. The Bluetooth connectivity itself is quick and easy, though it requires navigating Sony's old-school menus to pair. While a rechargeable battery would be better than the lithium button, I don't expect any battery life issues (and carrying an extra CR2032 isn't exactly a huge burden). This is a functional tool that delivers meaningful convenience. It's not a high-end accessory, but I do recommend its straight-forward utility.

OUTSTANDING SONY WIRELESS CAMERA GRIP & TRIPOD
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony GP-VPT3/B Multi-function Bluetooth Shooting Grip / Tripod, with Wireless Remote Commander is the most recent iteration of the Sony combination shooting grip and tripod accessory. The new version is a nice upgrade from the previous model. Notable improvements were made to the control buttons/functions, and the most significant change is that the wireless remote controls are now incorporated into a separate Bluetooth remote control module (RMT-VP2) which is detachable from the shooting grip. I have been using two of the older Sony GP-VPT2BT units for the past several years with two Sony mirrorless cameras. My newest Sony camera also needed another shooting grip and I selected the newer GP-VPT3, which sells for approximately the same price point as the older model did. The removable Bluetooth remote control module is a game-changing feature when shooting talking-head videos! The capability to start and stop recording, zoom and pull focus without walking to the camera location can save a fair amount of editing in post, and any reduction of effort in the workflow is welcome. Of course, the remote control is just as useful whenever you need to quickly and easily control those camera functions anytime that the camera is not being used handheld. The remote control will function up to approximately 33 feet away from the camera. The RMT-VP2 remote control module snaps into the main body of the GP-VPT3 grip. It is mechanically (not magnetically) retained by a pair of small, plastic, spring-loaded pins near the bottom, so it is important to insert the top first before snapping in the bottom of the module. There is a cutout and metal bar near the bottom of the module, which apparently could be used for attaching a lanyard or small strap, if desired. The grip/tripod allows significant flexibility in adjusting both pan (up to 360 degrees) and tilt (up to 90° forward or back). Among the electronic remote camera controls are zoom function (rocker switch), as well as still photo shutter control (button), video start/stop control (button), plus C1 control (custom assignable button). Added to the GP-VPT3 is an AF ON button which works with certain Sony cameras, but not the ZV-E10. Additionally, the new version of the rotating thumb switch, which on the old model was limited to turning the Bluetooth controls on and off (Lock), is now expanded to allow selection of Zoom or Focus functionality for the rocker switch. The grip is manufactured of heavy plastic which is textured on most hand-held surfaces. It feels solid and is both comfortable and balanced with a camera mounted with the kit lens or small prime or zoom lenses. Interestingly, the GP-VPT3 at 183 g is 27 g (slightly less than 1 oz) lighter than the GP-VPT2 which weighs 210 g. Obviously, balance with a camera with a long lens mounted would likely be an issue, as would stability when used as a tabletop tripod with a front-heavy camera and lens combination. With compact and lightweight cameras like the ZV-E models and α6xxx models, it is ideal. The bottom of each of the three legs has a rubber pad for stability when used as a tabletop tripod. The camera mounts securely to the top of the grip/tripod with the standard ¼”-20 thread tripod screw mount. The top plate can be panned/rotated a full 360°, with locking detents at each 90° increment. The release button for that rotational function is conveniently placed immediately below the top mounting plate and is easily operated with the user’s thumb. The entire head unit tilts up or down a full 90° (180° range of motion). The tilt function has a knurled friction control adjustment knob on the right, as well as ten detent locking positions for the up and down adjustments. The tilt lock-release button is on the left and likewise is easily accessible and operated. Obviously, the mounted camera should be supported and stabilized whenever adjusting tilt angle on the grip/tripod. On the rear surface of the grip, below the pan/tilt mount is the detachable remote control unit for wireless, Bluetooth operation of camera functions. The “Photo” button provides shutter control for still shots in the same manner as the shutter button on the camera body. Depressing the button half-way activates camera auto-focus, which when achieved illuminates the small LED indicator lamp located near the top center. Continuing to full button depression activates the camera shutter. The “Movie” button toggles video function on and off. Video recording is confirmed by illumination of the LED indicator. The rocker switch is switchable for Zoom lens control or Focus control (when the camera is set to Manual Focus mode). The C1 button replicates the user programmable C1 button on the camera body and the AF ON button replicates the functionality of AF ON button on the camera body of some Sony cameras, not including the ZV-E10. The rotating Lock (and Power) switch, which locks all of the controls to prevent inadvertent operation of the camera and conserve battery power also allows assignment of Focus or Zoom control to the rocker switch. The GP-VPT3 is powered by a single CR2032 lithium button battery, which is included. The GP-VPT3 must be paired to the camera via Bluetooth using a simple and straightforward process. The grip length is about 6.75” from stem to stern, and when functioning as a tabletop tripod, the bottom of the camera is elevated 5.25”. The tripod is rated to hold a maximum load of 53 ounces (1.5 kg). A convenient velvet fabric, drawstring storage pouch is included. Even though it is light weight, I am confident that the GP-VPT3 will be durable. I have been using two of the older GP-VPT2 shooting grips for several years and they remain in perfect condition despite the extensive use they have received. The obvious target users for the GP-VPT3 shooting grip / tripod are vloggers. Walking videos, both outward facing and selfie are much easier when using the GP-VPT3. It may not be a stabilizing gimbal, but it is compact and lightweight, very utilitarian, easy to use and carry and store in even a small camera bag. I have also found that the GP-VPT3 is also very useful for conventional photography and videography applications. The additional reach and camera operating control button on the extension really facilitate shooting from high angles and low angles, without being a contortionist. Likewise, the usefulness and convenience of a compact, lightweight, stable and fully adjustable (pan/tilt) tabletop tripod, with integrated controls for basic camera functions serves many useful photography and videography purposes. I find the GP-VPT3/B to be extremely handy and useful. When my camera is not mounted to the shooting grip, the accessory is always kept immediately available in my camera bag, tucked into the nice drawstring storage pouch that Sony includes in the package. Sony products are typically well designed, well made and reliable. My Sony cameras are all stellar, and the GP-VPT3/B Shooting Grip / Tripod, with Wireless Remote Commander is a very useful accessory! It is an excellent improvement on the GP-VPT2 shooting grips that I have been using for several years.

Work Remotely!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony GP-VPT3 was a great addition to anyone who vlogs or has a mirrorless camera! You get a sleek and smooth design. There is rubber on the bottom of the two exterior legs. You get plenty of adjustment for getting the Right Angle. You can even capture yourself vertically. The simple and easy design is very intuitive. Now, with the VPT3 the remote separates from the base. This is another feature for anyone setting their camera down or on a tripod. Connecting the Grip to my Sony ZVE10 was easy. It recognized the device quickly and synced even faster. I was able to record or take a picture with the snap on a remote button. The remote also takes standard CR 2032 batteries. Not sure how long the battery will last. You can also get the remote separately. Some other features on the remote are turning on AF, Zoom in and out, and C1 function button. Just being able to use your camera remotely is the biggest feature with this tripod/grip! Also makes a good tripod for a traveling webcam! I highly recommend the Sony - GP-VPT3!

My Macro & Portrait Photo Companion!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Sony GP-VPT3 mostly as a tool for portraits and macro work, and even though I do not use it every day, I appreciate it every time I pull it out. For portrait photography it gives me the ability to work closer to my subjects while posing them. It keeps the camera steady while letting me step in and adjust a shoulder, fix hair, or shift someone slightly without needing to constantly back up to the camera. That small improvement in workflow feels good and keeps the pace of the session comfortable. Where it really shines for me is macro photography. When I am shooting at f11 or higher and lowering my shutter speed to get as much depth of field as possible, even the smallest vibration can ruin the shot. I used to introduce shake just by touching the camera to press the shutter. With the remote control on the grip I can trigger the shot without physically touching the body, and the difference in stability is noticeable right away. It removes one of the biggest frustrations of macro shooting and makes the whole process smoother. I also like the integrated tripod. The fact that it serves as both a compact tripod and a comfortable grip makes it a practical tool, especially when I need to put the camera down quickly or hold it at unusual angles. It is stable enough for what it is and gives me confidence during the times I rely on it. The truth is that I do not use this grip very often, but the build quality, the convenience of the Bluetooth remote, and the flexibility of having a tiny tripod always available make it worth keeping in my kit. For the few situations where I need it, it works exactly the way I want and saves me time. Knowing that I have this option available, especially for portraits and macro work, makes it a valuable part of my gear setup.

Helpful Grip/Tripod/Remote
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was picking up a new camera for on the go, the Sony Alpha ZVE10 APS-C Content Creators’ Camera, and wanted a grip that also doubled as a Tripod. That’s when I saw the new Sony GP VPT3 Multi-Function Bluetooth Shooting Grip, Tripod and Remote, which as the name states checked all the boxes plus would for sure work with the new camera. Pros: - Works with Sony Cameras. - Compact Grip/Tripod with remote bundled in. Cons: - Plastic material feels lightweight and cheap. - No added stabilization. Out of the Box: The GP-VPT3 Multi-Function Grip/Tripod comes with the grip/tripod, removeable remote, and carrying case. The remote snaps into the handled of the grip/tripod for easy access and storage on the go. The carrying case is a simple fabric drawstring bag. Build & Feel: Unfortunately, first thing I noticed about the grip was that the smooth plastic parts feel lightweight and cheap. I’m not a fan of the smooth lightweight plastics, as they don’t feel sturdy and reminds me of low-quality toys. The textured grip of the 2 tripod legs feels better, but still would feel like a more premium product if made from a different material. The two locking wheels similarly feel like they will easily break. Not a quality feel. The tripod works by having the 2 legs fold out from behind the leg that holds the remote, while the head can tilt and rotate the camera around. The remote snaps right in, and only comes out if you pull it out. There are 2 buttons that release the tilt and rotate; the tilt button is on the head of the hinge, and the rotate button is below the foot of the camera. Tilt can be locked in place by screwing the other side of the hinge tight. On the foot is the camera foot screw, with the plastic wheel, to attach or remove the camera. The combination of the tilt and rotate can cover almost any angle if you adjust the tripod legs, just be careful as the camera makes the tripod top heavy. Using It: The Grip/Tripod design is very useful, especially for vlogging on the go as you have an easy way to hold and maneuver the camera, with easy access to the camera controls via the snapped in remote. Then if you need to take a distanced shot or set up the camera you can pull the tripod legs out and take out the remote to take fixed camera shots. I found it extremely convenient and helpful when used with the Sony Alpha ZVE10. The biggest downside of a simple grip/tripod like this is that there is no added camera stabilization besides what you can manage in the shot. Though, depending on the camera being used, stabilization can be no issue. I found the remote was very helpful when streaming from the camera, as the remote could control the focus easily along with the quick setting adjustments which made it much easier than trying to reach around or touch the screen to adjust. If anything, the remote alone is worth it! Conclusion: If you are getting a Sony Camera, that you plan to use on the go or for streaming, I highly recommend getting a grip and remote to help with controlling the camera in any situation. The Sony GP-VPT3 Multi-Function Grip, Tripod, and Remote has it all. The only downside is the material of the tripod could be better, but overall, it does the job well.

Great Multipurpose Grip For Travel, But Pricey
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a versatile accessory that serves as a grip for extended reach, a simple tripod, and a controller that pairs nicely with cameras like Sony’s ZV-E10. It’s built well with quality black plastic and thoughtfully designed mount that’s easy to operate for quick mounting and removal. The lack of gimbal or stabilization prevents this from being the best grip alone. That is slightly a shame given how the ZV-E10 that I own lacks IBIS and could really benefit from such a thing. At the same time, having a grip at all helps move that camera further away from your body when pointing it at yourself. The further away, the more you can take advantage of digital stabilization if you need it. The remote features are nice, but really shine when detached. Each button and rocker is easy to feel for, allowing you to adjust focus or zoom, start or stop video, or take a photo while operating the remote out of view. When attached, moving your hand or manipulating controls often causes you to move the camera a bit too much, which can easily show up in your video if camera stabilization is off or reduced. Lastly, the easy flip-out legs make for a sturdy little tripod. When taking photos while traveling, this works well for placing your camera on a nearby surface. The whole package is compact and portable - and comes with a simple cloth cinch bag, making it easy to throw into a suitcase or bag. The legs have a decent amount of grip and friction to stay put when positioned, but they don’t extend. That seems perfectly appropriate for a product like this as it keeps it durable and straightforward. Overall, this grip is well made and feels durable, with an easy to use attachment gear design and a remote to control various camera functions live. Along with unsteady operation when using the controls while attached, my only other gripe is with the price. I wish it were a bit cheaper than it is at full price, but it’s a thoughtful design and I’d still recommend it if it meets your needs.

Tripod Magic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.[PROS] Build Quality: The tripod is very sturdy in supporting my camera whether in motion or stationary on a flat surface. When fully threaded inside the camera, I didn't notice much give to the product. I tried a few odd angles and was satisfied with the level of support providing by the feet and mounting point. Design Choice: By tying functionality to removeable remote within the tripod, I'm able to exercise greater control over my camera in different scenarios. For example, I'm able to adjust the zoom levels and manipulate focus when I'm recording myself in the speaking segments of my content. Being able do this on the fly without being near the camera is very helpful especially when it comes editing and processing before the final product is uploaded. I'm also pleased that they went with a removeable battery for power. I do find charging convenient, but internal batteries eventually die out. Responsive in Execution: Snapping photos, recording videos, and toggling settings are all things I'm able to do with virtually no latency. Furthermore, actions weren't hindered even when I was a considerable distance from the tripod. [CONS] None. Anything I can find wrong would be non-essential to the product. It could include more button functionality but then the tripod would be overcrowded and/or less portable because it would then need to be larger. [CONCLUSION] I can do a good number of primary functions through the VPT3. Regardless of position or movement, I can securely and efficiently direct my camera to shoot and record as desired. Although I still need to use the main unit for certain tasks, I still find this shooting grip effective for most of my needs. Overall, I would highly recommend.

Tripod, grip and wireless remote all in one
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're planning to use your Sony camera for vlogging or other content creation, then this is a MUST have accessory. Physically, it's a quite flexible mini tripod and grip that lets you either set up in one location OR go mobile and film YOURSELF much better than you possibly could without such a device. But it goes a step further and includes a multi-function remote control that snaps into the "front" of the tripod / grip and is super handy when you're using it to film yourself so you can quickly trigger the shutter, start/stop recording, change zoom or focus and so on. This means you're more likely to get the right content the FIRST time with less editing. The remote can also quickly be separated from the grip so you have a go anywhere remote (powered by a common 2032 button battery, which is included), handy if you're using a bigger tripod or other stand. The grip IS mostly plastic but seems to be nicely made and should prove to be durable enough in use and the pairing process between the remote and the camera was quick and easy. The tripod has somewhat limited adjustment, but is good for most purposes even still. So if you're in the market for an accessory to help your videos come out better the first time, this is a great option. Give it a try today!

Easy to use with many features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony GPVPT3 is a great grip that handles three jobs in a compact package. The shooting grip feels solid in hand with good to hold even for long periods. The button unlock lets you change angles quickly, which matters when you're switching between selfie and outward shots. I've been using it with the Sony ZVE10 camera and it is a perfect pairing. The tripod mode is awesome and easy to use. It is stable and solid when opened. The remote detaches magnetically and gives you quite a bit of range. It was worked very reliabely. The remote has the controls you actually want - shutter, record, autofocus, a customizable button, and a zoom button with lock switch. It is easy to use with one hand, making is great for vlogging videos. This grip with remote makes an excellent portable set up, but it is also great to use in a home studio. Setting the camera in place on the tripod and using the remote has been excellent and such a time saver. It is easy to use and has the great quality that Sony is known for.

One-Handed Shooting Made Easy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn’t expect to love this grip as much as I do, but it’s honestly become one of those “how did I ever shoot without this?” kind of accessories. Whether I’m filming a vlog, snapping quick photos, or setting up a stable shot, the GP-VPT3 Grip has made everything feel way more effortless. Right out of the box, it was super easy to pair with my ZV-E10 just a couple of taps and I was ready to go. No cords, no hassle. It feels really solid in hand, but it’s not bulky or heavy, which I appreciate when I’m out shooting for a while. It’s super responsive and saves me from constantly reaching for the camera. What really sold me is the detachable remote on the front. It has buttons for taking photos, starting and stopping video, zooming, and more. I can do pretty much everything one-handed, which is a lifesaver when I’m vlogging or trying to grab a quick shot without setting things down. The grip flips out into a mini tripod too, which I’ve used way more than I expected. It’s perfect for quick setups on a table or bench, and it’s surprisingly stable. I’ve used it for casual vlogs, and even some low-angle outdoor stuff. Adjusting the angle is super smooth, and it’s easy to tilt or swivel the camera without needing to mess with a full tripod head. It’s just simple and intuitive. If you’re using a Sony camera that’s compatible, I can’t recommend this grip enough. It’s one of those accessories that quietly makes everything easier and once you’ve used it, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it.

Flexible and feature rich, a little pricey
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Review for Sony - GP-VPT3 Multi-function Bluetooth Shooting Grip, Tripod and Remote Comander I recently got the Sony Alpha ZVE10 camera, which is great for content creation. It is lightweight and easy to hold, but for extended shooting and convenience, the GP-VPT3 Multi-function Bluetooth Shooting Grip makes everything better. You can use it as a tripod with the commander attached, or separate, or as a grip to shoot extended video in comfort. The tripod with detachable remote is easy to set up, steady, and sturdy. It’s great to use the commander while attached and equally great to pop it off and use it like your tv remote. Its weather-resistant finish makes it fine to use outdoors. The camera recognizes when you are shooting horizontally or vertically, which makes shooting for specific platforms very convenient. That said, the grip is great if you’re shooting horizontally, but not as comfortable or convenient if you want to shoot vertically. It would be easy to fix this with a flippable head on the grip.
