I was looking for a basic turntable for my extensive vinyl collection. I did not need a first-class state-of-the-art turntable. I did need a functional turntable which was easy to operate and sounded very good. This turntable met my expectations and more.

Great turntable when you have proper expectations!

Great turntable when you have proper expectations! After some time with the Sony turn table I am convinced that many of the negative reviews this turntable gets are the result of either improper expectations or issues with the included software for ripping MP3s. Addressing the later first, the included software isn’t great and has some issues with 64bit operating systems. I don’t use it, you can use any audio program you want including Audacity that is available completely free. On that note the USB function of this TT works great. You just have to select the Turntable as your source when you are doing your recordings. Alternatively since the TT has an included Pre-Amp you can run line-in right to the sound card and not have to worry about USB or driver issues. But this is a turntable and ultimately I bought it to listen to vinyl records. I am very happy with it’s performance here. It’s important to understand that for 129.00 you are not getting a pro-level turntable but it’s far and above the cheapo options out there. The cartridge is not changeable, but the stylus is. It’s fully automatic and supports 33 1/3 or 45RPMs. Sorry no 78s but I don’t have 78s so I’m not counting that as a downside because I had that expectation going in. It’s fully automatic so you pop your record on press a mechanical button and it queues its self to the beginning of the record. It will also stop and return the tone arm on its own at the end of the record. You can manual queue using the UP/DOWN button as well. The sound is solid for my rig a decent but not super high end Denon with Yamaha tower speakers. You do have to place the platter (Aluminum) and set the drive belt when assembling for the first time but it’s made super easy. The mat is rubber and not felt like some higher end systems. The construction is plastic not metal but I don’t have a problem with its appearance. Is this a pro/dj level TT? Absolutely not and I hope you’re not looking in the 130.00 range for such an item. If you want to upgrade your cartridge, scratch vinyl at parties or tweak you anti-skate and tracking force this isn’t for you. I’d suggest starting at minimum with the Audio-Technical LP-120 and going up from there. If you want something at a low price to listen to vinyl with a good sound that can connect via USB, phono inputs OR line-level RCA inputs this is it. The RCA cable is hard wired and a little short but pick up an extension and your’ fine. A great value! A note on “hum” a have seen a few reviews complaining of hum. This TT is sensitive to being placed close to your speakers/sub and will pass some of that back. Like any TT placement and leveling is important. Also, it will pickup noise if the volume is high and the cover open/off. Not an issue with the cover closed for what it’s worth.

I bought thus turntable a few months ago as part of a desire to get back into HIFI. I was looking for an entry level component, but I wanted to be sure it was a HIFI instrument. I purchased it from a web based company and told the sales person as such. To be sure it was considered HIFI, and not trusting his knowledge on this subject I asked if it came with a magnetic cartridge. He said yes. Well, he was right to a point. The Sony PSLX300USB uses a magnetic cartridge, and by that logic it would be considered HIFI, but just barely. It sounds good, not great, but pleasing. On some recordings it seems to lack dynamic range. It seems able to reproduce low frequencies well such as bass or large drums. The stereo separation seems good. And, there is no background noise. It’s very quiet. It looks good. It’s had a nice, slick look. With iso legs, removable dust cover, and an all black presentation. It’s fully auto, but I’ve had some problems with the stylus missing the edge of the vinyl. This was so prevalent I now operate it as a semi auto. It has a damped cuing button do it’s not a problem. So, it has a lot if good points. However, there are some issues: The permanently placed magnetic cartridge means I am unable to upgrade the cartridge. I purchase better stylus, but I’m stuck with the cartridge. The counter balance is factory set, so I cannot adjust the downforce. And, unless I purchase a downforce gauge I have to assume the factory set it correctly. I have been told it has an anti skip force factory installed. Again, no way to check. I’m short, this is indeed an entry level turntable. It sounds good and since I upgraded the stylus one level up, I imagine it sounds as good as many higher priced turntables. But, it has a few shortcomings. Even though it sounds good, I believe it’s close to the limit for upgrades. So, I’m stuck with the sound it’s now producing. One can adjust the speed, but only by inserting a small flathead screwdriver in a small slit like opening at the underside of the unit. To say the least it inconvenient. And one cannot gauge the speed except by using an outside device such as an app on a smart phone. When one considers all the above, I would be unable to recommend this to a newbie unless they were properly informed. It’s sounds good, looks good, but I’m the long run a dead end device. It’s HIFI, but just barely so....

So far love the sound from my Sony turntable. Tried another brand before this one and sound was tinny. Only problem is the software that came with it. I would like to put my vinyl collection on computer but software is only fro a pc . I own a Mac and software not compatible. I will contact Sony to see if they can help.

I was looking for a usb turntable and didn't want to spend $100 dollars or more. This one was on sale for black Friday at a great price. Also, I have had very good luck with sony products. This turntable is excellent and I now can burn my old LPs!

This Sony is exactly what I was looking for -- sleek, cool design and perfect size. I had to decide what to do with all my vintage old LP's -- sell them; give them to my grown kids? Nope -- I'm keeping them and enjoying them all over again!

I purchased this turntable when my previous one encountered an unfortunate accident. So far, this turntable has served me well, with clean sound (compared to some others I've used) and a small and simple design. It's great for a casual vinyl listener, such as myself.

Before purchasing this record player I did a lot of research on what would fit my needs. I am new to the vinyl so I didn't want to start with something top of the line, nor did I want to go overly basic. This is a good, middle of the road record player. It does offer a switch on the back for Phono or Line. Meaning if the receiver you are using has a built in phono preamp, you can use that. If your receiver doesn't have a phono preamp, you can use the built in one on the record player. The only drawback on the built in preamp is that it is not very powerful. It works but you have to turn your receiver up quite a bit. I have a Sony surround sound receiver and had to turn the volume up to about 35 to hear the vinyl at a normal lever. If you were watching a movie and had the volume at 35, you would be uncomfortable because that would be overly loud (although you would drown out anybody chatting during your movie). I bought an external phono preamp (not from Best Buy, they don't really sell those from what I found) and now I listen with the sound around 17 or 18 and it sounds great.

I wanted to give this 5 stars because of the way that it delivers vs its price, but I realized that that wouldn't be fair to higher-end models that truly deserve 5 stars. Still, I was kind of shocked that this sounds as good as it does. So far I've played about a dozen LPs, so this is an early assessment. But it's got a very clean and warm sound. It also seems less susceptible to footsteps etc than my cherished JVC turntable from 1981 :) No problems whatsoever with skating or anything like that. It's true that the RCA cable is comically short, but it fit my setup just fine, fortunately. Wicked plastic/chemical odor when the lid is open, hopefully that will dissipate soon.

This unit is well priced when compared to other manufacturers and what you get is about the same quality. Very little set up is required and it's easy to use. Sounds great through my Sony sound system. Incudes software for sound editing and music transfer to computer through a USB connection that you would pay extra for on other manufacturer's products. I am very pleased with my purchase.

I had been looking at turntables off and on for a couple of years, and most seemed to have a "retro" look, which I do not like. This turntable looks good, works great, and was such a bargain, I couldn't pass it up. Almost wish I had bought two...one to use to transfer music to CDs and one to keep hooked up to my stereo.

Turntable sounds good but the needle is very touchy....Make sure to set the needle on the record YOURSELF because the second or third time I let it do it on its own it BROKE the needle...

As with many "old timers", I wanted to be able to listen to my vinyls once again. From a large selection (>1500 LPs), over the years I am down to only a handful. But these still brought back memories once I was able to play them again. The turntable is fairly basic, with a very simple setup. Nothing fancy here (thus the 4 stars). But if you are looking to play those old vinyls and have a blast with the kids, going back to the old classics (from Hendrix, to Pink Floyd, The Who, and the disco 70"s) this turntable will definitely help in that trip. I got this as a Xmas and 1/2 off. More than happy!

I've had this record player for a few months now and have no complaints. I haven't tried connecting it to record to my computer. I open the dust shield, I put a record on it, I start it, I listen to music. It works... Only annoyance was that there is a guard on the needle (my guess is to protect it during shipping). I didn't see anything in the manual about it, but needless to say it took me a few minutes to figure out why I couldn't hear anything at first.

This is a great turntable. I am very happy that I purchased it. It was easy to connect to my Sony receiver. It includes an USB output. I would absolutely recommend this product. There are a few cons, for me: 1) it doesn't have an insert. I was hoping to be able to listen to all my records, but now I have to hunt down an insert. This is really the first record player I've ever owned that has not had one included. 2) I wish it had a small light on the front or on the needle, or even better, both. It's not always easy to see the buttons, and black turntable and black vinyl can make it a little hard to see when you want to make song changes. 3) The cables come attached in the back and are extremely short.

All of our LPs had become inaccessible until we got this new turntable. Although it's slightly tricky to install, it works just fine; our old recordings sound great. Unfortunately, the digitizing software doesn't work on a Mac platform (only PC).
