Should have known that a low-priced Blu-Ray DVD in a barrel would be a risk. There was NOTHING on the disc.

I liked the movie, but i almost returned it due to that fact it would not play on my Sony Bluray player. After researching the issue I discovered a reference to my problem. The solution: buy a memory unit. That’s right, my copy of “Starship Troopers” has a save file. I have a Sony BDP-350, the 200 dollar unit. It has a USB port in the back for memory expansion. In the product manual, it says extra memory will be required for special java games and extended functions of a Blu-Ray disc. Luckily, any USB device can be used as long as it fits in the recessed USB slot. Nowhere does it mention the extra memory would ever be required to play a movie. Short version: Sony’s software will not play on Sony’s hardware without an extra purchase. As it happens, this particular Blu-Ray disc was authored in such a way that it needs to save data to memory before it can launch its own menu. If the “Starship Troopers” disc fails to load, memory is the problem. WOW you just have to love Sony...

It's cheesy and ridiculous, but by god it's fun. Starship Troopers is by no means a great movie, it won't be watched as an annual Christmas feature by any but the most unbalanced of families, but it is one of the most rewatchable movies of this ilk that has been produced since the 60's. These people are living in a time where bugs launch plasam into space which in turn knocks meteors toward earth which destroy cities, they can get tattoos by laser but still fight wars with guns that use bullets. In training they're told that they learn how to use knives because an enemy can't push a button to launch nuclear missles if you disable his hand, but they're not fighting an enemy with nuclear capabilites or hands. It's all that kind of cheesy fun and the over the top violence mixed with social satire that makes this movie work, and makes it's sequels so disappointing. Starship Troopers is on my short list of movies I can watch any time and still enjoy it, no matter what mood or what else is going on.

Starship Troopers is one of those films that is so over the top, badly acted, filled with strong social commentary, has 'cult-film' written all over it, and so blood-squirting (not sure it this beats Kill Bill), that it's insanely fun to watch and get lost in. I can't seem to pass it up when I come across it on cable TV. I only owned the DVD version, so it's a huge upgrade in video quality over that, and (from what I've read) a jump up from the blu ray. It's got grain (hey, when you're killing bugs, things get messy), so don't expect this to look like a newer digitally filmed movie. But there's a lot to be seen with the extra detail and sharpness in PQ. There are varying colors and shading on the bugs I've never noticed before. This is well worth the cost of admission. If you want to be a Citizen, but this version!

If you're a die-hard Heinlein fan, this movie doesn't have much to do with the book (which was a scathing social commentary on, among other things, democratic societies and the demonizing of enemies in war). A few of the basic plot elements are there, but the social commentary in the movie is ham-fisted and often (unintentionally) comical. But the movie is very entertaining if you can get past Denise Richards horrible acting and Casper Van Dien's fairly wooden performance. On the other hand, Jake Busey, Michael Ironside and Dina Meyer (Jason Priestly's older teacher girlfriend on 90210) do a pretty good job. The special effects are actually very good for 1997 and the actors are all nice to look at. Like any Paul Verhoeven movie, there's some gratuitous nudity, so it's not really a kid movie, although the fast-paced action, simple plot and slick special effects are extremely reminiscent of Transformers or one of the later Star Wars movies, so kids would certainly enjoy it. All-in-all, I've always had fun turning off my brain and watching this movie for what it is: entertaining trash.

This is one of my favorite sci-fi movies, it's a classic. It does seem corny at times, but it is a parody of science fiction [so its supposed to be]. The quality of the Blu-Ray is of the best I own. Everything from their uniforms to the desert battlefields show an excruciating amount of detail. If you have seen this movie on DVD, buy the Blu-Ray. If you like sci-fi I am quite sure you will enjoy the story, action, and acting.

starship troopers is a good sci/fi action movie that when i first saw the movie trailer i was like wow and when i went and watch it in theaters i was like wow bc it is a good popcorn sci/fi movie and the blu-ray is amazing bc it looks and sounds good and the blu-ray has all the extra that was on the dvd but i can say it looks and sound alot better on blu-ray so if you can find it for 10 bucks or less pick it up bc it is well worth owning on blu-ray and if you have home theater than this is the one to show off to your friends

I first saw this movie on tv years ago, and then again several years later on dvd, I liked the film and thought it was made quite well. However my 2 year old got ahold of my dvd's and destroyed it, so I bought it again this time on BD. The movie REALLY came into it's own with the differences between the regular dvd and BD. The BD extra's for this movie by far out weigh the extra's of many other movie extra's. There is so much more to see in the Blu-Ray disk versions.

This is a great movie. Good special effects, lots of killing, bravado. The theme is very well done! Anyone who tells you this movie is bad, it's cause they're lefties. They feel like this movie glorifies war. The ironic part is that the director is also a lefty, and his goal was to make a ridiculous, over-the-top facist war movie to poke fun of conservatives and patriotism. Unfortunately for him, his movie has the opposite effect. Just watch it, leave your political bias at the door, and you'll enjoy!

If you're looking at this, you probably already know the movie and how cheesy/amazing it is, so I'll keep this review to the packaging. This is one of my favorite steelbook releases of the past year. The quality is top notch and the design is brilliant. It holds true to the film and evokes a heavy fascistic/military feel that is felt throughout the film. It's simple, clean and effective. I'm proud to display this on my shelf.

This futuristic farce is about giant alien "Bugs" trying to take over the world. It is not meant for the serious movie watcher who enjoys X-Files like movies. I crack up whenever I see this movie. Some of the scenes are pretty gory but the lines that are given to the actors...well, lets just say any one of us could have written this. (If you have a twisted sense of humor!) There is a bit of romance thrown in but that just makes it funnier. Watch and see!

4 stars of 5 for this classical sci-fi movie. Yeah, I've seen Starship Troopers lots of times. It is a unique story with great characters and well produced. This is a really fun sci-fi movie to watch. Great special effects and a nice future look. As always, my only complaint is why send ground troops with under-powered weapons to attack the "bugs" without air support? Oh, well. I do recommend this movie.

This is such a great movie and has such amazing special effects for an older movie. Ive always liked this ever since my friend told me about and i watched this on his psp. I coudlnt believe it, but i watched all the way through on his psp and was so amused by it. Definately worth getting for ur collection.

Gorgeous transfer for 4K, and you can't go wrong with the steel book Pop Art case. Great buy!

Classic late night '90s sci-fi action movie does make for the ultimate hi-def experience!

Great movie! BUT as reviewed earlier- The Digital cloud copy is truly HD Quality 1080p/720p :) Unfortunately the Blu-Ray disc copy looks like SD QUALITY 480p :( not HD. Looks Great on VUDU! Compare for yourself.
