Customers highly value the QUAD OTA DVR's ease of use, excellent picture quality, and reliable recording capabilities. Many appreciate the commercial skip feature and the ability to record multiple channels simultaneously. However, some users experienced connectivity problems and occasional buffering issues. A few also noted that the device can get quite warm during operation.

WHEN IT WORKS-its great

When it works it is amazing. For the first month it was perfect. Then it started shutting off daily because of supposedly bad reception on a channel. Does not restart on its own as advertised so you may think your shows has been recorded but the unit doesn't work until you manually switch it back on. We have deleted over half of the channels our antenna brings in and are still having this problem. Pretty soon there will be no channels left to record which would make this unit worthless. Phone calls to the manufacturer are answered with the same response-delete a particular channel to prevent this problem.

Overall a decent unit, but support is lacking.

When this unit worked, it did work pretty well. The guide could be better, especially when used with a Roku - like being able to move channels, select channels, etc. However my unit failed JUST after the warranty and Tablo support was like "sorry, not sorry - lose the lifetime guide you paid for or buy a new unit". This was after purchasing a new power supply directly from them just in case that is what failed. Overall... not real happy with the support I received.

Great for cord cutting! Stream local channels. Best if implemented over a LAN or need a very strong WiFi.

Great customer service they helped with the installation and got me up and running channels vary clear . ABC. NBC. CBS were jumping vertically with a split screen contacted customer service and they performed a test on there end concluded that antennas were weak and interferences. So I sent it back it was not going to work for me. I reinstalled my OTA DVR Tablo competitor and it works fine . Tablo is a good DVR I’ll purchase again when they correct there problem

The thing was constantly overheating. After about 2 hrs of watching TV it would start skipping popping and locking up for minutes at a time. I returned this thing after about 2 weeks of fighting with it.

Not what i expected it to be. Too difficult for me to set up being I have limited capabilities due to health issues. I just really need local channels now due to my disabilities. Just need to return it to the store, but don't know how. Guess I am stuck with the loss.

Had to force stop app every time you changed a channel. Wouldn't hook up to wireless. Unexpected error message came up every time. Ended up returning it.

I monitor my data usage closely because I just started streaming. My Tablo has been using a tremendous amount. 32 GB in 24 hours. I had to unplug it because it is using up my data cap. The Tablo uses almost as much Data as my Firestick. It's not supposed to.
It works great but I can't afford to keep it.

While watching tv, pauses to load, every 2 minutes, interrupting show, my router can handle 4K, not my internet problem .
Other channels like 5.2, 5.3, 9.2, 9.4, use to come in on my old Magnavox DVR, not on Tablo. I have smart TV, wish a HDMI could go from Tablo yo TV.

Impressive product and company - recommended!

I've had this unit up and running for two weeks now and couldn't be more pleased. Getting ready to say goodbye to high monthly bills for satellite TV. Able to reproduce all of the DVR functionality we used on satellite or cable boxes - just over the air with an indoor antenna. Purchased and installed the recommended 1TB hard drive. Setup was easy and quick if you read the instructions and follow along. Able to watch live TV and recorded programs on 3 different smart TV brands using Tablo apps on each platform. As other reviewers have commented, there is a 2-5 second delay when switching channels on live TV, but a minor inconvenience considering the overall value and functionality of this product. Lastly, the communication from the company is outstanding. Steady drip of emails since registering the product that are really useful for learning about the features of the device. Not junk, not selling, just FAQs, and knowledge base information. I'm impressed and highly recommend.

Best OTA DVR for Apple TV/Roku users
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
There is NOT a perfect OTA DVR. BUT this one is close. Very, very close.
First, it’s an app accessed DVR, not direct access via TV. Which means you are going to need an Apple TV (4K, 4th gen), firestick, or Roku to connect to the DVR to set it up and watch your content.
I’m using an Apple 4K and a 4th gen. It works FLAWLESSLY. I have heard that the Ruko experience is good. And the Firestick experience is... well... not good. Your mileage may vary.
Second, it does NOT have onboard storage. You will have to provide that. Personally, I went with a WD BLue SATA 1TB laptop hard drive. It screws in the bottom of this unit, unseen. Works perfectly. You can use an USB external drive but that’s another power source, another box. I didn’t want to mess with that.
Third, it is possible to connect the Tablo to your streaming device via WiFi on the same network. It works. I have both my Apple TV and the Tablo plugged into the same switch on my home network system. It is screaming fast and works perfectly.
Others have mentioned that setting up the Tablo is difficult. It’s not that difficult IF you install your hard drive, attach the atenna, plug into the network. THEN power it all on. Worked perfectly.
Subscription notes: you can either pay $5/month or $50/year OR $150/lifetime for the Tablo Subscription service. It is not necessary to have the service to run the DVR, record shows.
However - couple of things to know. The service allows you to see and program up to 2 weeks in advance. The subscription also comes with the Commercial Skip feature and will allow you to watch your DVR content remotely. So...you get a lot of bang for your buck with the service.
I highly recommend for those who watch a lot of sports OR network television.
