What an exceptional picture. It's one of the very best underdog/inspirational movies of all time.
Sony has done a marvelous job with this Blu-ray release. The picture quality is now the absolute finest the movie has ever looked. I highly recommend it. I double dipped.

The movie looks great for it to be 35 years old, and it looks like the studio did its best to clean up the picture; however, there is so much one can do with these films. You will see a grainy image here and there, but keep in mind that this is an old movie getting the UHD treatment. The only gripe I have with it is the lack of extras. There is one featurette with Martin Kove (Kreese), William Zabka (Lawrence), and main man Ralph Macchio (LaRusso) that is under 11 minutes talking about their experiences during the film. Coincidentally, all three are in Cobra Kai (the series), and LaRusso sort of plugs the show for a second. Other than that, the theatrical trailer that if anything, will give you a clear comparison of the UHD film, versus HD (at best, as the quality of the trailer is way lower than the film itself). Must buy? You bet, especially if you grew up on this stuff, and you have the equipment to take advantage of the film quality.

The movie that started it all… before it became the home alone series. A very good film with a great story and message behind it, worth watching if you’re into some martial arts movies or for those who look for the inspiration behind the kung fu panda series

Still Works After 35 Years

The Karate Kid holds its own after 35 years by its stars, Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita ands its director John G. Avildsen (the director of Rocky).
The transfer looks good, but not great. What is great, however, is the new Dolby Atmos soundtrack.
The bad news is that they do not make films like this anymore that are character-based. Hollywood today prefers big-budget action films.
The Karate Kid remains true to its story and rewards viewers who still want to see a solid drama . Purchase this film--you won't be sorry.

Such an amazing film that’s made even better by a 4K UHD upgrade. Not only are the visuals the best they’ve ever been, but the sound is pure perfection, especially with Bill Conti’s iconic score.
The release comes with the 4K disc, the regular blu ray on a second disc, and a digital redemption code. With the 35th anniversary, this set is packed with over 1.5 hours of special features and behind the scenes bits. If you’re a fan of this movie or even if you’re seeing it for the first time, THIS is the version to own!

I have read a lot of reviews on this before I bought it. Most said it was great. I have the blu-ray and it looked good. The 4k at first viewing i thought it looked darker than the blu-ray but that happens from time to time. It still has heavy grain but it has always looked like that. I didn't see a huge change but I did see improvements in the final fight scene. Don't get me wrong, the movie looks great for its age, but it just wasn't a huge improvement over the blu-ray. I will say the second time I watched it, it was not as dark as I thought. Maybe just a hair darker than the blu-ray in dark scenes.

A bonafide 80's classic. When you think of top 80's movies, you think of RoboCop, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, ET, The Goonies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and THE KARATE KID! In fact, I doubt few would argue with me if I called The Karate Kid one of the best movies ever made. I won't lie, some parts of the movie are quite dated. However, the central premise and message of the movie are timeless. Check it out!

Synopsis: Celebrate the 35th anniversary of the coming-of-age classic — from Academy Award®-winning director (1976, Rocky) John G. Avildsen — that will leave you cheering! There is more to karate than fighting. This is the lesson that Daniel (Ralph Macchio), a San Fernando Valley teenager, is about to learn from a most unexpected teacher: Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat " Morita in his Academy Award®-nominated performance [Best Supporting Actor, 1984]), an elderly handyman who also happens to be a master of the martial arts. His training and these vital lessons will be called into play when an outmatched Daniel faces Johnny, the skilled leader of the Cobra Kai — a vicious gang of karate school bullies — in a no-holds-barred karate tournament for the championship of the Valley.

You've most likely seen Karate Kid, but if you haven't, it's long considered one of the all time great underdog stories.
This new release is, like almost all of Sony's bluray and 4K releases, top notch and the best this film has ever looked or sounded. The Dolby Atmos is great without being TOO revisionist, and the visual presentation is beautiful and organically filmic.

What can I say about The Karate Kid that hasn't already been said? Its a great story with great characters and is a stone cold classic. This 4K Blu-ray is from a new 4K digital restoration and it looks amazing! The film grain is intact but never too intrusive, definition is crystal clear, and HDR makes the 80s colors pop. Atmos is clear and clean. Highly recommended!

Wax on wax off. This Movie is one of the best movies brought out in the 1980s. It has a little bit of everything and the new 4K release is absolutely exceptional. I would recommend this movie to any movie collector or karate fan. This movie is absolutely a must on for anyone growing up in the 80s

Movie is great - a classic from the mid-'80s. That was never going to be any issue. Sure, the special features were a bit lacking, but also not the end of the world.
What was the problem was that the picture is a little dark. Not sure if it's a brightness or contrast issue, but it's definitely darker than it should be. It was a little distracting to me, and certainly disappointing, as I felt the blu-ray version looks better for this reason.

Not speaking to the quality of the film as I grew up with it and thus, I’m completely biased, the 4K transfer looks pristine. If you love the film, do the upgrade from BR. Also, the new featurette is nice, but ultimately pointless.

Karate Kid is probably my favorite movie of all time. So many life lessons taught is this well-written classic. Growing up in the 80s, I thought Mr. Miyagi was wiser than Yoda. A great movie made even better on 4K!

Watching this again has given resilience to the meaning of the little guy underdog! Clarity is so much better. The karate is more defined. Adds better realism. Loved watching him kicking B..t!

I know it has the cheesy 80s look and feel but its a great movie. It DID NOT deserve a remake. It had a lot of heart, some humor, and a great mentor. You've failed your kids if you haven't shown them Karate Kid

This movie was great! I liked getting to know both Mr. Miyagi and Daniel better during the movie and seeing how the characters changed as the movie progressed. Mr. Miyagi is a really fun character and I love the relationship between him and Daniel.

Who doesn't love the original Karate Kid?? I saw this in the theaters when I was 10 and remember all the kids at school doing the crane kick! Picture quality is top notch on this 4k UHD blu-ray.
