There's a lot of resentment out there that Peter Jackson is money grabbing with multiple versions of the film over a period of time. While I agree that it is a lame money grab, the fact remains that this extended edition is gorgeous visually and the sound is likewise well done. Enjoyed it on our projector/screen with surround. Have yet to enjoy all of the MANY extras included. Well worth it. Was the first watch on our new HT system. Now we wait for the lesser quality Hobbit Trilogy...

I've been a LOTR fan since I was a kid and I have all the extended editions but I never got around to getting it on blu-ray. I'm so glad I finally did because it's a totally new experience watching it in hi-res. I've read other reviews where people had issues with the coloring of their blu-ray versions but I didn't have any problems with mine. Also, I bought mine in store and Best Buy price matched for me so I got it cheaper than the listed price. Love LOTR and love BB! :)

The Lord of the Rings extended version trilogy on blu-ray is a must-own for fans of this movie series and The Hobbit. Each movie contains additional footage beyond that of the extended DVD versions, plus behind-the-scenes featurettes. The recent price drop makes this too good a deal to pass up!

I can't believe it took me so many years to see these... I've always been a fan, but never pulled the trigger on the extended editions.... Big mistake. If you are a fan of the books and felt a little let down by parts of the films, rest assured, this version fills all the holes you felt. Flow is greatly improved, much more back story, and includes a few of the songs as well. A must buy for any fan. My ONLY gripe that keeps me from 5 stars is that the films are so huge that they take up two Blu-Ray disks each. Kind of distracting when you are fully immersed in the world and have to get thrown back into reality to get up and switch the disk...

This collection contains the extended edition of all three films. Each film is split into two discs, which means that you have to change the disc in the middle of each movie. This happens at a natural stopping point giving you the option of continuing the movie or taking a break. There is a lot of bonus material, I haven't even finished watching the bonus material for the first film. For fans of the series this is a must buy, especially at the sale price.

Amazing series definitely one of my favorites. This set is beautifully made looks really good in a collection of DVD's. There are amazing features on how they converted the book into movies and great commentary. I've barely even scratched the surface and am excited to delve deeper. The price was a bit steep but luckily I got it on black Friday for 50$ so I couldn't help not buying it lol.

What more to say but buy if your a huge lord of the rings fan

I've wanted this set for a long time and finally purchased it. I was extremely happy with the set. Extended editions of the movies add a lot of great scenes to the movies. The bonus features are on DVD, not blu-ray, but still are good. The set comes in a nice looking box, kept closed magnetically. It arrived quickly and it great condition.

From the very first time I watched this trilogy, I was hooked! The first movie may seem a little slow to some, but really moves quickly in films 2 & 3. The price for all three was great (I got it at 50% off), so how could I not purchase this on blu-ray? Stunning quality for pictures, and the discs all come in a nice, collectable box. Overall, would highly recommend.

What a complete informative addition for those interested in the layers of creativity associated in the making of the lord of the lord of the rings trilogy supplied on multiple commentary dvds. New revelations in the movies themselves reveal needed understanding. Great extended trilogy version to own!

Seriously just buy this if you’re a fan of the movies. The complete experience except maybe the 4k HDR version but then again that has the “hdr colors” which is in my opinion “different” from what I seen on the theaters 20yrs ago when the movie came out.

I loved the series, and was looking to get the extended edition on blu-ray, i was pleasantly surprised when i found out the blu-rays added 40 more minutes of film(not a lot really, when divided among the films, but adds little plot points previously missed)

My kids and I have watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy for years. When I created a home theatre room with Blu-ray player, my kids suggested we get the extended edition Blu-ray. We love it!! It adds so much more to the storyline across all 3 movies, further explains cut-down scenes, and surprised us! Really recommend any fan that has seen the original trilogy but not the extended to watch it!

Join Frodo and his friends in this beloved tale between good and evil. The packaging is nice and there's a boatload of content on separate discs, so take that as you will if you're interested in as much content as you can get your hands on. Also LoTR Extended Edition is really the only edition or you're just shorting yourself.

The case is very durable with a magnet on the cover to keep it shut. I love the map of middle earth as you open the cover, and the most I mportant part, the movies, are in individual cases that look beautiful. Included with the movies are hours of bonus footage and cool information about the movies/books and charactors. Would definitely recommend this extended movie set to anyone for a gift, or for personal use!

The Lord of the Rings' films have something for everybody. I'm one of many people who've read the books countless times as a child. I have to say the film series did not disappoint. As an avid reader, I always read the books first prior to seeing the movie. sometimes I'm disappointed and sometimes I'm not. The Lord of the Rings' films are a must have for anyone's collection.

Great trilogy, really cool special effects and characters!

The sheer amount of special features is too much not to go for this box set. The packaging is high quality and these are (so far, until 4K restoration) the best discs you'll find for picture/audio quality. This was a Christmas gift for my dad and he'd only ever seen the extended editions on DVD so this was quite the upgrade.

I do not think anyone can write a review about "Lord of the rings" after so many years it came out. For a someone who red the book far before it became a movie it was quite a surprise. The movie was good. The script is not far from the original source. I cannot say anything bad about the cast either. Overall, movie is very good.
