The scenery and backgrounds are so clear and breathtaking in 4k, it almost hurts your eyes. We saw many more details we missed in earlier versions.

The finest set of movies ever created. Peter Jackson's amazing vision of Tolkien's books is so spot on that I wish it could be given six stars.

One of the, if not thee, best motion picture trilogies of our lifetimes and it's all bundled in a super epic content filled box of joy.

Pros: Amazing films, picture is sharp, terrific sound, lots of extras. Cons: No Theatrical version included. The Extended Edition means each film is split between 2 discs, just like the old dvds. (Hey New Line: having to swap discs in the middle of the movie is annoying!) The Appendices and featurettes are in standard definition and spread across 9 discs! (If they're in such a low-density data format, all of the extras could have easily fit onto a single-layer blu-ray disc.) The packaging is a bit lackluster, compared to the dvd Extended Editions. (And for some reason, these standard blu-ray discs are all in black 4K cases.)

I've loved this trilogy since I first saw all three films during their theatrical runs. Glad to get them all on blu-ray for a great price!

I consider this all one movie. Because the book is one big story. This is One of the greatest movies of all time. Just watch it!

These movies are some of the best movies of all time. All three are in the imdb top 100, they sparked tourism to the filming locations in New Zealand, and the incredible cast's range brought Middle-Earth to life. Alas, these films are ubiquitous and if you're shopping for the extended edition, then you've probably come to love them and need more... Yes the extended versions are "extended"a lot. Some by 20ish minutes, to an already 3+ Hr. run time. Others extended by near an hour, but is it ever glorious! The true magic in the extended editions, is the documentaries that accompany each film. They are the most comprehensive records of the making of any film, bar none. You get to experience the life of the film, through the eyes of its cast members, its artists, its producers. They rival(perhaps best) the films in run time and are masterfully created. If you want to learn about making a film, watch these. Forget film school, and watch these. Live them, emulate them. The bluray release, is of far better quality than the original DVD. This bluray isn't tack sharp all of the time, which to my mind, leads to a very pleasing dream-like quality. There is scarce an image that isn't a master shot, or one that could serve as a dissertation of the medium. The sound track is equally impressive and the fidelity of the bluray is sufficient. At the moment, these are the best versions of the film available to the public. Highly recommend them.

I gifted this to my mother for Christmas and she loved it! She and I love the cover for it and all. Great movie collection.

Obviously the movies were already very long, and longer still with the extended cut. But they are so good. Love this series.
