Since I bought these a long time ago on DVD, I need to upgrade to blu ray. Very happy! Amazing experience!

The extended version adds a lot of depth and brings in things from the books that were left out. Definitely worth it!

It is very difficlut to discuss this movie package without referring to the books. The movie is very well made in its own right and if you have never read the books, this would be an incredible movie set to enjoy. Having read the books and knowing what was cut out of the movie, at times, really distracts from that enjoyment and weakens the plot in places. Mr. Jackson and company gathered together an exemplary cast, surely they would have been able to perform the missing material. On its own, this movie set does a lot of justice to the books, but can leave you wanting more of the written words turned into screen material. Best Buy's service was fantastic and quick, the price was good, the blu-ray quality (video and audio) is outstanding.

Totally worth the amount of money paid for it. One box set to rule them all, love rewatching the movies again.

Great Blu Ray with extended content. Great price, quality and a great addition to your movie collection.

All three LOTR films speak for themselves, and are not really the material for this review. You are probably asking yourself if it is worth it to buy the extended edition set. The answer is yes. You can watch the regular versions of all three films anytime you want on cable TV. The extended editions have almost two hours of extra fully-produced scenes integrated into the three films, and this is content that should NOT be missed. To me, the original theatrical versions don't even flow very well compared to what the extended editions can offer. And beyond the added scenes in the films, there are several hours of extras included as well. Just the behind-the-scenes footage for Fellowship of the Ring is over an hour and a half long! Really entertaining stuff as well. The price is still a bit steep, but it is worth it for the probably 30 hours worth of material you are getting. Just get it during the holidays when it's on sale at Best Buy, you won't regret it.

The additional features and behind the scenes is worth the purchase alone. Just waiting on a 4K remaster.

I won't go into detail about the movies themselves. If your a LOTR fans you already know how great the films are. The extended editions are for sure a bit more for the hardcore fans. Theres plenty of added footage and extended scenes which make them well worthwhile to watch even if you've seen the theatrical versions. All the scenes have been done to the highest standards to match the production quality of the regular finished films so the scenes fit in seamlessly and add to the overall story and experience. The blu ray set it self its extremely well packaged and designed. The cover opens and unfolds and each movie is contained inside in separate black cases which all have multiple discs with hours and hours of extras. Would have been nice if both the theatrical and extended versions were included but not a big deal. The extended versions are well worth the price on their own. If you a fan of the films then I would highly suggest picking up this set. And the blu ray transfers are well done with great sounds and picture. If you do own the DVD set though then no real reason to upgrade unless you really want the improved picture and sound. But other than that this set doesn't contain anything the DVD set doesn't.

I don't think it's necessary for me to review the movies. If you're reading this, you most likely love them and are deciding on what version to buy. The movies BR look and sound fantastic. Some of the CGI understandably shows it's age (2001-3 after all), but I feel the conversion is noticeably better than the original DVDs. Theatrical versions aren't included, but real fans prefer the extended versions, so that's no loss. I don't mind extras being on DVD either. It's a different experience than feature films that's fully enjoyable in standard def. What surprised me was how nicely it's packaged. All 15 discs fit in 3 standard sized bluray cases fully enclosed in an attractive box held shut by magnets, a very elegant design not wasting shelf space. The other surprise is how far below MSRP BB sold it to me for.

One of my favorite trilogy I watch them on a long weekend and when the weather is really bad.
