This is a great device for NAS storage and also cloud access storage. Utilizing the WD apps for my iPhone, I have been able to access my storage when away from my home network. The only downside that is preventing me from giving this 5 stars, is the WD software. When I downloaded the software that allows easy access from my home computers, I noticed the next day that the software was utilizing all of the cpu and causing the slow response times. As soon as I uninstalled the software, the computer was performing normally. I have had this issue with other WD software also.

My old WD World Book died so I needed a new NAS. I checked multiple sites and 2TB seemed like a good size for my needs.
I price matched with Bestbuy online for the best deal.
Pros:
Easy installation; plug it in and web access is up (once you figure out the IP it is using)
The web Interface lets you easily configure users/shares update firmware.
Supports ssh (once you enable it)
you can rsync/scp files to the box
Private and Public shares available
USB port on the device so you can add more storage (I haven't used it yet)
Cons:
No linux client (there is a Mac and Windows client)

Purchased the My Cloud to back up my Apple computers. Product works very well, and installation was very easy. We have several computers linked to the product, and can also access the cloud from work. The My Cloud is also easily stored and has a very sleek look.

Works well, might be slightly slow, but some of that could be WiFi connection. Has enough space for family of 4 and was easy to set up.

The disk drive itself is highly rated for reliability and is a good price for the amount of storage. I wanted to use this device for backup of multiple PCs and once setup this happens automatically withoiut a problem. getting the drive connected to my home network was easy. it was not obvious however what software needed to be downloaded from the WD site to enable all the functionality. I think someone with less PC software experience may become frustrated.

Worked fine from the start, setup took a while, as it wasn't clear what software from the website would be used. But backed up my PC right away without issues. WDMyCloud for PC takes a few hundred megabytes without doing much. Remote access for Android seems much better. I set up FTP for remote access instead, though it would have been nice if they provided a SECURE version.
Still have to try WD Photo, sounds like it will do what we want, backing up photos and making them available on the PC and Kindle Fire.

I researched this device prior to buying, and even called support to ask questions. One question I asked was whether or not you could limit the amount of space used by Time Machine, or even partition the drive. They said no. I bought it anyway, and it turned out that the answer should have been yes. I might have bought a larger one had I known.
But all that aside, setup was very easy, and it works flawlessly. Its fast, and quiet, and I am very satisfied with the purchase.

My previous NAS suddenly died and the WD - My Cloud seemed to be the best option and after using it for a couple weeks it has been working great and I am very happy with it.
Transfer speeds are fast and it runs cool and quiet.
Works great with Linux, Android and Windows and has a nice clean browser based NAS management interface.
I just wish it was available in black so it would blend in with the rest of the computer devices on my desk.

Great product. I like the fact that it's your own cloud and it's protected by a password on your own WiFi that only I can access. I bought the 2TB, and so far I've only stored some photos on it. Easy to use too.

This is an easy way to back-up files via WiFi, without all the wires and hassle. It also is your own Cloud, not some mysterious Cloud out in the world wide web. I can sync this 2TB drive with my laptop.

I bought this device for work, but I plan on buying one for home. There was a little more complex set up with the firewalls from work, but after a little effort it works great. I did get a defective device the first time but I placed one phone call to the trouble shooting at WD and then returned to Best Buy without any problems.

Great product--does more than an external drive

I found this when looking for an external hard drive on which to store old files for my law firm. It serves that purpose but actually goes beyond that as a NAS (network attached server). The drive shows up on the network if it's plugged into the router (or switch) via an Ethernet cable. Any computer plugged into the router can then see the device and use it as a drive, so the drive functions as a server. (With a PC, it shows up as a network device.)
Also, through the MyCloud service, it can be set up so that you can access it remotely over the internet. You just log on, and then you can see the drive and its contents. This feature allows you to, for example, access files at work from home. Setup took only minutes and was incredibly easy. Cost is about the same as any 2TB external hard drive (which I bought), so the extra capabilities of the device are basically free--or close to free. It's a great product.

I returned a 1tb Passport Ultra to pick up this unit so that I could use it with all of the computers in my house at any given moment. I have not utilized the cloud features of it, yet. I was able to load a couple of episodes of shows to the publicly shared folders and stream them wirelessly to my DLNA certified TV. So far, I'm very happy with the results. If I had any complaints, it would have been nice if they included an Ethernet cable in the box (not a huge deal as I always have a couple laying around) and I wouldn't mind it having a USB3 connection so that it could be connected directly to a computer for faster file transfer. Not a deal breaker on either account.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Had no issues connecting the device to my router, and syncing and backing up my Mac mini, and a windows based laptop. The programs and apps are a breeze to use. A word of advice if you're using your phone to download a file from this hard drive, make sure your phone can play or display the file. Also, it will use data unless you are connected to wifi. (If that wasn't obvious for some people) I do feel like I should have gone for the 3TB model, but that's more personal preference.

This hard drive is amazing! You can have multiple different users so you won't see other users files. You can also share a common folder if you want to keep things open on different tablets or pc's.
The drawbacks are only two. It loads very slowly compared to other programs I've used for cloud storage. The other problem is that it isn't very user friendly. It takes a lot of getting used to.

I like this storage unit and it easily holds a ton of stuff. My only complain was that installation was a little confusing. They offer a "concierge setup" service that I tried to use. Unfortunately it was some guy overseas that read from a script and had a tough time deviating when I had a question.
