I purchased a new HP desktop computer last September from Best Buy. After 5 months the pc's hard drive failed. Needless to say, Best Buy doesn't help unless you purchased their extended warranty. Even being a Elite rewards member doesn't get you anything. I worked directly with HP and they sent my a replacement hard drive which i replaced myself although i lost 5 months of personal data! So i learned my lesson, backup backup backup! that's why i bought the WDMyCloud. easy to connect and setup and its constantly backing up my personal data. No complaints so far. love that i have access to pictures and music as a cloud device too!

Set up/uploading files was easy to do. I went by the quick set up that came in box but I would recommend viewing online manuel and following those steps.

I don't really like the idea of keeping everything out on the Internet, I do use Microsoft One Drive for some storage however I really like the local because I take a lot of photos and I shoot in RAW much of the time. I have three of these units with a USB-3 2TB drive attached for backup and protection from loss. I could have purchased one very large unit but 2TB seems to be a good compromise for amount of storage and price.
These drives perform very good wired directly to my LAN. They are fast and seem to be very durable - my first unit was purchased three years ago and is still working like the newest one I purchased recently.
Great value for the person who needs lots of storage.

Learned my lesson on back-ups!

Had a devastating hard drive failure a few years ago but was fortunate enough to recover my data. Had never done back-ups and thought I had learned my lesson that time but no. Another hard drive failure a couple months ago and this time data could not be recovered, I lost a lot of important files, especially critical business records. Purchased the 2TB cloud and placed it on network, now I have automatic daily back ups. Not going through this again! Instructions for setting up were a little hard to understand but eventually I figured it out.

The unit is easy to connect for both PC and mobile. Transfers are very slow using WebDAV. FTP is a little more reliable. It's nice that it supports both out of the box. The included backup software is not bad, but it's hard to customize for limited back ups. Overall, it's decent as a backup device, but I wouldn't count on it as a dropbox replacement, other than for mobile use.

I wanted something to backup my computer without much effort on my end and this did the job. I recommend it. I have a PC but had heard Time Machine was good for this purpose if you have an Apple.

Now we can backup everything to one location and not have to even think about it. The install was simple and the response time is even better. I would recommend this for anyone looking to backup important items or just have them available to your smart tv!

Setup on Windows is difficult and networking is a pain. Once it is setup, the drive works as advertised. Very large capacity for short money.

It's a great product. Easy to set up, works pretty quickly. I only have 1 negative: it doesn't seem to wanna sync up with our iPad Mini. It queues files, but never actually uploads them.

This is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Really! It set up easily, and it just works. Some of the complaints in other reviews are addressed in the set up menus. It works as advertised, and is quite responsive. I scan all my fake sheets (music) and have all my music always available on my iPad. Simply amazing! I used it to send documentation to a lender as I'm working on refinancing my home. Sent all the documents within ten minutes. AMAZING! Not a bit of trouble with it. I cancelled all my other 'cloud' accounts and consolidated all my documents and data on this.

I purchased this product to replace an over 10 year old WD World Book. It was easy to set up and now the entire family can share files virtually anywhere. Added features were definitely a bonus as well like back-up and partitions for all registered users. Now we don't have to ask, "Where'd you put .....?"

This is the second WD-My Cloud that I have purchased. Eight months after setting up the last one it died with all my data on it. It WAS the backup so no it was not backed up. This one is and it is available most of the time except when it is not. Then I have to cycle the power to get it back up and running. It also seems the have a hard time if I move large groups of files to be be copied to it at one time; it freezes up. Still this drive seems to be the best and easiest to set up in a limited field of similar products.

I gave this only 4 stars because it lacks good instructions. Was easy to install and had no problem syncing with other devices. But need to find instructions to make sure it is copying and storing my photos and files. Still trying to learn how to use. But for the price and WD is a great product, I feel confident that once I get the hang of backing up my files, I will love it. WD just needs to include better instructions on how it works.

Purchased the drive to act as a NAS to store HD Homerun DVR recordings. Very easy to set up. Plug in to a network switch. Attach the power then connected via a web browser. Set up SSH and voila. No issues with the dive. It just sits there doing its job with no issues.

I needed storage for a lot of large photos and music that I could access from anywhere with my iPad mini, my iPhone, my PC laptop and my PC tablet. Now everything can be stored in one place, and I can access it all no matter where I am as long as I have an internet connection. Although I have not set it up to do so yet, I will be able to share folders with others if I choose to give them access. It was very easy to set up.

I am able to access my files from anywhere which is nice. Software could be a little better and the WD Sync software doesn't always seem to sync the right files.
