Drive failed after 1 1/2 years of use.

I purchased the 2 TB drive in October of 2014 (P/N: WDBCTL0020HWT). During this time I did not have any issues. Then, without warning, it failed on me. Now it's a brick and I can't get to my data. The estimate I got from one of WD's preferred partners for the retrieval of my data was $800 - $2,900. If you purchase this product (or any other hard drive for that matter), be sure to keep frequent back-ups on multiple devices.

I use this external HD as part of my backup system, as well as store archival files and folders. Works well for that. I do not the WD tools that come w/ the drive.

This is NOT a long term storage device

I purchased and installed this unit 2 weeks ago. It works great. But then I noticed that it never stops running. The hard drive is constantly running, constantly making the traditional growling sound that external drives make, and constantly warm since the motor never stops turning. This is not good. For 2 weeks now, the motor has not stopped running. It's on my desk, so even though the noise is quiet, it becomes annoying after hours of hearing it. I finally contacted WD Tech Support yesterday and received a response from Karl in Service. He said that if I have the remote functionality turned on, the drive will not enter sleep mode and will run continuously. This is its normal function and the only way to stop it is to eliminate the "Cloud" function of the unit. Eliminating the Cloud function just makes this unit an over priced normal external hard drive. However, a hard drive that runs continuously 24/7 is not going to last. Therefore, the Cloud functionality of this device may be a cool novelty and some may have a specific use for it, but it is not practical to be used as a storage unit. Compared to traditional direct connect storage units, this one is very slow due to the wireless functionality. We are willing to put up with the slow speed because of the benefit of the cloud. However, now that using the cloud is not an option, this really is just an over priced and slow storage unit. I really thought it was cool until I realized this. Very disappointed.

I feel I'm pretty computer savvy. However it wasn't as easy to set up as I was led to believe. I ended up having to call their online support to walk me through setting up remote access. In general the drive works fine once I got through that hurdle.

Nice concept, but inconsistent in accessibility

When it works, it's a great product, but the MyCloud drives suffer from regular and highly annoying access issues when used as a true NAS and are connected to a router. Whether trying to save in a file through an application, be it on a Mac or Windows machine, or trying to access files through Finder or File Explorer, this product suffers from consistent inability to access the drive, forcing computer reboots and/or router and/or drive restarts. I find that because I work from home, it's a multiple time per day scenario on most days, and it's very annoying. After using a 2TB drive for a couple of years now, my patience for this idiosyncrasy has waned enough I no longer would recommend the drive.

Western Digital has come out with a great cloud device for home network storage, the write speeds are lightning quick, installation is very intuitive and easy , build and appearance of the device are very good, pricing is very reasonable at $140 for a 2TB model, very nice app for connecting to android tablets, overall an excellent storage device

I found this product by accident and it turned out to be the perfect solution for my needs. I am able to store files to this cloud drive and access from any computer in my home and from my mobile devices when away from home. It's great being able to access files quickly from my cell phone.

I have spent several hours trying to get this device to connect to my Iphone remotely. There is no feedback oh what is causing the problem, there is no support on the WD website. On the LAN the cloud works, but when I upload pictures from my Iphone it resets the date code and gives them random names. The picture uploads are out of order when viewed through the wd photo app or my PC. If you want to preserve date information you will still have to connect your phone to your PC.

    Terribly Slow

this drive is horrible. its not worth the money I spent for it. I needed emergency storage because all our devices, laptops, phones and tablets were all filled with data. I was hoping this would be a great way for my family to store all our media in one location and everyone can access it. we wanted to move files from our devices to the hard drive and it took 16hrs to move less than 200GB of data over WiFi. altogether we have about 1TB of data so I cant imagine how many days its going to take me to do this over WiFi since the drives DOES NOT even come with a USB cable so I'll have to buy one separately. I'm a very computer literate person and I found setting up this drive to be a pain. the UI seems old and out dated., like something you'd see from the late 90's or early 2000's. its so horribly slow that it literally takes about 10 seconds for anything to respond after you click on it. the app is even worse, on average I can count to 20 before I can see anything. I cant even partition it which is just dumb. Im so glad I did not have $200+ to buy the 4TB which is the one I really wanted--for such poor performance I would have been quite angry having wasted so much money. needless to say that my next WiFi drive will NOT be one from WD. they are a brand I no longer trust when it comes to WiFi drives.

The cloud drive and its features are pretty awesome, but the documentation provided is very poor. The WD technician is was on the phone with for 2 hours agreed that the documentation needed a lot of improvement. Once he helped me get it setup, I love it!

Password settings did not work, viewiings files is very very slow, tech support hard to understand and cause more frustrating rephrasing my words to simple sentences that cause headaches, I was more upset when the tech support hotline was trying to up sell me support for a full year after I just purchase the product (felt it should of been included, especially if they have confidence in there product), this will be my last time I purchase a product from Western Digital and I'm also a person that hates to return things especially to Best Buy, but I felt robbed and thought it would be best that I write a review on this product on Bestbuy.com website to inform other shoppers...

lost all data in 48 hours from purchase

Got the unit on wednesday. Moved over 500GB of music, 300GB of Photos and another 500GB of movies. Everything was instantly viewable from the iphone app and from the PS3. after a day of use, the unit ran sluggish. It acted as though there was activity but nothing was connected to the device. Turned off my network (router etc), the ps3 and both iphones. you could still hear the units HD processing data. Opened the browser utility, went to the utility feature, selected reboot. Unit Bricked. All data lost. it blinked a white front light for 24 hours and never restarted. Unplugged and fan cooled it an hour. Tried again. browser would not access. took it back. Had for 3 days. swapped it our for the seagate version. we'll see how that goes

Initially I was very impressed with this hard drive. However, after about 8 months it died and to WDs credit, they replaced it at no charge. Now 8 months later again the replacement has bit the dust. Very unfortunate because the software platform is very good. However, because of their short life span I cannot recommend this product.
