I "upgraded" from a 7900x to a 7800x3D and bottom line is that it was the right move. I gave up some cores/threads and some clock speeds which will likely affect rendering or compressing massive zip files or something no doubt,...but I'm gaming in VR and that's what you are looking for if you are reading this. The short version is that I have a RTX4090 that I thought was running wide open...until I got this CPU and it opened it. I could hit 80, 90, 120FPS depending on the game and some settings, but the difference is in the latency which cause microstutters which are insanely hard to nail down (or so I thought). Turns out it was the CPU and no matter what I did in terms of tweaking and OC'ing and undervolting the 7900x (basically months of tweaking on and off) vs. opening the case, installing this CPU and resetting the BIOS and it just worked. Another side effect that I didn't care about when I was looking was the power draw...if it doesn't perform well I am not going to give it good marks because it is underpowered. With that said this thing sips power compared to the old one which is nice because it keeps heat down. I'm water cooled so the old CPU never overheated (they throttle on their own anyway), but I'm running wide open and I don't think that the fans on the cooler ever get to full speed. I'll take it not going deaf or being in a sauna while I'm running smoother.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Review: A Gaming Beast with a Few Quirks Alright, so I’ve been using the Ryzen 7 7800X3D for a while now, and let me tell you—this thing is an absolute monster for gaming. If you’re looking for a CPU that’s going to crush frames in your favorite games, this might just be the one. But, like anything, it’s not perfect. Let me break it down for you. The Good Stuff: Gaming Performance is Insane First off, the 3D V-Cache on this thing is no joke. AMD took their already-great Ryzen 7000 series and slapped on that extra cache, and wow, does it make a difference. In games that love cache (think big open-world titles or simulation games like Microsoft Flight Simulator or Cyberpunk 2077), this CPU just shines. I’m talking buttery-smooth frame rates, even at higher resolutions. It’s like the CPU knows exactly what the game needs before it even asks. And the best part? It’s crazy efficient. Compared to some of the higher-core-count CPUs out there, the 7800X3D doesn’t draw a ton of power, which means it runs cooler and quieter. My cooling setup isn’t anything fancy—just a decent air cooler—and it handles this chip like a champ. Multitasking? Yeah, It’s Got You Covered Now, I know you’re not just gaming. Neither am I. I’ve got Chrome tabs open, Discord running, maybe a stream or two in the background, and this CPU doesn’t even break a sweat. The 8 cores and 16 threads are more than enough for everyday multitasking and even some light content creation. If you’re into streaming or video editing, it’ll handle that too, though it’s not quite as fast as some of the higher-end CPUs like the 7900X or 7950X. But for gaming-first folks? Perfect. The Not-So-Good: It’s Not a Productivity Powerhouse Here’s the thing—if you’re looking for a CPU to do heavy video editing, 3D rendering, or other workstation tasks, the 7800X3D might not be your best bet. Don’t get me wrong, it’s capable, but it’s really optimized for gaming. Those extra cores and threads on something like the 7900X or Intel’s i7-13700K will give you better performance in productivity tasks. So, if you’re a creator first and a gamer second, you might want to look elsewhere. The Price: A Little Steep, But Worth It (For Gamers) Let’s talk money. The 7800X3D isn’t cheap, but honestly, for what it delivers in gaming performance, it’s a fair price. It’s not the most affordable option out there, but if you’re building a high-end gaming rig and want the best of the best, this is a solid investment. Plus, it’s way more power-efficient than some of the competition, so you’ll save a bit on your electricity bill in the long run. The Quirks: A Few Things to Keep in Mind Okay, so it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There are a couple of quirks you should know about: It’s Picky About RAM: Like most Ryzen CPUs, the 7800X3D loves fast RAM. If you’re pairing it with slower memory, you’re leaving some performance on the table. Aim for DDR5-6000 or higher if you can. Overclocking? Not Really: If you’re an overclocking enthusiast, this might not be the chip for you. The 3D V-Cache doesn’t play nice with traditional overclocking, so you’re pretty much stuck with stock speeds. That said, it’s so fast out of the box that you probably won’t even care. Platform Costs: Since it’s on the AM5 platform, you’ll need a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM if you’re upgrading from an older system. That can add up, so keep that in mind when budgeting. Final Thoughts: Who’s It For? If you’re a hardcore gamer who wants the best possible performance without going overkill (looking at you, 7950X3D), the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is an easy recommendation. It’s fast, efficient, and absolutely dominates in games. But if you’re more of a content creator or need a CPU for heavy multitasking, you might want to consider something with more cores. For me? It’s been a dream. My games run smoother than ever, and I haven’t had to worry about bottlenecks or slowdowns. If you’re building a gaming-focused PC, this CPU deserves a spot on your shortlist.

I recently picked up a 7800X3D and a 7950X3D from Best Buy (along with an MSI X670e elsewhere) to compare against my 12900k rig which is running P-Cores only at 5.2ghz and an MSI Liquid Suprim X 4090 which auto boosts to ~2820mhz right out of the box. I primarily play WoW Dragonflight and Fallout 76 4k max details. Th 7800X3D and MSI x670e Carbon are paired with 2x DDR5 M-dies at 6000 manually tuned to CL30-36-36-30 along with tuned secondary and turn around timings. Fclk tops out at 2100. CPU was cooled with an EVGA CLC 360 and KPx using the AM4 mounting. My 12900k is 5.2 P-Cores locked running on an Asus Strix Z690 D4 with 2x16GB DDR4 B-dies tuned to Gear 1 4000 CL15-17-17-34 and tight secondary timings. For anyone wondering about DDR5, I had previously picked up a Z690 Unify-X DDR5 and tuned 2x A-die to 7400 (where my CPU maxed out) to see if it would give me better performance than my DDR4 setup and it at best matched my Gear 1 4000 DDR4 but at worst more often than performed worse so I stuck with my DDR4 setup. CPU was cooled using an Arctic Freezer LF II 420 with the 1700 mounting and KPx. I did a flight point run from the tip of the Isles and back again along with a run around Valdrakken main city (which is known to tank performance) for each setup. All data logged with MSI AB. Short run is Valdrakken. Long run is flight across the Isles and back. The 7800X3D is the clear winner for my needs and as always you should make sure to check how your games and setup runs but the difference is enough for me to give the nod to an upgrade. Gaming the 7800X3D for WoW and Fallout 76 runs about 43c tops and pulls less than 50w which is great. Running something CPU intensive like Cinebench R23 all core, it tops out at 80c and pulls ~90w which is just fantastic. This is a fantastic gamers CPU that runs incredibly low power and cool. If you're looking for a buildout that delivers top notch performance (again check your games played and use scenario), the 7800X3D is a potential monster. All data was collected after updating the BIOS to the newest version from MSI which addresses the AMD CPU problems and overvolting issue.

From the moment I installed the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D in my rig, I knew I was in for a treat. This processor is a game-changer, literally and figuratively. With its 8 cores and 16 threads, it breezes through multitasking and heavy workloads with ease. But where it truly shines is in gaming. The 3D V-Cache technology is nothing short of revolutionary, providing a massive 96MB of L3 cache that catapults gaming performance to new heights. I’ve seen frame rates soar, and games run smoother than ever before, even on the most demanding titles. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D isn’t just about raw power; it’s about smart, efficient performance that gamers and creators can rely on. What’s more, the processor maintains impressive energy efficiency, ensuring that my system stays cool and quiet, even when pushing the limits. The support for PCI Express 5.0 future-proofs my setup, readying me for the next generation of hardware. While it’s true that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D doesn’t support DDR4 memory and the AM5 ecosystem can be a bit pricey, the trade-off is more than worth it for the performance gains. This CPU is competitively priced and often outperforms its more expensive counterparts, making it an excellent value for anyone looking to build a high-performance gaming PC. In conclusion, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D earns a well-deserved 5 stars from me. It’s the fastest gaming chip I’ve used, and it has taken my gaming and productivity to the next level. If you’re in the market for a new CPU, look no further – the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the one you want.

Very efficient and easy to cool. I upgraded from s 5900x to the 7800x3d for a more consistent frame rate and lower temps. It's temps run around the 60s in gaming performance with a 360mm aio, but does reach 86 with CB23 all core running @ 5GHZ. It consumes about 66W with gaming and 99W under full load. I'm using the asus X670E-E and was worried about the voltages, but fortunately the have not peaked over the 1.3V that has been causing issues. Their 7800x3d OC runs it at 5.2 GHZ. Paired with the same 4080, I've seen a little bump in FPS, but those nasty 1% lows are in a much better place. Less hiccups and more enjoyment. Its a good little chip for gaming, it would be great for ITX and air cooled builds. It does what it is supposed to do, but with so much headroom, it would be nice to have higher clock speeds. There's also no need to fiddle with other apps to make it work like the other X3D chips. It just works. It's great for gaming and general use.

I upgraded from my previous CPU, and I'm extremely impressed with the efficiency and cooling performance. With a 360mm AIO cooler, temperatures stay in the 60s during gaming, and it only consumes about 66W while gaming and 99W under full load. I bought this processor specifically for gaming performance, and I'm completely satisfied with the results. The most noticeable improvement is in the 1% lows, which means less stuttering and performance drops during intense gaming moments. Would I Recommend? Absolutely! If you're a serious gamer looking for the best possible performance without going overboard, this CPU is an easy recommendation. It's fast, efficient, and dominates in games. Yes! I would recommend this to every friend i have!

The 7800x3d is incredibly fast and is the best gaming cpu on the market. Be warned though that the AMD AM5 platform is still quite new and is currently buggy with some annoying issues and some issues that could potentially cause system failure and damage to hardware. If you aren’t familiar, I recommend looking into the concerns with Expo (The AMD version of XMP) and SOC voltage damaging both motherboards and cpus. If you are an experience PC builder this isn’t as big of a concern as you can manually limit the SOC voltage which should prevent you from encountering any such issues. If you aren’t very comfortable with manually changing voltage, you may want to wait for AM5 to mature and buy the next generation of motherboards/processors or go with Intel instead. With all of that said, this CPU is insane and not only outperforms the Intel 13900k in most games, but it does it while drawing something like 1/4 of the power. Hopefully AMD and their motherboard manufacturers resolve their issue quickly because I would hate to see this incredible CPU overshadowed by their mishandling of recent issues and their seeming inability to resolve potential catastrophic failures in a timely and consumer friendly manner. 5/5 stars for performance, but I’m docking 1 star over the bugs and issues with the AM5 platform.

The 7800x3d is a great option for gaming builds. Besure to select a good cooler to go with it. It is very power friendy. In my opinion it's fairly priced too. Great for pairing with a 4080, 4090, or a 7900 XTX to get the most out of your system!

This is the best gaming CPU with incredible power efficiency. It’s one of the only CPUs to not bottleneck my 4090, but it’s the only one that does so with 40W-50W power consumption while gaming! Intel’s i9 13900K/KS, for example, is often 3% slower while consuming around 150W or even 200W in-game. You can also tune your memory with Buildzoid’s timings that 1. can offer a 5% performance uplift and 2. can run on basically every 6000MT/s kit. Make sure you’re on the latest BIOS, lower your VSOC to < 1.25V and VDDIO/MC < 1.35V. At 6000, most people can run it with < 1.2V and < 1.25V respectively.

The Ryzen 7800x3D as an amazing high end gaming CPU. Recently built a PC and paired it with an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and the performance is insane. Running Hell Divers 2 on a 1440P 240hz display this setup did not drop a single frame below 240, at max settings. And that's only scratching the surface of what this processor can do. CPU Mark score was almost 31,000. Proof can be found in the attached images. If you are planning on building a gaming pc and have the budget for this chip and a high end gpu you will not be disappointed.

I did a lot of reading into this series as I hadn’t built a PC since 2007. Installation was easy and it works flawlessly. I used Bazzite OS and I am not even close to using up resources on this processor while playing high graphic games on Steam.

I couldn't be happier with this beast! I upgraded from a 7600x to pair with my 9070 xt, and the difference it makes in keeping 1% low fps stable at a 130 fps average while playing Cyberpunk on an ultra ray tracing preset at 1440p is just perfect. Temperature wise, i have a really good 360 aio, and under the heaviest gaming load It's never gone above 66c. The only time it ever cracks 70c is when installing a big game file, which the max temp so far has been 74c. While being designed as a gaming cpu, it still handles average daily driving and multi-tasking really well. The most stress I put it under is YouTube streaming while gaming though, so I can't speak to higher end tasks like video editing. Overall, I'm thrilled with it's performance and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who's looking to really solidify their fps lows and and maximize their gaming performance.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D delivers exceptional gaming performance thanks to its 3D V-Cache technology, making it one of the best CPUs for high-FPS gaming. It runs efficiently with low power draw and stays cool under load, even without overclocking. However, it’s not the top choice for heavy productivity workloads compared to similarly priced CPUs

Heard this CPU was a gaming machine I have it paired with a 3070ti and everything has been running smoothly for the past few weeks and it's a big upgrade from my i7 9700k, every game runs buttery smooth that I've tried out including the new Warhammer game running it high settings 2k resolution with dlss on very please would say worth the price if you can buy it close to MSRP :)

After a week of use I can confidently endorse the 7800X3D. There’s a lot of talk of potential risks with this processor but in the configuration I’ve been using (Gigabyte B650M DS3H, Hynix 6000mhz, 280mm Corsair AIO) I haven’t had any problems. After using Ryzen master to plot a per core offset of -35 my cpu is running at a maximum of 1.25v and occasionally boosts to 5.2ghz. Hwmonitor reports temperatures well within tolerances and staying away from the thermal maximum. Gaming performance is why I bought this processor and I’ve been satisfied with the results I’ve seen. It really improves on 1% lows which translates to less hitching and performance degradation during intense taxing moments. Overall it’s a well performing and exceptionally power efficient bleeding edge processor. It’s going to take a while before there will be a GPU that will be held back by this cpu.

When I bought this for 380 bucks or so, I got scared an thought i shouldve gotten the 13900k. Man I was wrong. This cpu rips through any cpu heavy game, i recommend matching it with a 7800xt or a 5070, but this cpu does all the work. You will need an AIO to run this cpu because it runs hot, but with the 360 mm aio i got from corsair, i have had 0 issues with heat. Best cpu of all time

I decided on this CPU after deciding to jump ship from a buggy 13900kf and Asus mobo. Beyond happy with the performance so far. Plus the price was right. Have been averaging about 10-20 fps higher than my intel processor.

this chip is the best consumer-level productivity and gaming cpu out there at maximum efficiency. i run this thing with a standard dual tower air cooler and it never heats up beyond 80 degrees celsius. definitely worth the extra money over the 7800x3d if you want the best of both worlds!

runs really fast, low wattage, and good temps. overall just satisfied with the product. upgraded from the 5700x3d and the difference was massive despite only having a 4070.

For anyone on the fence with older AM4 cpus, its 100% worth the switch. I've been using Ryzen since the launch with a 1700x, then the 3700x and now the 7800x3d. The jump from 3700x to 7800x3d was about 35% performance increase across the board, way higher 1%s, a overall smoother experience even before hitting games that truly utilitize the 3d cache. I'm pinched with a RTX 3070, so there is A LOT of headroom to be had with this CPU for me. Easily set up in a Gigabyte X670 Aorus board, 32gb was fighting but eventually i got the CL30 6000mhz speed. Its relatively cool with A old DH-15, using the offset bracekets as well. This CPU has been a monster between gaming, rendering, blender and unreal engine usage.
