After nine years, it was time to replace our home computer. I took my wife to Best Buy to look at the options, and we were unimpressed with all the new Windows 8.1 desktops. We didn't want a big clunky desktop or a touchscreen-type, all-in-one computer. After looking at the Macs, we were impressed, but the prices were high. This Mac Mini being the cheapest way to get into a new Mac, we did it and have been very impressed. It's been an easy transition for me and my wife, and it's faster than the specs would seem to indicate it should be.

Overall looks Great! Performance, with the included 5400RPM Hard Drive it was so sluggish, there was no way this thing could perform reasonably for what I needed it for. I am currently schooling for IOS Development and the drive was just to slow. I installed an 500GB SSD the same day and it sped this little guy right up. It's a great little machine now, it won't be editing massive photos, or editing 4k video or even 1080 easily but it's an awesome little machine.

i needed an inexpensive apple desktop at home. i don't need anything powerful. i have a PC with X99 hexacore desktop and a 2016 macbook pro. i just need a daily driver at home that's not windows. this macmini is a bare minimum with a slow hard drive, non-upgradeable 4GB ram, and 1.4GHz i5 dual core haswell CPU. so if you can accept those specs in 2017, then you're good as gold. the CPU is 1.4GHz but it does turbo up to 2.7GHz. but it is dual core. i will be doing some photoshop editing and some iMovie video editing. i will be doing some podcast recording as well. nothing too serious. i will be doing some web development with homebrew, phpstorm, and mysql. it should handle it. i was able to develop using a 2015 macbook retina - although that has twice the ram but a less capable CPU. besides, between haswell and skylake, the "improvements" are not significant to the average user... power consumption? sure but it's a mac mini. no battery life and it's always plugged in. more powerful? then why look at the mac mini? the 4GB ram is soldered and cannot be upgraded. but macOS and 4GB of ram is running well. i did see some lag with Mail app downloading emails for the first time, installing an app, and chrome running 4 tabs. i just closed everything but Mail and let it finish synchronizing and went on my business afterwards. it's not a speed demon, don't get me wrong. again, for the average person, it's good enough. don't go too crazy with multi-tasking. the CPU is capable but you could use up your ram quick. finally, the best you can do to improve the performance is the hard drive. it's not too bad i guess. read and write is around 105MB/s. but you can purchase a 2.5" USB3 enclosure and add a SSD. i had a samsung 830 256GB lying around. i got 326MB/s write and 340MB/s read. it tripled the performance and i didn't need to open up the mac mini. just hold down apple, option, R during boot up and it will connect to the internet. then you format the drive and install macOS from the internet. i used double-sided heavy duty tape to keep the enclosure affixed on the computer. you can open it up and replace the hard drive, but i've seen videos... no thanks. i was able to get the open box for $355. i had a $40 gift card as well. good price and condition. i wish apple would allow macOS to be installed on PC hardware (legally and with support).

This is about great product because it’s small and easy to set up. It is just a bit slow to process things so doesn’t run very fast. Priced very well for what you get. It’s an awesome extra computer for home! That’s what I use it for and it’s aqesomw to have all my Apple devices connected.

I bought this as a more permanent storage solution to compliment the macbook, and it replaced a dead Windows desktop. I was able to use my existing display, external drives, keyboard, and mouse, and setup took only minutes. It is a little slower because of the drive, but I will upgrade to SSD soon. For the price, this is the way to go.

This little desktop is a perfect way to get into Mac world. Just the right size and price. This Mac is a great desktop for web browsing and email. It’s not made for serious gamers but you can play a lot of Mac games if you’re inclined to do so. My wife loves it! I highly recommend this Mac Mini.

After installing a SSD this is fast; comparable to the 2012 2.5ghz but a little slower. 4gb memory is enough for basic internet browsing and watching movies. It's when you want to do photo/video editing that this will start to lag or when you have too many applications opened. If you have 4-5 basic apps opened (browser, iphoto, word, etc.) this will run fine. Installing a SSD is a lot more difficult compared to the 2012 model but it is doable. RAM is not upgradeable. Yosemite is a lot more efficient in handling memory and applications compared to Windows.

So this was my first Mac computer after having PCs my entire life. I got this one because the price was right. For $499 it is all if not more then I could have hoped for. It works great as a family computer. All three of my kids have their own login profile that I set individual parental settings on. That was my initial use for the computer but have since started using the computer for music recording and production. With a simple $100 guitar interface I have turned my home computer into a recording studio. Once again I could not be happier with this purchase!!! Highly recommend especially for parents who are looking for an easy to use family computer.

Our 8 yr old iMac was getting obsolete & taking a long time due to the hard drive spinning, wife threatened to throw it out the window, so we went to best buy! Looked at all options, including a dell mini tower. Price was a concern. We ended up getting the Mac mini for a great price, got a new monitor, & used our existing keyboard. Have had it for a month now, & she loves it. Only two issues---1: no speaker (at least that I know if), but we solved that by connecting/pairing our mini jawbone speaker to it. 2: we haven't converted her photo/music library over yet--- wish that was easier to do. Otherwise, it's like having a new Mac without having to pay two grand for it!

It isn't a powerhouse so, expect to do a lot of video editing or anything like that. I bought for my mother-in-law to use for basic web surfing and email and it works great. It was handy because she already had a pc that died so, there was a monitor/keyboard/mouse and we just needed the computer. It's a nice small footprint and it easily syncs with her existing g iPad and iPhone.

I got this Mac because I have an iOS programming course that requires a Mac. This actually works pretty well. I use it almost daily. If you want something fast that you will use every day, then go with the 8GB model as you cannot upgrade the ram in this. Compiling code takes a bit of time, maybe 1 or 2 minutes more than I expected. It does take time to launch programs but nothing horrible. As a secondary computer it does pretty well.

My Apple Mac Mini is a great quite operating unit..Like the idea of a computer CPU in such a small package. The unit operates quietly and efficiently. It seems to give me everything a full size CPU would give me.Apple's Mac Mini is easy to operate and learn to use.Apple products are more expensive than IBM based computer but I believe they are much more dependable.

I had to get something in budget to replace my older mac book pro in a short time frame. Was in the middle of a design project when the old one just quit and wouldn't restart. I already had a monitor so the mac mini was in my budget price range. Not only that, because Best Buy has price match guarantee, I was able to get back $30 since another competitor has the same item but cheaper. Mac mini is working perfectly so far and was easy to install Adobe software and even my wireless printer. No regrets so far.

If you don't mind supplying all of the other stuff ( Monitor, keyboard, etc.), this computer does everything you want it to do for a great price.

I purchased the Mac Mini because, after having an iPad and iPhone for several years, I wanted to get into the Mac world after my previous desktop died. For less than $500, which is by far the least expensive Mac out there, I was able to accomplish that. It come with just the computer and a power cord, which wasn't a problem for me since I already had a mouse, monitor, and keyboard left over from my other computer. So far it does everything I need and it runs smoothly. I'd read in other reviews that it can be a little sluggish but I haven't really seen that (though I admit, I haven't pushed it too hard yet). I've been using it to take an online course and it's been fine with multi-tasking. I also do web-surfing and word processing and haven't had any issues. Overall I would recommend the Mac Mini for anyone who is looking to get into the Mac world but doesn't want to shell out a couple grand for one of the higher end Macs (especially if you already have other hardware, like a monitor and keyboard that you can use with it). It's not fancy but it gets the job done.

I needed a Mac desktop that was cost efficient, and this fit the bill. It works well, but is a little sluggish. I'd like to upgrade the RAM, but this particular unit is closed and is unable to be upgraded. 4meg is doable, but more would make it more responsive and function more quickly. Other than that, very pleased.

Although this Mac Mini hasn’t been update in over 3 years it is still extremely smooth and the cheapest way to pair with a $100 monitor and a $30 wireless keyboard & mouse combo to enjoy the Apple experience. Super simple to set up and has worked flawlessly to this point. Highley recommend.

I purchased this mac mini to replace my last windows desktop and we love it. It is used primarily for web surfing and some picture editing. The only con is the amount of memory. It is constantly spinning a beach ball if you try to do to much with it at once.
