Produced by Nigel Godrich, Win & Regine, and recorded in multiple locales including New Orleans, El Paso and Mount Desert Island, 'WE' paradoxically distills 'the longest we've ever spent writing, uninterrupted, probably ever' (per the band's Win Butler) into a concise 40 minute epic - one as much about the forces that threaten to pull us away from the people we love, as it is inspired by the urgent need to overcome them. The album's cathartic journey follows a definable arc from darkness into light over the course of seven songs divided into two distinct sides - Side 'I' channeling the fear and loneliness of isolation, and Side 'WE' expressing the joy and power of reconnection. On the album's cover, a photograph of a human eye by the artist JR evokes Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy. This stunning image - embellished by the distinctive airbrush colour tinting of Terry Pastor (utilising the same physical technique he employed on David Bowie's iconic 'Hunky Dory' and 'Ziggy Stardust' covers) - is the visual expression of 'WE'. Details 1. Age of Anxiety I 2. Age of Anxiety II (Rabbit Hole) 3. End of the Empire I-IV 4. The Lightning I, II 5. Unconditional I (Lookout Kid) 6. Unconditional II (Race and Religion) [Feat. Peter Gabriel] 7. We

Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
