## Design The ASUS TUF A16 Gaming Laptop is a somewhat bulky laptop, but still weighs less than 5 pounds. It has a RGB backlit keyboard that is comfortable to type or game on, and the WASD keys are more translucent than the rest to make them easy to find. At the top of the keyboard is a row specifically for controlling the volume, microphone mute, and power. While the display is not OLED, the large 16-inch screen is still sharp, colorful, and bright, and is more than suitable for gaming. On the left side of the laptop, you'll find the charging jack, Ethernet port, a full-sized HDMI port, two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, and a headphone jack. On the right side, there are two additional USB-A ports. ## Performance This laptop features an AMD Risen 9 8940HX processor, which is a strong multi-core performer but isn't always the most energy-efficient and has no dedicated NPU for local AI inference. Therefore, this laptop, although quite powerful, is not officially a "CoPilot+" PC. The A16 gaming laptop also packs a GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU built on the Blackwell architecture and has excellent ray tracing (lighting and shadowing) capabilities and DLSS 4 (AI-driven multi-frame generation) support. However, this laptop's configuration limits VRAM at 8GB, which can be limiting, especially for local AI workloads, which I'll get to later. I pulled the Cinebench 2026 scores while the laptop was connected to its charger and here are the scores: GPU: 49944 CPU Multiple Threads: 5170 CPU Single Core: 562 CPU Single Thread: 433 ### Fornite I left Fortnite auto-detect the settings and it picked out "high" settings for almost everything. - View Distance: Epic (highest) - Shadows: High - Textures: High - Effects: High - Post Processing: High - Meshes: Low While playing Fortnite, I set the FPS to unlimited and often achieved well over 100 FPS, sometimes in the low 200s even. The graphics looked great and gameplay was smooth. ### Local AI (LM Studio) Using Google's local Gemma-4-e4b model in LM Studio (with GPU offload and CPU Thread Pool Size maxed out), the ASUS TUF Gaming A16 laptop did a great job responding at about 60-70 tokens per second! Unfortunately, the 8GB of VRAM does limit you to running models of around 7B (7 billion parameters) or smaller, assuming 4-bit quantization (Q4_K_M). Still, this laptop would be capable of AI tasks such as text generation and light coding tasks. ## Summary It's a tough time for gaming PCs right now in mid-2026 as hardware prices are much higher than they were even a year ago due partly to AI data center demands. The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 gaming laptop is a good balance: it doesn't have the latest and greatest GPU or the fanciest CPU, which helps keep costs in check, but it is still a capable machine for both gaming and running local AI tasks.

Because you're not stuck with the base configuration. It seems the more you spend the more you're locked into one spec unless you're willing to spend extra for the extra parts - and with a extra large price compared to DIYing. You get the 16GB and 512GB storage, but you're not stuck there. If you want, grab another 16GB and bump this baby to 32GB easily. Need more room for games or other files, there's also a spare slot for another NVME or you can replace both if you need. This makes the mid-range gaming laptop so much better than the high end where you're stuck with what you get. The only sad part is that the GPU is stuck at 8GB, and some games are requiring 8GB as min spec. At 165hz, the screen is plenty fast with minimal ghosting. Colors are vibrant and the resolution is high enough to make texts crisp even looking at the screen at nose distance. It's no OLED, but it's no slouch. With only 8GB of VRAM you'll either have to play at a lower res or use frame gen and upscaling to keep performance up. Even though I do have some of the higher end laptops, the lack of being able to squeeze more performance is a huge negative. This "cheaper" cousin has room to grow so you bet this is taking the spot from the other high end laptops I have. I wish every other model would follow suit with the situation we're going through with RAM and storage.

I really love Asus hardware. I have several Laptops and just recently built a desktop with their Strix line and all good with performance, appearance and overall use. This Asus TUF Gaming A16 right out of the box is really nice. Overall feel is solid. Keyboard is nice. It HAS 10 Key to the side. Yes. I do spreadsheets for work and 10.Kry is a plus. It is a slightly slimmer 10 key pads but it's all good. Setup was super simple. Plugged in fired up signed into Wi-Fi and started the download process. It had updates and all. That took about 1 hour to get er through. Peripheral hook ups are as follows. 3 USB a 2 USB c 1 HDMI I LAN port Performance is great. I used on high demand graphics game and it did just fine. High frame rate didn't bog down game play. Nvidia card did well. I let my kid try it with his games and same. Honestly his games are less video demanding than the ones that I play but I let him have a go around. I can't share photos of game play as it is the lagged as copyright. Fan is super quiet. That's a plus especially if I am pushing the PC and the fan kicks on. It doesn't ruin game plan and all. I did not have the guts to try and drop the TUF laptop as it has military specs to survive a drop. I will pass on that test. Overall really happy with this laptop and really love Asus in general.

This review is for the ASUS TUF Gaming A16” Gaming Laptop System is very sleek and lighter than I thought it would be, It has the usual decent-sized power brick. Not overly huge though. Noise is not an issue at all and I've had some that were pretty loud for a laptop, but that has been a while ago. From turned off to login, it boots in roughly 25-30 seconds. Attached are pictures (sorry for the quality) of all the inputs/outputs. I’ve only had the opportunity so far to run NCAA 27 and some Elden Ring and both ran without any noticeable lagging etc.. This has sufficient system Ram and GPU Ram for anyone wanting to game on a laptop IMO. You really can’t go wrong with this system form what I’ve seen so far.

Brute power and a beautiful keyboard in a gaming laptop with very high specifications. The color of the display stands out as the first asset of this device that you are impressed with. I ran some color generators as well as motorsports games and the color palette was fantastic with many vibrant colors and no bleed over between colors, even with fast paced action. The keyboard is very smooth and responsive and I felt very much in control. I did like having the numeric keypad on the right side of this device. This greatly facilitates entering strings of numbers for spreadsheets when doing taxes and other bookkeeping. The spectacular display is 16 inches and the colors are enhanced by the 165 Hz capability. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 is a beast for gaming. This chip can handle the high-refresh-rate needed for 1440p gaming. It also has 12GB VRAM compared to 8GB VRAM over the RTX 5060 and basically doubles the power of the predecessor chip; but of course this adds some cost. This unit is very well designed for cooling with 4 exhaust vents, 5 heat pipes, and has an anti-dust filter. The fan noise is minimal. This unit is built to handle military level toughness which is important for me to avoid problems when I get too animated while hitting the keyboard since I can be clumsy. This laptop has become my primary gaming machine now. I am very impressed with the strong specifications, great screen and overall toughness of this device and would highly recommend it.

This gaming laptop by Asus it’s pretty much top notch performance wise. Performance is extraordinary with the AMD processor with built-in Nvidia graphics. Frame rates on games is fairly fast, very responsive. They built in 256 GB of storage is fast with hardly any like home at all. I’m not an OLED screen the colors are quite vivid. Much better than you would expect from me from LED screen, and there is no screen lag at all Very impressive The quality is amazing with the aluminum body, resisting all flex and proving quite resistant to drops again quite impressive Wi-Fi connectivity is very very impressive along Bluetooth capability is on power from a highly advanced device And provides plenty of reliable connectivity. A keyboard is quite comfortable to type on, and the keys are very soft feeling. In fact, hoping on the keyboard for prolonged periods is quite comfortable and they included 10 key is nice Overall, this is an outstanding computer with plenty of capability for a gaming In the movies and videos. The Asus TUF Gaming A16 is a midrange gaming laptop with a 16 inch screen, a Nvidia RTX5070 GPU, and a powerful AMD Ryzen 9 CPU. It is capable of playing modern games at medium levels and has no problems with everyday activities. I primarily use the laptop with Bambu Studio and other slicers, with Hueforge, and Blender. Since these programs are mostly CPU dependent, the AMD CPU easily runs these programs. I also run local LLMs and use a local version of Hunyuan3D2. These programs utilize CUDA and run well on the Nvidia GPU within the VRAM limitations of the discrete GPU. The laptop comes with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. The screen has a resolution of 1920x1200, a brightness of approximately 300 nits, and a frequency of up to 165hz. Battery life under normal usage is approximately 4-5 hours. For the year 2026, these specs. seem a little light given the price of the laptop and seem to reflect the difficulty vendors are having in keeping prices down. Depending on your usage, the 512GB SSD may require additional storage and the 16GB of RAM can become a bottleneck. The screen is not particularly bright and the battery life could be better. I have always found that Asus makes quality laptops and this one is no exception, however, I feel that too many compromises were made to justify the 2026 price. I would recommend that you take a look at last year's Asus models or previous models which may be both lower in price and more capable.
