About this product
Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-84) was one of the most outstanding, yet at the same time, most idiosyncratic composers of his time. His work reflects his ambitious attempt to assimilate his father's legacy and to develop it further to suit the taste of his own generation. This becomes apparent in his keyboard music - from the early works to the late sonatas and fantasias. The oldest Bach son delights US here with his appealing synthesis of highly complex baroque and sensitive gallant styles. Léon Berben's inspiring performances profoundly emphasize the significance of this music and continue the Carus series of works by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. Album Tracks 1. Sonata in C-Dur (BR-WFB a 2A / FK 1B) 2. Sonata in C-Dur (BR-WFB a 1 / FK Deest) 3. Sonata in D-Dur (BR-WFB a 5 / FK 4) 4. Sonata in Es-Dur (BR-WFB a 8 / FK Deest) 5. Fantasia in C-Moll (BR-WFB a 19 / FK 16) 6. Sonata in E-Moll (BR-WFB a 9 / FK Deest) 7. Sonata in F-Dur (BR a 11B / FK 6B) 8. Fantasia in E-Moll (BR-WFB a 23 / FK 20)

![Bach,J.S. / Frisch - Well-Tempered Clavier Book II - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/fa1e7e3b-41c4-4fd2-9cf5-0205f5c4d1bf.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Two years after releasing her album dedicated to Book I of J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Céline Frisch now presents the second volume of this musical landmark. Bach compiled Book II in 1744, twenty-two years after Book I. It took until 1801 for both volumes to be printed from then until the present day they have inspired countless composers. After a series of recordings with the Ensemble Zimmermann she helped to found, Céline Frisch returns to the harpsichord recital, for a programme of this, her very favourite music. Through these preludes and fugues, she reminds us that far from being technical exercises, the Well- Tempered Clavier is a work of pure pleasure and constant renewed discovery. As Robert Schumann declared 'You should frequently play the fugues of the great masters, particularly those of J.S. Bach. Make the Well-Tempered Clavier your daily bread.' Album Tracks 1. The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II 2. Preludes and Fugues, BWV 870-893
