Bach,J.S. / Mields / Feudel - Christmas Oratorio - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

For many, the Christmas holiday season would be incomplete without the resounding drum roll and trumpet fanfare that opens Bach's InchOratorium auf die Heilige WeynachtInch (InchOratorio for the holy ChristmasInch). Ever since it was first performed by the Thomaskantor between Christmas Day in 1734 and Epiphany 1735 in Leipzig's two main churches of St. Thomas and St. Nikolai, Bach's six part musical masterpiece has become a cornerstone of the city's identity and musical heritage. The performance presented here, led by Bach's 17th successor Gotthold Schwarz together with the Thomanerchor and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, features a lineup of renowned soloists, enabling one to experience the festive grandeur of what many consider the epitome of Christmas music in it's original setting. InchGotthold Schwarz transforms this into a Christmas Oratorio that is far more than a sum of it's parts... his musical rhetoric avoids cheap gimmicks and vain showmanship.Inch (Peter Korfmacher, LVZ)

Bach,J.S. / Otto / Braum - Christmas Oratorio - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio was written for the Christmas season of 1734, and although it incorporates music from earlier works it belongs firmly among his timeless large-scale compositions. The development of the oratorio, which was to become a new musical form in Protestant church services at that time, was stimulated by Bach's compositions, particularly by the unusual form of his six-part Christmas Oratorio. From it's famously joyful opening 'Jauchzet frohlocket' to the arrival of the Wise Men from the East, this work's enduring popularity has long proven it's status as a choral 'evergreen.' For the conductor Ralf Otto, flexibility, diversity and transparency of sound have always been essential to his work with choirs and orchestras. The conductor's reputation is based on his gift for interpreting different musical styles, from the Renaissance through the music of today. This recording follows the April 2018 of Bach's St. John Passion with the Bach Choir and Orchestra of Mainz conducted by Ralf Otto. MusicWeb International wrote Inchthe Bachchor Mainz is a fine ensemble it shows great flexibility in those turbae which are performed at a high speed, and produces a surprisingly transparent sound, also thanks to the good acoustic of the Christuskirche in Mainz.Inch Album Tracks 1.
