About this product

After three acclaimed ECM recordings with Louis Sclavis (Sources, Salt and Silk Melodies, and Characters on a Wall), each of them attesting his improvisational resourcefulness, French pianist Benjamin Moussay was invited to record a solo album. Promontoire is the result, a thoughtful, reflective and profoundly lyrical album that is both a strikingly original statement and an admirable addition to ECM's distinguished solo piano series. Produced by Manfred Eicher, and recorded at Studios la Buissonne in January 2019. Album Tracks 1. 127 2. Promontoire 3. Horses 4. Don't Look Down 5. Villefranque 6. L'oiseau D'or 7. Chasseur de Plumes 8. Sotto Voce 9. The Fallen 10. Theme from Nana 11. Monte Perdido 12. Théa

Benjamin Lackner - Spindrift - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Benjamin Lackner -InchSpindriftInch Back with a newly formed quintet, the German pianist Benjamin Lackner presents a different and exciting side of his composer approach. Subtle fanfares meet contemplative lyricism in a program of originals that always puts melody and ensemble chemistry first. Saxophone and trumpet take the lead, forming their own little ensemble section, and contribute elegantly interwoven lines and striking solos to an especially harmonious group sound and a tuneful set of songs. Benjamin Jephta - Homecoming - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Katalyst is proud to reissue this debut recording from one of South Africa's rising stars in the jazz community. In June 1974, amid forced removals under an oppressive government, something extraordinary was happening in Cape Town's jazz scene. This was when Abdullah Ibrahim's Mannenberg began it's journey in contributing towards a nation's emancipation. Fast-forward almost exactly 18 years, to July 1992, when the grip of apartheid began to slacken and Cape Town became home to another jazz prodigy, this time in the form of Mitchell's Plain-born Benjamin Jephta, the winner of the 2017 Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Jazz. The 24-year-old has already made a name for himself as one of South Africa's premier jazz double bass and electric bass players, having performed at venues and festivals locally since the age of 15. Watching Benjamin work is something to behold. While getting lost in his mesmeric compositions, one wonders how it's possible for someone so young to reach such depth in his craft.
