Bilder Duo - Folk-Inspired Works for Piano Duet & Duo - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Taneyev was a pupil of Tchaikovsky and a teacher of Rachmaninov and Scriabin. During his lifetime his chamber music was widely considered on a par with that of the great Viennese masters. The String Trio in E flat major, originally scored for violin, viola and the rarely-heard tenor viola, is a mature work with echoes of Mozart and Beethoven. The Piano Quartet in E major is a large-scale, passionate work, sonorous and melodic, with a transfiguring beauty. It has always retained an honored place in the Russian chamber repertoire. Album Tracks 1. String Trio in E-Flat Major, Op. 31 (1910-11) 2. Piano Quartet in E Major, Op. 20 (1906)

Album Tracks 1. Allegro, Ma Non Troppo, Un Poco Maestoso 2. Molto Vivace 3. Adagio Molto E Cantabile - Andante Moderato 4. Finale Presto

This collection vividly shows the poetic and wide-ranging expressive qualities of Hugh Shrapnel's piano music over the last 20 years.
