A: If you are looking for quality speakers that you can use outside, then the Bose 151 and the Bose 251 are both good options to meet your need. Made by one of the leaders in the home speaker marketplace, these two models have a lot to offer. To help you decide if the Bose 151 or the Bose 251 is right for you, we’ve compared the two outside speakers in the categories of features, audio, what’s included and dimensions. Features The Bose 151 and the Bose 251 are both a two speaker system designed to withstand the environmental challenges of using speakers outside. Both have undergone environmental testing which has exposed the speakers to sunlight, heat, rain, ice, water and salt. Because Bose understands you might not want to have your speakers take up valuable table space, both the Bose 151 and the Bose 251 come with weather-resistant brackets and hardware so that you can place your speakers on outdoor walls and know that all of the mechanics will be able to withstand the elements. Audio Both the Bose 151 and the Bose 251 have the same articulated array speaker display which means that the drivers are positioned to provide a large sound field, which is needed for outdoor listening. The biggest difference between the Bose 151 and the Bose 251 is in the woofers. The Bose 151 has 3 drivers that measure 2.5 inches each while the Bose 251 has 2 5.25 inch drivers in each speaker. The Bose 251 speakers boast a more powerful bass. What’s Included The Bose 151 comes with the 2 speakers as well as a number of pieces to mount the speakers themselves. These pieces include 2 mounting brackets, 2 bracket locking screws, 2 bracket to speaker screws, 4 wood screws, 2 lock washers, 4 ¼ inches lock washers and 4 wall anchors. The Bose 251 comes with the 2 speakers as well as mounting hardware. This hardware includes 8 screws, 8 plastic anchors, 4 knobs, 2 brackets and self-adhesive rubber feet. Bose also recommends purchasing speaker wire but this is not included in any of the purchases. Dimensions The Bose 151 speakers each measure 12.5 inches x 4.5 inches x 6 inches while the Bose 251 speakers each measure 13.5 inches x 5.8 inches x 8 inches. Both the Bose 151 and the Bose 251 come in either black or white. The Bose 151 can be mounted both vertically and horizontally while the Bose 251 can only be mounted vertically.
Q: Do I need an amplifier with Bose 251 outdoor speakers?
A: Hello Jim. Great question. Yes, you need a receiver or amplifier to power the Bose 251 outdoor speakers. They will handle 10-200 W per channel, 4-8 ohms. Thanks!
A: Hello. Thank you for your question! The 251 Environmental Speakers can connect to most receiver/amplifiers. For a wireless connection to your amp, you will need a 3rd-party wireless speaker adapter kit. Here is an example that would work: http://bit.ly/2xJahcv . We hope this helps!
A: Hi there, This depends on the way in which you want to connect them. Reach out to us through our website so we can discuss this with you further.
A: Yes, yo could use them for that application.
A: Hey Sura, Thanks for reaching out, great question. The 251 Environment speakers would not be compatible with that receiver because 350w would be too much and potentially damage your speakers. The requirements for the 251 speakers are 10w min - 200w max. We recommend that you consult Crown Amplifier for compatible speakers. Please join us on our Community if we can be of any further assistance: https://community.bose.com/ Thank you again, Mohsin - Bose Support
Q: What is the RMS watts for each speaker?
A: As most of you know Bose usually doesn't provide that information. The receiver I'm using is pushing out 140 and if I play them in two channel stereo they hold up pretty good. You have to remember they are outdoor speakers and do not carry a ton of bass, but do put our much more than most other outdoor speakers.
A: Hi Vlad. Thanks for the question! The Bose 251 Environmental Speakers were engineered to provide pure and deep bass on their own. But, if you feel you need more, this is certainly possible! These speakers can be connected to any receiver that supplies 10-200 W per channel, 4-8 ohms. If your receiver has a subwoofer/LFE output, you can add any subwoofer you'd like! We hope this helps!

great outdoor speakers - note you DO need a receiver to use these speakers, so plan on spending more money for simple operation. that being said, they seem to withstand the elements and have been through many lake erie spring/early summer thunderstorms (under an overhang). the only disappointment is the lack of bass (bose is KNOWN for their bass - without the need for extra equipment) but upon further reading, it seems an equalizer and/or a sub will solve this issue. however, at their current $$ price + ($ of receiver of your choice) then + ($ of an equalizer/sub) = A LOT of money for outdoor speakers. I guess it all depends on the user, what your needs are, and how much you're willing to spend. in the future I think I would go a different route however, and find outdoor speakers that put out better low frequency sound, adding that depth and richness I've come to enjoy as I've become a more experienced 'audiophile' so would I recommend these to a prospective buyer? yes AND no. again, this product is all about what your needs are and what conditions you'll be using the speakers (i.e. total space, exposed to all elements, price you want to spend, what you'll be using them for (music [sub-type of music], TV, movies, and most importantly what you expect to get out of paying $400 for speakers + the price of an amp to actually use these!

These Bose speakers are replacing my identical 20 yr old ones which are still working and rocking after all those years!!!! Bose discontinued these speakers and I had to pick these up when I saw them on sale (open box). I highly recommend these great sounding speakers.

I purchased these to replace some older Yamaha speakers in our garage, that still worked but wanted to upgrade. These are no exception to the Bose standard, beautiful speakers with an awesome sound!! I was leery after reading some of the reviews but having a set of am10's in the house for many years, I knew they had to sound great. I was surprised at how large these are, they look massive hanging on the wall, but I am not complaining!! I also bought a new Onkyo receiver to power them and what a difference. They have a very sturdy mounting bracket that holds the speakers securely to the wall. The highs are very clear no matter what power level, it's like standing in a sound stage. They have plenty of bass also for the size of the speakers, overall, a very rich sounding set of speakers. I can only imagine how they would sound outside; in fact, I may purchase another set just for that. I wanted to get the black ones but weren't available at the time, no regrets with the white ones though. Very happy with the build quality and sound of the 251's, I would recommend them to anyone looking for an outdoor/rugged speaker with great sound!!
