Customer Ratings & Reviews

First, let me state, I am a photographer, not a videographer. So, I don't use the video features and will not be reviewing those. I have been a long time Canon user. I started with a 630 SLR, then moved to digital with an XT, T2i, 6D and now the RP. The main driver for this purchase was a 2 week trip to Ireland this fall. I wanted to find smaller camera. After doing a bunch of research, it came down to the Canon R or RP. (I am sticking with Canon because I own several "L" lenses.) I decided on the RP over the R primarily on price. I have been testing the camera for various situations like landscape, street, flowers/macro, etc. and have been very, very happy with the results. Specifically, I am really thrilled with the electronic viewfinder. There are several aspects of the EVF that are a significant improvement: (1) the EVF is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get. So when shooting in Manual, you see the effect of changing the F-stop, aperture, ISO as you change it. No more fishing for the depth-of-field button like on the 6D to see what is in focus. (2) seeing the light meter and histogram live in the viewfinder ... huge to be able to keep the camera at my eye and be able to assess the light levels when composing a shot. (3) touch screen to move the focus point and see that in the viewfinder (along with a huge improvement in the AF function thanks to dual pixel). (4) ability to review shots in the EVF ... at 57, I need reading glasses to see up close and now I can skip the glasses and just review shots in the EVF in focus!!! There are a bunch of features I have yet to explore (4K time-lapse, focus bracketing, etc.) I don't find issues with hanging heavier lenses on a light body. I have only used my 24-105 F4 L Mark I with the RF/EF adapter so far and I have not had any issues with balance. Pros: EVF Dual-pixel autofocus Touchscreen RF to EF lens adaptor Controls are well laid out Built in intervalometer!!! Cons: Body is a bit small for big hands, but I plan to purchase the grip extender. Battery life is quoted at 250 photos, but most reviewers got way more than that. I have yet to run through the charge on the first battery, but I bought a second one anyway. Overall, I am super happy with the purchase. BB did not have the currently "free" RF/EF lens adapter in stock, so I had to way a few days to try the camera out. (Shipped to my house for free!) I plan to purchase the RF 35mm macro lens to use as a travel lens when I need a smaller/lighter lens.

Full disclosure: I upgraded to the EOS RP from a Rebel T5, so of course the RP is clearly going to be an improvement over my previous camera. I stuck with my Rebel for a long time because I didn’t want to fall into the trap of thinking upgrading my equipment would substitute upgrading my skills and knowledge. I’ve spent several years learning photography and improving my skills and finally decided to move forward with the RP. It’s a huge improvement all around. The image resolution is shockingly amazing for the price of the RP. The RP is fast, lightweight, easy to use (especially when upgrading from a Rebel) and produces excellent quality images. I have no interest in the video capabilities so I can’t review them, but as a photographer, I love this camera. I purchased the adapter for my EF lenses and also the RF 35mm 1.8 and they both work perfectly. I also want to note that the FPS is more than adequate at least for my use when shooting wildlife, seascapes and people. I’ve included 3 images I took of some muscle shells at the beach. One is the original size. The second is a crop of the original and the third is a crop of the second. The others are RAW unedited shots. Have a look!

There is a lot of contention online from videographers whom complain about the lack of 24fps, but in all honest my vlogging is done in 30fps, and the 4k is not really used since you cant use the dual pixel auto focus. But I didn't buy this camera for the purpose of videography, it was for photography, and after disabling the shutter preview, this camera fits my every need. Excellent for natural light photography with the right lenses make a great fast focus. Digic 8 gives me a large advantage of a smaller focal point than the previous Digic 6 that I was using. Nighttime long exposure shots are great as well, and as of early April the Adobe suite started supporting the RP's release of .CR3 raw, so thats great news as well! The EF adaptor is absolutely flawless when it comes to translation from RF signal. All of my old lenses work, if anyone wanted to switch from a classic mirrored DSLR, i would highly recommend this camera as the transition point. Thats just my personal recommendation.

Great full frame camera with great autofocus due to so many focus points. The battery doesn't last too long. I recommend purchasing an extra battery if you are shooting for more than a couple of hours. Great choice of lenses with the capability of using an R mount adapter. Used a Sigma Art 35 (without calibrating) and Canon RF 35 and both worked great. Sigma 25-105 f4 art also preforms great with this camera. Works well with ef-s lenses and tried my canon ef-s 55-250 for nature photos and I did not notice much vignette and this may be due to the camera switching the crop factor. Colors, sharpness, detail, and contrast on landscapes, portraits, and nature photos have been great.

I like : Svelte, lightweight body Fully articulating screen 4K video Aggressively priced Dislike : Body feels small for big RF lenses Loses the R’s sensor shutter 1.6x crop + no Dual Pixel AF in 4K Miserly battery life

I am truly pleased with this purchase. The low light capabilities are the biggest upgrade I experienced coming from Canon 60d and 5d Classic. The image quality is A1 and the functions are easy for intermediate photographers. Video quality is great also! I recommend to any photographer as a lightweight full frame option!

Bought this camera to use as a travel camera with the compact 50mm and 24mm and can’t be happier. The smaller body size lets me throw it in my bag and take it everywhere but I still get full frame performance. Does it have the best auto focus? No. Does it have image stabilization? No. But for its price it gets the job done and the RAW files it makes works perfectly for my photographic style. I put an image stabilized lens on it, throw an extra battery in my pocket (because the battery capacity is a little on the low side), and start looking for something to capture. My only complaints are the lack of as many custom buttons that I’m used to on a mirrorless body and the less-than-intuitive menu system. Setting up custom menus takes a long time but once you learn the “q” menu it’s not too bad. If you’re a professional photographer this camera doesn’t have the battery life or memory card slots to do the job but as a backup or travel camera, the RP has been exactly what I wanted.

Excellent Canon product. As a new photographer I can highly recommend this product. Controls are easy to understand and use, and the mirrorless, full frame, sensor provides beautiful and crisp images. Below are two photos taken with the Canon EOS RP using a Canon RF 50mm 1.8f lens. It captures light and detail very well. As always, I recommend Canon products and buying them through Best Buy.

I originally got the Canon RP but it had to many issues like freezing up and taking blurry pictures and the pictures that looked good wasn't sharp enough at all.. i did more research and apparently the RP isn't a professional camera, Allot of Professionals use the Canon Mark R6 ii and they have amazing pictures and nothing but good reviews, I decided to give it a go and I'm so happy that I did, I also bought the 50mm separate transaction because the lens that you can buy with the cameras don't work all that great!

The Canon RP is a great all around camera, good size and lightweight. If you have EF lenses purchase the adaptor and you could use your full frame lenses with this camera. For the price you cant go wrong, leaves you with extra cash to invest in better glass, and with a good flash and tripod you can have a great setup without requesting a loan. Only con I found was the battery life, a secondary battery is a must. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I upgrade Canon EOS RP camera form Canon EOS Rebel T2i . RP it is small, light, and perfect for portraits. I love the price and image quality , good high ISO performance and Fast Dual Pixel. EOS RP is an amazing camera.

This camera is awsome big step uo from my rebel t6. I even went back and retook some astrophotography photos of older one i took and the clarity and sharpness are incredible couldn't be happier only bad thing is the battery life.

I absolutely Love this camera! Light weight and versatile!! Image quality is incredible!

I had an early digital camera in the late 90’s and another in the mid 2000’s that was okay but never really stepped up to the current era of cameras. I did use a Canon 70D at work for many years so I was comfortable with the Canon architecture and decided on Canon when it came time for finally buying my own. I also wanted a full frame, mirrorless camera and I narrowed it down to the RP & R. I really did not see the advantages of the price difference so opted for the RP. So far I have purchased a couple lenses, extension grip and a spare battery for the unit and have overall been satisfied in its performance. I will need to secure an external flash since there isn’t one built in (although from what I gather none of the R series cameras have an internal flash) but aside from that I’m very happy with it. I’ve heard some folks criticizing the crop on the 4K recording, but video is not my primary focus with this camera. I’ve also heard reports of some earlier models of the RP overheating in hot or humid conditions, but since this unit has been around about 4 years hopefully those issues have been resolved at the factory. No problems on my end yet, however it hasn’t experienced a Deep South humid summer yet. I’m highly satisfied so far with the limited time I’ve had with it. I’ve included a photo I took of my fish tank.

I've been a Canon shooter for many years and am heavily invested in Canon equipment, but had been looking for a kit that I could comfortably carry around all day and still have the excellent image quality that I have come to expect from Canon. The RP fit the bill perfectly! With the included Canon adapter I can still use all of my Canon lenses with no loss of functionality. I primarily use the RP body with my Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 USM lens. This is a great combination for travel or just walking around all day, and is especially good for low-light photography. My only complaint is battery life so I do recommend that if you do purchase the RP, you get an additional battery. The RP is a whole lot of camera for the money, has Canon build quality, is comfortable in the hand, easy to use and gives you that full-frame goodness.

Excellent camera. Although Canon mirrorless cameras have received a bad rap, the EOS RP is a must have. Great price point and exceptional quality. With the upgraded firmware the eye and face recognition is spot on. The touchscreen makes it super easy for changing your camera’s settings.

A GREAT camera. Really good lowlight capabilities. Love the image quality and it is very easy to use!

I upgraded form the Canon 7D that I used for almost nine years, and this EOS RP camera meets all my expectations. The interface is easy to use, pictures look great and I can use all my Canon lenses since the EF adapter was bundled with the camera. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Good excelle Exelente camara Good excelle Exelente camara

There were several anti-EOS RP youtube videos about this camera. I would say I'm very glad I made the purchase. Been shooting for about 15 years and have decent Canon glass collection. I bought this for photography, video is excellent also. Was disappointed that it did not come with the EF adapter ring.
