Charles Mingus's consummate musicianship made live performance a tricky undertaking, his perfectionism often clashing with variables he couldn't fully control. In this set at Carnegie Hall, his gift as an arranger is most evident, his artful renditions of two Duke Ellington songs acting as a conversation between two musical giants, instead of just a retelling. Known to be thunderous, he was often just electrifying. Album Tracks 1. C Jam Blues 2. Perdido
