A paradigmatic example of the Wiener Symphoniker's core repertoire, Mahler's First Symphony in D major was written only four years before the orchestra was founded in 1900. Not surprisingly, Mahler's symphonies and their interpretational challenges were among the main intersts of the orchestra and it's many renowned conductors from the very beginning. Above that Mahler's Symphony No. 1, being the first oeuvre of a Vienna revolutionary, is more sutable for the start of this new Vienna Orchestra tag. Album Tracks 1. Langsam, Schleppend. Im Anfang Sehr Gemachlich 2. Kräftig Bewegt, Doch Nicht Zu Schnell 1. Feierlich Und Gemessen, Ohne Zu Schleppen 2. Stürmisch Bewegt
Bruckner was working on the Ninth Symphony until the day he died. He left a stark and magnificent torso that marks the end of the 19th-century symphony - but he also left fragments and sketches for a magnificent finale that would cap his life's work. In the latest realisation of a completion that has taken over 20 years, Bruckner's finale crowns his musical last will and testament with an intense and visionary splendour. 'Everything that is strange about this finale is 100% Bruckner,' remarks Sir Simon Rattle. 'And one can see the terror and the fear and the passion which he was going through in his life at that time.' Album Tracks 1. Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Wab 109 I. Feierlich, Misterioso 2.
