A: You have to hold the bottle firm as the screw enters the cork. So yes, it does require wrist strength.
Q: Is the battery interchangeable since it is cordless?
A: Mine has no battery. The base plugs in.
Q: Does it work on champagne cork?
A: Not needed for that and probably would not recommend to use sir to the pressure.
A: Once charged, simply place the device directly over the cork, push the up button until you feel the cork come free. To release the cork, just press and hold the down button and out it comes.
A: Only thing I can think is you received a defective one. My first one worked well for years and I just ordered another one. Mine has done the job effectively.
