A few months ago near the end of August, I was shopping around for a laptop for college (Computer Science Major), I'd researched a few different laptops, but none really caught my eye like this one did. In short, it is a beautiful looking laptop that is incredibly light. The Best Buy rep at the store was very helpful in getting me the student discount and sale discount, with made me very happy. I took this laptop home and was excited to use it for the upcoming semester. I was very impressed with its clear, bright, full HD touch screen and comfortable keyboard, and good performance with its ssd and Ryzen cpu. I wish I could have gone on more about how I like this laptop, but a glaring issue and serious oversight by hp has made owning this thing a nightmare. About a month into my ownership of the laptop, the WiFi adapter began to give out. At the end of September I began to notice that the WiFi would randomly disconnect for about a minute. No big deal, I thought, I thought that maybe the signal dropped in my room for some reason, or maybe a hiccup in the drivers caused me to disconnect. However, over the next few days, the rate of the WiFi disconnects increased exponentially, up to a point where it would connect for about 15 seconds, then disconnect for 30, and not show any available networks. Of course this made the laptop virtually unusable, frustrated, this began my troubleshooting. I tried everything from updating windows, updating drivers, rolling back updates, updating the BIOS, running hardware diagnostics, and even resetting the computer to factory settings. Looking into windows event viewer showed me that the problem was the Intel Dual Band Wirelesss AC 7265 WiFi adapter. (see screenshot 1) Hours of troubleshooting did absolutely nothing to fix it, leaving me with only one option: sending my laptop to hp for repair. I contacted customer service, went through the usual questions, "did you reset windows?", "did you run the diagnostic tool?" etc. and eventually got sent a shipping box via expedited overnight shipping (nice!). I sent the laptop in along with a detailed summary of what I'd already tried and waited the usual 5 business days only to get it back.......still broken (not nice..) You can see screenshot 2 and see that the same errors in event viewer were popping up. According to the repair report they sent with the laptop, they replaced the wireless adapter, which is what I believed to be the problem too. Which at this point meant that I either got very unlucky and got another faulty adapter, or, that part wasn't the issue in the first place. Cue the customer service call... After an hour long customer service phone call trying to explain that my problem wasn't fixed the first time, I was sent another box, and another day later I send my laptop back, and a week later......well nothing. (By the way, apparently they can't actually just replace my laptop until after it's sent in for repairs 3 times within a year. Great policies right??) I still don't have my laptop back, and it's been 2 more weeks. And as of today (10/30) will be another week, totaling a month of me not having it. My repair has already been delayed twice without explanation. The customer service rep only tells me that it's pending repair, giving me no new info. So all in all, I've been WITHOUT my $700 laptop for as l have been with it. Absolutely unacceptable as a student and Computer Science major who needs access to a computer literally every single day. HP really needs to get their quality control department together and test these PC's longer before they release them. So if you wan't to take a risk and buy this laptop, the specs are good, the design is nice, and its fast for its price range, however, you are still taking a risk of getting faulty hardware. Unfortunately for myself, I was one of the unlucky ones.

This laptop does everything I need. It run efficiently and it's lightweight and portable. The screen is crisp and clear.

In my opinion, this laptop is pretty cool! I love the awesome features it contains. It's really durable and great for college students like myself. I would definitely recommend this laptop, if you want something close to a MacBook with a cheaper price.

Getting started with the HP Envy is very straightforward just like other HP laptops. It runs Windows 10 so all the start up functions run in the background while you watch a temperature bar fill the screen. After answering a few preference questions, the computer runs its start up operations. From start to finish – including updates – the HP Envy took approximately 10 minutes to finalize its start up. After that was completed, I noticed one thing right off the bat – the temperature of the computer. I used a Infrared Thermometer to take the surface temperature of the laptop in a few different places. I got readings between 104 and 107 degrees Fahrenheit. I also used an infrared camera (FLIR One) to take a few shots of the heat signature from the top and bottom of the computer. After taking those readings, I did notice that the heat dissipated quickly. After the initial set-up, I began doing my testing. BASIC COMPUTING SKILLS One of the main things I use computers (and laptops) for is to type. I do a lot of writing and therefore, how responsive a keyboard is to me and how it feels is very important to my overall experience with a laptop. I enjoy the fact that the screen is touch sensitive. That makes it easy to transition between tablet, phone, and computer. I can't tell you how many times I have gone to touch a screen on a laptop to only be disappointed that the screen isn't a touchscreen. Given that comfortable typing is a big feature for me, I usually complete an online typing test to see what my speed is like. I then compare that to my speed on my MacBook Pro. In this instance, typing on the HP Envy was much more efficient than it was on my MBP. I had a speed of 70WPM on the Envy and on the MBP, it was 65WPM. The keyboard is quite responsive and the keys have a softer feel to them. It's very quiet to type on the Envy and the spacing of the keys is comfortable. CPU/GPU PERFORMANCE The HP Envy has been running very smoothly. It's been very responsive and able to handle the tasks I've thrown at it. Given that this computer is mainly built for gaming and application performance, those are the main areas that I was testing when I was using the laptop. To measure the performance of the GPU and CPU, I used two benchmarking tools – Geekbench 4 and NovaBench. Geekbench 4 Results The HP Envy 360x ended up with a single-core score of 2264 and a multi-core score of 6698. It also returned an OpenCL score of 31731. According to other Geekbench 4 results, the top scoring machine with an AMD Ryzen 5 processor is 4782/17291. In this regard, the HP Envy is performing below the top performing machine. The OpenCL test looks specifically at how well the GPU performs. The HP Envy has an AMD Radeon Vega 8 integrated graphics chipset with shared video memory. It's designed to provide solid image quality for Internet usage, movies, basic photo editing, and casual gaming. Looking at other AMD Radeon Vega 8 GPUs that have been tested on Geekbench, the average score is 33515. With that in mind, the HP Envy's GPU is performing a bit below the average. NovaBench Results NovaBench does a similar type of testing on your system but provides you with a different set of scores and analysis. The overall score of the HP Envy was 1090 and had a CPU score of 638 and GPU score of 203. I can’t say which test works better — they are just different. BATTERY PERFORMANCE According to the specs from HP, this laptop should work up to 10 hours (depending on the display panel that is installed). During my testing of this laptop, I tried to make note of how long the battery was lasting depending on the task being run at the time. When I first pulled the laptop out of its box, I placed it on charge for a big and then unplugged it as I started working with it. Starting with 81% battery, I noted that after about 3 hours, the battery had drained by 71%. At 10%, the computer gives you a warning about a low battery, so I plugged it into AC power at that point. During those 3 hours, I was running the tests I mentioned above and getting the computer set-up. I also began running Windows system updates. With this timing in mind, I think I can estimate an approximate battery life that will last a little over 4 hours if it's being vigorously used like I was doing. HARD DRIVE SPEED Finally, I wanted to test the hard drive's speed. This model of the HP Envy comes with 128GB PCIe SSD. According to the stress test I used (32GB), the top read/write speed of this SSD is 513/282 MB/s. This was a little disappointing considering that I did a test on a Razer Blade Stealth a few months ago and its read/write speeds with a 16GB stress test was 3153/1113 MB/s. It, too, had a PCI-e SSD. ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIENCE The last two features I looked at with the HP Envy had to deal with how well the computer handled entertainment like streaming video and gaming. Using Netflix, I watched the introduction to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The movie opens with a vibrant color pallette, extrodinary special effects mixed with human actors, and an eclectic music soundtrack. This combination of elements makes it an awesome test for both the display and speaker set for the HP Envy. I was very impressed by how good the picture looked on the screen. It was immaculate. The audio was well-amplified and easy to understand so I would rate the speakers at 'above average' for a laptop. In addition to the video trial, I also downloaded and played a few rounds of Sonic Dash. The game graphics held up very well and gameplay was smooth. Since this game is very fast-paced, I would expect that the HP Envy would hold up well with other types of gameplay, too. CONCLUSION The HP Envy is a wonderful multi-purpose laptop. It's above average for a standard performance laptop, but not up to par with 'gaming' laptops or custom builds. I would recommend this for users who are looking for one machine to accomplish many different tasks.

I recently got a large laptop for gaming but needed something for on-the-go that was lightweight and portable but yet powerful. I have been eyeballing the new Macs but they are just too expensive so I was looking for something much like it. The HP Envy x360 first caught my attention a few months ago on CNET and I thought I'd give it a try. The AMD Ryzen 5 would be my first attempt to go with an AMD machine since my disastrous Falcon Northwest back in 2005 which did not go well. But considering the price/value and the years since I figured I would give AMD a try once again. A solid state drive was a no-brainer and I really did not need a big hard drive since I hadn't planned on using this system for games or anything heavy hitting. Once I received the HP Envy x360 I must say that I was very, very impressed with the very beautiful aesthetics of the machine. Sure the Macs are beautiful and pretty much the standard for how a minimalist but yet powerful machine should look but the HP Envy matches it and, in some ways, even surpasses it. Setting it up was very easy and took minimal input from me. It was really nice to be able to fire it up, it boot very fast (that SSD, wow) and then answered some questions via Cortana and we were in Windows 10 and up and running in no time. Sure we had some updates to do and some drivers, etc to download so that took a couple of hours but it all was stuff that ran in the background while I watched TV and tinkered on my desktop. The HP Envy does come with some HP utilities installed but they seemed to be quite useful and unlike many of Dell's offerings I actually left most everything on the machine with the exception of the McAfee Virus software 30 day trial which was uninstalled and replaced with Bitdefender. Everything else was left on and seemed quite useful (utilities to demonstrate how to use the notebook, diagnostic tools, ways to contact HP, etc). Having had the machine up and running now for over a week I can say that it's super fast, probably the fastest machine I have ever run, aside from my SSD based desktop, and fully functional with really no issues at all. The face scanning software that the PC uses to unlock the laptop works phenomenally well, not once did it ever fail even when I was unshaven, shaven and everything in between. I really like that software and am actually considering buying some form of it for my desktop. The touch screen works amazingly well too, although I've not had the opportunity to use the stylus on the screen as that is an additional $69 (although check your model as some models do come with the stylus) The only real negatives I can think of in regards to this machine is, again it is not a gaming notebook. The video memory is low (2Gb) and there just isn't a lot of hard drive space to install much games. I believe I had about 70Gb free on the 128Gb hard drive once I was completely done installing all of my apps, virus checker, etc. Now as for it not running games: I mean modern games like Forza Motorsport 7, Overwatch, PUBG, etc. It runs Candy Crush and typical "light" games quite well. Speaking of graphics, the display, of course, is absolutely stunning. If you're looking for an on-the-go notebook I'd highly recommend the HP Envy x360. With incredible speed, absolutely stunning graphics, a light & portable design, beautiful aesthetics and outrageously long (12-13 hours) of battery life I cannot recommend it enough. Just be aware you may need to add an external drive of some sort if you use many apps, or just go ahead and get a bigger SSD, like the 256Gb version, out of the box. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

The screen cracks VERY EASILY while opening the laptop. Which defeats the purpose of a touchscreen and lord forbid if you “man handle” it to fold it I into a tablet. Hp manufacture does not stand by their product they won’t fix it for free. If u choose to get this please get the warranty but you may have to keep buying a warranty every time it breaks. Now the touchscreen doesn’t work.

This laptop has truly impressed me. It is amazing in quality and has a top end resolution. Moreover, it is very simple and easy to set up, use, and to adapt to. As promised, this computer allows one to be more productive, working efficiently with the touch-screen feature (very responsive), and it is also highly personalized to meet one’s specific needs. The keyboard has easy-to-read keys and has a well illuminated backlit feature. It is easy and comfortable to type. The size of the mouse touchpad decent which is smooth and very responsive. Furthermore, it works smoothly. Windows Hello (face recognition) feature works adequately when the device is put at a certain distance from the face. I am especially fond of Windows Ink as it promotes competence in any project or assignment I work on; I also enjoy drawing. Its performance is great as it works quickly and has sufficient battery life. The speakers have remarkable stereo quality, which I am very excited about. Topping it off, this convertible 2-in-1 laptop has aesthetic look and promising storage.

it took me about 5 minutes of testing out the 15 and 13 inch variants of these amd powered hp's to make a purchase decision. the construction and experience of the 13 inch variant is much superior. the screen is noticeably more vibrant than the 15 inch. the brightness is the same or a little brighter than the 15 inch as well. and just the feel in hand, the 13 inch just feels so much more sturdy and DENSE; feels like a macbook level of build quality. one of the most notably differences is the trackpad has a much firmer and solid click. and it feels a little cheap on the 15 inch model. the keyboard feels softer on this 13 inch model however but it feels great to me. there is no reason for you to get the 15 inch over the 13. its just built so much better. speakers sound great as well. volume button feels a little cheap. windows hello works stupid fast. my only gripe so far is that the laptop will get HOT. Almost too hot when using it while charging. other than that this is almost a perfect laptop. get this laptop right now. good stuff hp.

I performed a clean install of windows 10 immediately after buying it. Pros: Lightweight Keyboard feels a bit shallow, but still nice to type on Loud speaker Windows Hello is convenient + very quick boot-up Bright screen Dual-channel RAM Cons The light on the backlit keyboard is a bit uneven Fan is quick to become noisy under load Wifi somehow got disabled occasionally Neutral Battery lasts about 7 hours on battery-saving mode Touchpad occasionally gets a bit unresponsive, but most of the time it's good (also supports windows precision)

I chose this laptop for its design and size. I needed a portable lightweight and compact size with a good looking design. This Envy is very beautifuly made, the backlit keyboard and dark ash color is eyecatching. The screen folds all the way back, it has touch screen, its quiet, has a sharp rich screen and no screen bleeding was noticed. I had no issue with it until almost a month in. This laptop is kept in excellent condition, well ventilated, kept up to date and has full editons of anti virus and system cleaners installed. I have had to reinstall windows twice and have had to reboot it repeatedly due to the blue stop screen that kept coming up. The error was page fault in non paged area. I tried my best and resinstalled the system, restored it several times, tried safe mode, ran system cleaners, updated all software and drivers and still the blue screen appears at least twice a day. I have had it. I read that it can be due to faulty memory. I saw that this model does not have removable memory so I am unable to simply upgrade the ram sticks. It could be a faulty SSD. Either way it looks to be a defective unit. It works for a few hours and then suddenly crashes. Sometimes the sound stops working and when I try to adjust the volume on the taskbar, I get the stop error code. I have contacted Best Buy for a replacement. Hopefully it was just a defective unit. Other than this issue, I think this is a beautifully designed laptop. Needs more space on the SSD but that can be upgraded.

Solid 4.5 stars. Excellent ultrabook for its price. It's lightweight, has a nice aluminum shell, and speedy. The 360 hinge is very useful and WACOM pen compatibility is great. The Ryzen 5 with Vega 8 iGPU is capable of gaming. Sometimes you need to turn down the settings on some games, especially simulators, but still very playable and enjoyable. So why does it not get a full 5 stars? Compared to similarly priced Dell and Lenovo offerings, the SSD is quite small at 128GB. Of course, you can change that out, but it would've been nice if it was 256GB to start with. The Ryzen 5 SoC, while providing a nice balance of productivity and gaming capability (Intel iGPUs can't do much gaming and will struggle quickly), also demands more power. This affects both battery life (lower than equivalent i5-8250U/8265U powered 13.3 ultrabooks) as well as heat. The fan is on quite often and while many people are very bothered by fan noise, I'm not. The more bothersome part is the hot hair hitting me some times. Last thing, while it's lightweight with decent sized bezels, HP likes to have a massive bottom bezel/edge on their laptops. This results in a body that is deeper than competitors. The similarly priced Dell and Lenovo 13.3 ultrabooks have smaller bottom chins resulting in a more compact ultrabook. It doesn't affect portability much, but it just seems like unnecessary space. The speakers are housed in that additional area on the corresponding keyboard deck, so the sound is much better than competitor ultrabooks when in laptop mode, but the speakers' location are a bit of an issue when you use it in tablet, tent, or presentation mode since it's now on the other side. Overall a great buy and a solid competitor to Dell Inspiron 13.3 which feels cheaper and Lenovo 13.3in ultrabook options. I chose the HP Envy as it was the only one that offers Ryzen SoCs which gave me more flexibility on what I can do with my ultrabook. Not having to lug a big, heavy gaming laptop around while still being able to enjoy some gaming is very nice.

I bought this laptop about two weeks ago, combining the discounted price and student offer, at $579 and have been using it continuously ever since. It is a very beautiful device indeed, at a 2-in-1 at that, and has been able to take me through all of my daily needs as a graduate student. The storage is limited, 128gb, but the SSD is pretty fast, and the only concern that I have regarding this device is its battery life, which is around 5/6 hours with minimal usage. The fan starts making sound even when I stream a YouTube video, and the device feels a little warm at the bottom even during minumum load. Overall, I am satisfied with the device, considering the price I paid. I would recommend this to a friend if the price is under $650.

This laptop is priced at $829.99 (no sales/discounts/etc). I got it for almost $300 off, which was nice, but there are still a couple of issues that would cause some concerns for potential buyers. The number one issue I have with this laptop is its constant inability to stay cool. I don't want to call it overheating, but it gets relatively warm. Literally just watching Netflix/YouTube (with no other programs active) causes the laptop to be warm to the touch and uncomfortable after longer periods. This is not ideal when you're trying to watch a movie before bed and have the laptop resting on you. I use it for less than an hour a day at school and some light browsing (Amazon, note taking, nothing intensive) during class will leave my desk a bit warm. Maybe I received a bad unit, but I highly doubt it's supposed to run this warm when doing very light things. I have not installed much on the laptop since I bought it. Only Chrome and Discord. I don't play games or anything remotely intensive on this unit. The battery life is decent if you always put it on its battery saver mode, which is what I do. In that mode, I usually last 2-3.5 days without charging with 1.5-2 hours of use per day. Mixed web browsing and video streaming. The touchscreen is nice..most of the time. I found it was frustrating when scrolling through videos on YouTube and it would interpret a "pause" as a click. For example, if I'm scrolling through my subscription box and stop, it sometimes clicks on that video where my cursor would be when I stopped scrolling. Not sure if I could change some kind of sensitivity setting since it is a constant issue for me. Other than that, the touchscreen is useful when you're in bed just browsing whatever that you browse. I also do like the 360 flip. You can flip it to all sorts of angles to one that best fits your situation. If you do turn it into a tent, just beware that the speakers will be greatly impacted. It will sound kind of muffled and of course it wont be as loud since the speakers will be facing the opposite direction. Speaking of speakers, I was surprised by how loud these can get on such a thin laptop. They are positioned on the keyboard, so if you were to take advantage of the 360 flip and manipulate the position of your screen, again, keep in mind the audio could change drastically since you will be pointing your speakers away from you. In tent mode, I had to use my Airpods because the volume was just too low for me. If it were not for the $300 sale discount I got on this, I think I would have returned it simply because of its heating issue. If you can get it while its on sale, you may be able to justify the couple of issues it has.

I had the bigger 15" Envy and I thought it was great but wasn't portable enough for me so I exchanged it for the smaller 13" version. My first 13" Envy would keep disconnecting from the wifi so I returned it to BestBuy after some troubleshooting from HP Support. My second one, the fan was making this weird sound where it sounded like it was hitting something but I was able to fix that by blowing compressed air into exhaust. For general use this thing is great, boots up quickly, keyboard feels amazing, touchpad is smooth and responsive, nice screen brightness, metal chassis looks and feels amazing, good hardware under the hood so it should run fast but I haven't been able to push it. HOWEVER, the fan is ALWAYS on. AMD Ryzens have a tendency to require more cooling than Intel chips so the fan has to constantly stay on to provide cooling. Also, the Ryzen 7 is wasted on this thing because of the cooling issues so it cant perform as well as it can so youre better off getting the Ryzen 5. There's also quite a bit of screen glare that hampers the otherwise great display. Verdict: If you can deal with the constant fan noise than this is probably the most powerful 13" at this pricepoint. If you want Ryzen 7 buy the 15" because it can actually cool the machine.

I miss the HDMI/Mini DP. But a USB hub will solve the problem

I bought this from my local store, it is a pretty laptop, great design, beautiful display and powerful enough performance for the price. I like it, but it also gets problems. First, the quality control on this laptop is average, there is a little bit loose between the screen and the metal upper lid, and you can absolutely feel it by press on the edge of the top of the screen. Secondly, the hinge is not quite aligned properly, which makes the whole upper lid a little bit away from the bottom base of the laptop. Finally, the WiFi adapter on it seems not working well, at least for me. It will automatically disable itself and then reboot, which is pretty annoying. I have had it been repairing by the GS guys for it is still under warranty, hopefully, they can get it done. Overall, it is OKAY... but still a good looking laptop.

I love that’s it’s so lightweight and easy to carry on.. It’s a beautiful laptop that works fast.. it has facial recognition and touch screen .. the only thing is i’ve had it for 3 weeks and it’s gets really hot.. now keep in mind i’m a college student so I be on it for hours. But other than that great laptop and I think it’s better than a Mac .

This laptop is pretty fast and gets the job done. Touchscreen is good, and light up keyboard is a plus. I like the thinness of the screen and laptop itself.. but it’s incredibly fragile. Prob dropped it from a small height 1-2x and machine is completely coming apart already... that shouldn’t happen!!!

Got this laptop for wife for college. It's lite weight ,portable and has good specs . Works great and nice speakers. Only gripe is small hard drive but I will later put in a Tarabite one soon . Like a surface laptop without the heavy price tag. Highly recommend. Also nice lighted keyboard.
