About this product
Restock inventory available. First vinyl of 1996 album from Farm Dogs, a country rock band led by Bernie Taupin (Elton John lyricist). Last Stand in Open Country is a lost gem (originally released on the Warner tag Discovery in 1996), the kind of music you want to hear as the sun sets, stoke a fire and keep good company with friends and dogs (very much in the vein of Tumbleweed Connection-era Elton John). The band comprises Bernie Taupin on vocals; Jim Cregan on guitars and vocals (Family, Rod Stewart to name just two of his affiliations), Robin Le Mesurier on guitars and dobro (also Rod Stewart), Dennis Tufano on harp and vocals (The Buckinghams) and Tony Brock on drums. Black 140g vinyl. Album Tracks 1. Me & My Friends 2. Cinderella '67 3. Beautiful (I Don't Want to Be) 4. Shameless 5. Burn This Bed 6. Color Bar 7. Pretty Bombs 8. Barstool 9. You've been testing out all your angles, your arms and legs are tangled up there in your room, the Roof Dogs sing on Starpower, the penultimate track from InchHere You Are.Inch Written during 2020 lockdowns, the Roof Dogs' first LP leans into repetition, drawn out musical passages, and lyrical themes of isolation and fatalism. Musically the album is less concise than previous releases. The songs are longer and are arranged around extended instrumental passages, with lyrics sometimes taking a backseat to the band's playing. Keyboard instruments rise to new levels of importance, with almost every track including serious contribution from the synthesizer, organ, or piano. Despite these developments in style, characteristic Dogisms such as Maher's syncopated and groove-heavy bass lines remain. The record was recorded over 2021 between Strange Magic and Jamdek recording studios in Chicago, as well as the band's practice space and apartments with help of frequent collaborator Tristan Huygen.1.
