In the 14th century, deformed noh dancer Uni-Oh (voiced by Avu-chan) and blind biwa player Tomona (Mirai Moriyama) each knew ostracism because of their disabilities-but once they collaborated, their performances caused a cultural sensation. So much so, that a wary shogunate turned to covert, and then overt means of breaking up their partnership. Striking anime fantasy-musical from Masaaki Yuasa also features the voices of Tasuku Emoto, Kenjiro Tsuda. 98 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack Japanese; Subtitles English. In Japanese with English subtitles.
As the fantastic realm of Earthsea is threatened with extinction, a young prince and a powerful wizard venture forth on a perilous quest to restore balance to the world before it's too late. Based on Ursula K. Le Guin's popular novels, this lushly animated epic from Studio Ghibli (InchPonyoInch) and director Goro Miyazaki features the voices of Timothy Dalton, Willem Dafoe, Matt Levin, and Mariska Hargitay. 115 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks Japanese, English; Subtitles English. Two-disc set. In Japanese with English subtitles/Dubbed in English.
One of the best parts about being in a group of friends is that you usually have a couple of guardian angels watching over you. So, when Shinobu has to both write a script as well as make costumes for a play for the school festival, it doesn't take long for her classmates to realize that someone might have bitten off more than she can chew. Or write and sew, in this case. Fortunately for Shinobu's theatrical future, Alice, Yoko, and Aya are glad to pitch in, and that allows for a chance to reflect on their experiences in the days before Alice arrived. Will everything be finished in time, or will the audience be in stitches because of the ones coming apart onstage? There's no way to be sure until the last curtain call in KINMOZA PRETTY DAYS!
