Gallois / Prague Modern - Fujikura: Pascal Gallois Conducts Prague Modern - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Violinist Sylvia Huang, a prizewinner at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2019, and Éliane Reyes, the renowned virtuoso pianist, present a new disc bubbling with elegance and femininity. Linked by a keen musical rapport and an irrepressible friendship, they declare their love for Belgian Romantic music, embodied by two emblematic composers Eugène Ysaÿe, a natural musical companion whom every violinist has encountered or dreamt about, and Guillaume Lekeu, a dazzling musical genius taken from us all too soon. This recording reveals some skillfully chosen gems by Ysaÿe, including two unpublished early pieces, the Mazurka de concert and the Grande Valse de concert (the latter a world premiere). Lekeu is represented by the sublime Sonata for piano and violin, dedicated to Eugène Ysaÿe; the musicians had the opportunity to consult, with an almost fervent enthusiasm, the original manuscript in Verviers, the birthplace of both the composer and Éliane Reyes. A radiant album, overwhelming in it's sincerity. Album Tracks 1. Sonate Pour Piano Et Violon en Sol Majeur 2. Deux Mazurkas de Salon No. 1 Danse Le Lointain (Opus 10) 3. Mazurka de Concert (Opus 1) 4. Grande Valse de Concert (Opus 3) 5. Mazurka en Si Mineur No. 3 Lointain Passé (Opus 11) 6. Deux Mazurkas de Salon No. 2 Mazurka (Opus 10) 7. ?Antonio Caldara, a native of Venice, spent almost two decades at the beginning of the 18th century in the service of the Habsburg Emperor Charles VI as Vice-Kapellmeister. His musical duties also included supplying the Vienna Court Opera with a constant stream of new works. The present programme is based on extensive research by the bass Alexandre Baldo in the Vienna National Library. In the manuscripts of Caldara's vocal works, Baldo repeatedly came across bass arias that impressed him for their virtuosity and expressiveness. Baldo discovered that Caldara had written them without exception for Christoph Praun, a highly esteemed bass player and member of the imperial court orchestra at the time. For this recording, Alexandre Baldo presents a selection of arias composed by Caldara for Praun between 1717 and 1736. Album Tracks 1. 2021/22, a cultural season unlike any other, brings the 30th anniversary of Cypres. Musical renewal and reinvention is the essence for any record tag in today's environment. An enterprising spirit; a constant quest for newly composed works; firm roots in the local musical landscape; representation of prestigious names and advocacy of young talent all these are elements that constitute our particular creative formula. Now that we are 30 years old we can confidently take pleasure in sharing our musical philosophy with you. This first recording of our anniversary season provides a showcase for two gifted sisters who go back a long way with Cypres. Their joy in performing together is palpable as they present a program that is original in it's conception, intimate and deeply touching. This album contains a number of pieces that evoke memories - the musical equivalent of photos in a box in the attic. Some are original compositions for this instruments set, others have been arranged by the two sisters for the occasion. What would Frédéric Chopin have thought when he heard this arrangement of his Etude n°7 op. 25 sounding like a dialogue between cello and harp? This music is the very essence of life a subtle sway of memories, flashes of light, tears, death and smiles. Album Tracks 1. Nocturne pour violoncelle et harpe, Op. 12 2. Sicilienne 3.
