The Glass Hours are American songwriters Brad Armstrong and Megan Barbera. Their music blurs between Sunday afternoon country-folk and the Golden Age of the 1970s. Combining influences from Megan's mountain roots and Brad's southern roots, The Glass Hours is currently based in New York's Hudson Valley. Prior to forming The Glass Hours, Megan and Brad have written, performed and recorded for various independent projects. Megan's songs have been licensed worldwide to brands such as Naturalizer Shoes and San Miguel Beverage Co. Brad was a member of Alabama's Dexateens, 13ghosts and Maria Taylor's touring band, and has supported artists like Jason Isbell, Alabama Shakes, Drive-By Truckers, John Moreland, Meat Puppets, Azure Ray and Magnolia Electric Company, among many others. Navona Records presents some of the finest American voices of modern serious music on THROUGH GLASS, a brand-new compilation of recently-created works for piano - both solo and in chamber setups. Ovidiu Marinescu's Rorrim for cello and piano makes the start. Loosely based on a motif by Johann Sebastian Bach, it could be called a concept piece it's title, InchmirrorInch spelled backwards, is reflective of the mirrorings and variations of Bach's fragment therein. Bruce Babcock continues on a similar note with his riskily-titled Alternative Facts, a piece for solo piano characterized by a deceptively simple, mechanical main rhythm repeated in complex harmonies. As announced in the title, a deliberate systematic confusion prevails, and with astonishing accuracy. I'lana Cotton's ambitious The Return for piano, violin, and cello bridges the gap between Ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu and French avant garde composer Olivier Messiaen - and that gap is smaller than one might think. At 13.5 minutes, the work impressively centers around a beautiful dark mode and the melodic variations it generates. Alla Cohen's Three Film Noir Pieces were intended to be heard along two movies, Cat People and The Curse of the Cat People, both films from the WWII-era. Cohen's solo piano works reflect the composer's celebrated sophisticated style, and perfectly transport the eerie atmosphere of the films into music. Curt Cacioppo's Trio for Violin, Horn and Piano derives it's material entirely from solfège spellings of the names of the three players. The three-movement work cycles through a wide range of emotions, from whimsy to unhinged rage, and concludes with a quasi-tango with a political message. Peter Deutsch's fugue de Profundis Clamavi (roughly, Inchfrom the depths I have cried [to you, Lord]Inch) is a calm reflection on the human longing that creates but also transcends religion. Insp

Fessor (a.k.a. Ole Lindgreen) is alive and well. He has become the quintessence of the love of jazz - real jazz. He's the hero of the young ones in Denmark and has strong ties to three generations' experience of live music with beat and feeling. Since WWII, almost 40 albums have been released in his name on Storyville and Olufsen Records. He has played from Kap Horn (a jazz joint in Copenhagen) to New Orleans, to most of Europe, West Africa and Brazil - with bands like Fessor's Big City Band, Nulle and Verdensorkestret, and Papa Bue Revival. The music on this album was recorded around the dining table in Fessor's living room with Morten Ærø in charge, an adroit soundman (and drummer). A totally relaxed atmosphere with feeling and warmth emanating from every tune. Morten Ærø also handles the drums on the album, where the rest of the line-up consists of Peter Maroti on trumpet and flugelhorn, Chris Tanner on clarinet, Jakob Dinesen on tenor saxophone, Marko Martinovic on piano, Jens Sølund on bass. Glad to Be Here consists of a variety of Fessors own compositions and songs that has had a meaningful impact on his life and career. Album Tracks 1. Glad to Be Here 2. Louisiana 3. Devil Got My Woman 4. Moten Swing 5. Azure 6. Drop Me Off in Harlem 7. Blue Days 8. Moppin' and Boppin' 9. Don't Take Your Love from Me 10. Santa Claus Blues 11. Look Here 12.
