Haydn / Kammerorchester Basel - Haydn 2032 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Under the title Gli impresari, The Impresarios - i.e. The directors of the theatre troupes that Nikolaus I, Prince Esterházy engaged to perform in his opera houses - this album gathers together some of the orchestral works by Joseph Haydn linked by their origin and their reception; they were originally conceived as theatre music, before their metamorphosis into symphonies. The period from 1772 onwards, when Karl Wahr was responsible for the summer theatre programme at Esterháza, saw the peak of the multidisciplinary collaboration taking place between the court music directed by Haydn and companies engaged from outside. At the end of 1775 and the beginning of 1776, while Joseph Haydn was occupied in transforming his music for Collé's comedy into a symphony for concert performance, Karl Wahr was enjoying enormous success with his theatrical entertainments in the ballroom at the theatre in Salzburg. It was there, on 3 January 1776, that Thamos, King of Egypt was staged, a heroic drama whose choruses, musicologists now believe, were composed by none other than Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; for this Salzburg performance he also composed four instrumental entractes (recorded for this album) as well as a melodrama and a Don Giovanni-esque descent into hell. Album Tracks 1. Symphony No. 67 in F Major, Hob. I 67 2. Thamos, König in Egypten, K. 345/336A 3. Symphony No. 65 in a Major, Hob. I 65 4. Symphony No. 9 in C Major Hob. I 9

Chuck Allen Floyd - Tonight An Angel Fell - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Chuck Allen Floyd's debut CD, 'Tonight An Angel Fell' cements his place as one of country music's fastest rising and most deserving talents. While this Oklahoma native boasts a vocal style that is a cool, gravelly blend of Don Williams, George Strait and Waylon Jennings, it is his songwriting that sets him apart. In an age of watered-down, 'I was nothing before you' country music, Chuck Allen Floyd is a singer/songwriter with an honest to God point of view. Stylistically, Floyd is impossible to pigeon-hole and, track by track, leaves the listener wondering what is coming next. Some songs, like the title track 'Tonight An Angel Fell' and 'Mean Old Texas' sound like country standards one would expect to hear on an old vinyl record. Other songs, like 'Living Like Rockstars (in a honky tonk band)' and 'The Right Girl' bear a modern production style complete with overdriven guitars and rock and roll drums. Throw in a dash of the honky-tonkin'-hardwood-dance-floor sound of early 80's and 90's country and you'll start to get an idea of what Floyd is about. Lyrically, Chuck Allen Floyd is at his best when his admittedly 'twisted' sense of humor displays itself. Songs like 'I'm Not That Drunk Yet' and 'She's Gone And She's Never Comin' Back' reveal a rowdy, tongue-in-cheek edge, while 'Two Words' (possibly the highlight of the album) proves that he is a satirist in the tradition of Roger Miller. Still, Floyd knows how to be serious and shows that ability to great effect on tracks like 'She's Gettin' Even' and 'Every Heart Oughtta Have One.' A seasoned performer, Floyd currently tours everywhere from his original stomping grounds in Oklahoma and Texas to Europe with his band 'The Hired Hands' and has shared the stage with a list of performers that range from legends like Vern Gosdin to modern country artists like Blake Shelton to revered songwriters like Pat Alger and Walt Wilk

Dawn Landes - Meet Me At The River - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Through four full-length albums, Dawn Landes has blazed her own path with songs that are as fresh as they are timeless. Still, there's no mistaking that strains of Nashville reside in her voice and in her musical soul, and now, with her fifth album, Landes is finally bringing them to center stage. Meet Me at the River is Landes' self-described Nashville record, and she has assured it's pedigree by enlisting the production skills of Fred Foster, the Country Music Hall of Fame member who played a pivotal role in the careers of Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, and Kris Kristofferson. Album Tracks 1. Meet Me at the River 2. Traveling 3. Why They Name Whiskey After Men 4. Old Memories 5. Wind and Rain 6. What Will I Do 7. Southern Girl 8. How to Say 'I Love You' 9.
