About this product

This set was drawn from two 1974 sessions. The first was done with her regular trio - Connie Berry, piano, Charlie Howard, guitar, and Al Autry, bass. She picked a good set of standards and shows that she was every bit as good as ever - she was a year into her revival and at the top of her powers. There are ten numbers from the first session and it's hard to believe that she was ever retired. The second session was recorded a few months later when she was working at the Big Horn, an Atlanta nightclub part-owned by George Buck. Her trio is joined by a small traditional jazz group featuring Ernie Carson, cornet, Skip Derringer, trombone, and Herman Foretich, clarinet. She enjoys singing in front of a band and they were energized by backing her. Album Tracks 1. Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams 2. Good for Nothin' Joe 3. Until the Real Things Come Along 4. Embraceable You 5. Ain't Misbehavin' 6. Summertime 7. Hundred Years from Today 8. More Than You Know 9. If You See My Baby 10. Honeysuckle Rose 11. Contact Me Poppa 12. Old Fashioned Love 13. Let the Good Time Roll 14. Million Dollars Secret 15. St. Louis Blues

Peter Tijerina - Just Yesterday - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Trombonist Peter Tijerina is a musician whose Inchfluid approach [that] never compromises his robust tone on the hornInch and whose understanding of the Inchpowerful, unapologetic lineage of free-wheeling post-bopsters Grachan Moncur III and Julian PriesterInch (Michael Dease) combine with his deeply emotive playing to create music that touches both the heart and mind of his listeners. With Just Yesterday, Peter marks his formal debut not with gaudy gestures, but with the patient, empathetic craftsmanship of one who has experienced the breadths of love and loss, and the powerful spectrum of all that lies between. Album Tracks 1. It Could Happen to You 2. Just Yesterday 3. Lovely 4. Strange Breakfast 5. In N' Out Blues 6. It's One or the Other 7. Neither Confirm Nor Deny 8. Deviation 9. Stardust 10. This Could Be the Start of Something Big
