About this product
The combination of organ and violin goes back to the Baroque era. Many sonatas for violin and basso continuo can be executed just as well on the organ as on the harpsichord, sometimes even more colorfully than with harpsichord accompaniment. It was this tradition that Henri Marteau followed when he wrote his Fantasia for organ and violin op. 27, recorded here for the first time. The world-famous violin virtuoso and educator was also a highly productive composer, who apart from his chamber music wrote two violin concertos, a cello concerto, a symphony, an opera and several organ works, to which he was inspired by the warm Romantic registers of the pneumatic organ then in use in his new home of Lichtenberg in Upper Franconia. Edgar Krapp directed an organ class at the Musikhochschule in Frankfurt, was a guest professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and assumed a professorship at the Munich Musikhochschule, holding that position until his retirement in 2012. He has served on the juries of such celebrated international competitions as the ARD Competition in Munich, ION Nürnberg, Linz Bruckner Competition, Grand Prix de Chartres and the Musashino Competition in Tokyo. In recognition of his artistic and educational services, he was awarded the Frankfurt Music Prize and the E.T.A. Hoffmann Prize of the City of Bamberg. With solo performances in greatest concert halls of the world including the Berlin and Munich Philharmonic; the Kennedy Center, Washington; Avery Fisher Hall, New York; Tonhalle, Zurich; Goldenen Saal, Vienna or the Scala, Milan; working with directors like Sergiu Celibidache, Charles Dutoit, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Yehudi Menuhin, Jun Märkl, Andris Nelsons and Marcello Viotti, Ingolf Turban commands a repertoire of works, some of which have rarely been performed on stage. Album Tracks 1. Fantasie FÜR Orgel Und Violine Op. 27 2. Aus Den ZWÖLF Stücken

The title of the record emphasizes the role of the flute in the repertoire, while at the same time makes references to the brillante style, which developed in piano music in the first half of the 19th century. It's distinguishable features can be found in the works presented on this record. The brillante style grew out of the tradition of the keyboard music of C. Ph. E. Bach and W. A. Mozart, and it's main representatives were J. N. Hummel, C. M. von Weber, J. Field, F. Kalkbrenner, Z. Thalberg and F. R. Ries. A significant factor which enabled it's development were the improvements in the construction of the grand piano, which allowed for the performing of masterly figurations and passages. The rise of the brillante was described by J. Chominski and K. Wilkowska-Chominska in the following way As the name itself suggests, it was characterized by the brilliance of play with bringing to the fore the difficulties regarding performance and technique. It was created by virtuosos of the grand piano, who wished to show off with their play. The style was developing in the early decades of the 19th century, which was the time when the affluent bourgeoisie extended the group of eager viewers and listeners. Many a time did the performances of the competing virtuosos resemble modern sports competitions. The play of the artists was evaluated from two points of view the technical skilfulness and the ability to conduct cantilena. The basic features of the brillante style were therefore the presence of brilliant figurations and cantilena sections. The style also brought about some changes to the formal conception of the works. The typical phenomenon was, for example, the reversal of the classical characteristics of the themes of the sonata form in the brillante, the first theme was often characterized by cantilena and the second by figuration. The second theme could have been just

Dmitri Kitayenko has been Music Advisor of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra since the 2011/12 season. And if there is something with which Maestro Kitayenko has a special affinity, it is the Russian repertoire. It was not surprising, therefore, that he decided on Stravinsky for the first recording of this cooperation between the Orchestra and the Oehms Classics tag. This recording includes Stravinsky's very first work, the Symphony in E-flat major, as well as the rarely performed Suites 1 &2 orchestrated by Stravinsky during the years 1921 and 1925. These works for chamber orchestra, however, were originally composed from 1914 to 1920 during the composer's years of exile in Switzerland. The Zagreb Philharmonic is an orchestra boasting a 147-year-old tradition of distinguished performing in Zagreb and Croatia. It has been a promoter of the art of music across Croatia as well as the country's cultural ambassacdor in the world. As one of the trademarks of the city it operates in, the music institution that boasts a long and notable tradition embodies the image of Zagreb as a Central European urban center of music, art, and culture. Album Tracks 1. Symphonie in Es-Dur Op. 1 2. Suite NR. 1 FÜR Kammerorchester 3. Suite NR. 2 FÜR Kammerorchester
