  • Key Specs
    • Recommended Room Size: 450 square feet (The recommended area size in which the product is designed to operate and produce optimal results, such as the desired heating or cooling. Generally, running a unit too big or too small for the space will result in ineffective operation and wasted energy.)
    • DOE SACC Cooling Power: 6500 british thermal units (The Seasonally Adjusted Cooling Capacity (SACC), implemented by the Department of Energy (DOE) after 2017, is a rating of a portable AC unit's cooling power. This rating is based on revised testing that more accurately measures a portable unit's performance, taking into account that these units do not vent heat in the same way as wall or window units and therefore were not cooling as effectively as the previous BTU ratings indicated (based on the ASHRAE-128 standard prior to 2017). Generally, the new cooling power ratings are lower than previous BTU ratings and can more reasonably be compared to the cooling capacities of other types of AC units.)
    • ASHRAE Cooling Power: 10000 british thermal units (The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) rates the cooling power, or capacity, of portable AC units based on their effectiveness in cooling a single room as intended. Prior to 2017, this was the accepted standard used for comparison with other types of AC units. However, it did not accurately reflect the cooling power as it did not account for the heat emitted from the unit that would circulate back into the space. The Department of Energy (DOE) Seasonally Adjusted Cooling Capacity (SACC) standard is now used to determine appropriate BTU ratings of portable AC units.)
    • Number of Cool Settings: 3
    • Number of Fan Speeds: 3
    • Airflow Rate: 194.1 cubic feet per minute
    • Remote Control: true
    • Integrated Heater: false
    • Sleep Mode: false (Enabling this mode sets the unit to first reach the desired temperature, then gradually increase the temperature over a period of time until it reaches a new set temperature, typically several degrees higher than the initial cool setting. This mode helps save energy while keeping the room comfortable.)
    • Timer: true
    • Auto Shut-Off: true (Feature automatically turns off the product.)
    • Window Venting Kit: true (Indicates whether supplies for venting the unit through a window are included.)
    • Energy Efficiency Ratio: 8.3 (The ratio of output BTUs (British Thermal Units) to input electrical energy (watts) at a given operating point. Generally, the higher the number, the more efficient the unit. Though higher efficiency units are typically more expensive upfront, they may offset the price in energy costs over time.)
    • Combined Energy Efficiency Ratio (CEER): 6.1 (The standard used to measure energy efficiency in window and room air conditioners by the Department of Energy (DOE) as of June of 2014. CEER measures the ratio of output BTUs (British Thermal Units) to input electrical energy (watts) in standby mode and while the unit is operating. Generally, the higher the number, the more efficient the unit. Though higher efficiency units are typically more expensive upfront, they may offset the price in energy costs over time.)
    • App Compatible: false (The product can be connected to a program or software application on a mobile device, which then receives collected data from the product.)
    • Air Conditioner Type: Portable
    • Hose Configuration: Single (Generally, dual hose configurations are more efficient and better suited for cooling larger areas. Single hose configurations typically consume less energy and are best for cooling smaller spaces.)

Q: Reading the description, it says 6,500 BTU DOE/10,000 BTU ASHRAE. I'm not sure how many BTUs this is?

A: Calculated using the traditional method, this AC is rated at 10,000 BTU. The new method (DOE) accounts for the heat generated by the AC unit itself, which in turn, lowers the effective cooling power of the unit to 6,500 BTU

Q: When transporting can you lay insigna portable a.c on its side or lay down to fit in trunk ? Tks

A: If you do allow 24hrs in upright position before turning unit on so freon can circulate in compressor

Q: Does this unit have a water tank that needs to be emptied or require a drainage hose?

A: Good luck with this. I may have gotten a bad one - the hole to drain the tank is up at the top of the tank. I was not able to fit an aquarium hose into the hole. It was small enough, but it seemed to be blocked, so the hose would not go into the tank. I had to return mine. I ran it for about 10 minutes. The vent hose got very hot - 119 degrees f. It was a very flimsy connection. When I brought it out to my car to return it, water was spilling out of the hole. I have no idea how that much water accumulated in 10 minutes. I bought model NS-AC10PWWH9 and it claimed it was discontinued, I got it for 249.00. I had faith in the Insignia brand, and the reviews were good, but this was a total waste of time and effort for me. At least I was able to get my money back.

Q: So does this unit come with a venting kit? In the description it says no - so im not sure if I need to buy something?

A: Yes it does. Comes with a hose and window vent. The window vent is adjustable and fits most windows.

Q: How do we access filters to clean

A: Take the back off it snaps on the inside of that

Q: How often does the water need to drained from the unit?

A: Depends on the humidity in your area. The higher the humidity, the more frequently it will need to be drained. For me, once a month or so..

Q: I was wondering is there a hose for any water that comes out. And if it doesn't have a water filtration where would water be coming from its pouting from the bottom...

A: No hose to drain water. But there is a storage area for the water and an indicator on when it is time to empty it. We have been using this for 3 weeks now and havent had to empty it yet.
