James Taylor - JT - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

James Taylor's first Greatest Hits album, released in 1976 and consisting of his well-known early '70s recordings on Warner Bros. And re-recordings of some of the songs from his 1968 Apple Records debut, is in the rarefied sales category of double-digit millions. The second part of Taylor's recording career has been different from his first, especially when it comes to hits. All of Taylor's Columbia albums have been good sellers, hitting gold or platinum sales. But he has scored only four Top 40 hits on the pop charts InchHandy ManInch his only Top Ten single on Columbia, InchYour Smiling Face,Inch InchUp on the Roof,Inch and InchHer Town Too.Inch It's a different story on the adult contemporary charts, where he has been a mainstay. But Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 is not so much a collection of Taylor's chart entries as it is a best-of. There are several tracks, among them InchSecret O' Life,Inch InchOnly a Dream in Rio,Inch and InchSong for You Far Away,Inch that were never hits but have become audience favorites, frequently played in Taylor's concerts. And there are chart singles, notably InchOnly One,Inch which got into the adult contemporary Top Ten, and InchHard TimesInch and InchHoney Don't Leave L.A.,Inch which made the pop charts, that have been omitted. That said, this is a well-balanced compilation that should please most of the singer/songwriter's fans and that serves as a good selection of his work, circa 1977-1997. Album Tracks 1. COVERS is the CD that James Taylor fans have been anticipating for years. Recorded live with his full band in a barn in Massachusetts that was transformed into a studio, the album is a treasury of songs he has performed live over the years, but never recorded. It is an American songbook of tunes made famous by artists as varied Buddy Holly, the Dixie Chicks, the Temptations, Leonard Cohen, George Jones and Eddie Cochran, but embraced and interpreted by James Taylor in a way that makes each one his own. It is a significant work by one of the greatest artists of his generation, which pays tribute to classic American songs from Broadway to Nashville, Detroit to Memphis and across all boundaries. COVERS is in itself a classic James Taylor recording. Album Tracks 1. It's Growing 2. (I'm a) Road Runner 3. Wichita Lineman 4. Why Baby Why 5. Some Days You Gotta Dance 6. Seminole Wind 7.
