About this product
The year 2012 marks the Wergo tag's 50th anniversary. For half a century, Wergo has been synonymous with contemporary music. The tag's catalog reads like a virtual who's-who of modern music, both in terms of composers and performers. From the beginning, the intent of founder Werner Goldschmidt (from whom the tag derives it's name) was to provide listeners with a snapshot of current musical activity and innovation. Goldschmidt's tag and mission, now managed by the Schott, is maintained to this day by a dedicated staff that is constantly striving to bring the best new music to the attention of the world. This specially-priced commemorative set features five discs, with one from each from the tag's five rich decades. Featured composers include Cage, Nono, Schnebel Stockhausen and Stravinsky. It was 1865, the sixth centenary from the birth of Dante Alighieri, when it was decided to erect a statue of the poet in Piazza dei Signori, a work made by Ugo Zannoni, challenging the Austrian nomination which at that time ruled the region until the following year. In the very same year, in the province of Verona (S. Martino Buon Albergo), Dionigio Canestrari was born, a composer of countless works for organ and the liturgy, inspired from his keen reading of Dante in composing some of his best musical pieces on his Divina Commedia. The album includes an anthology of chamber lyrics and instrumental pieces for various vocal textures with the accompaniment of the piano and the harmonium. Marcello Rossi concerts and leads the singers and musicians in this world premiere recording by the Veronese composer. Album Tracks 1. Romanza Per Violono E Pianoforte 2. From the Russian fairy-tale enchantment of The Firebird to the austere ritual at the end of his Requiem Canticles composed over half a century later, Stravinsky's extraordinary creativity embraces a range of styles and tributes to composers of the past. He started under the guidance of Rimsky-Korsakov in pre-revolutionary St Petersburg and ended his life in America having made a very special kind of peace with the rigorous (serial) techniques of Schoenberg and Webern. Yet his homage's are always heartfelt, and he always remains himself truly the most comprehensive and wide-ranging musical genius of the twentieth century. Album Tracks 1. Introduction 2.
