Kin - 4K Blu-Ray [4K Ultra HD Blu-ray]

I enjoyed this one a lot, it’s from the producers of Stranger Things w/ a great cast including Dennis Quaid and James Franco.

I think the thing to remember about this film that most people seem to be upset about; its not actually all that action PACKED. It is primarily an odd story about a couple of brothers and their run in with some nasty criminal characters, and yes it's almost entirely due to one of them being pretty dumb. He gets in way over his head and has really no choice but to drag his kid brother along for the ride. That's the primary story at play here, they just dropped a full on plasma rifle into the middle of it to kick it on its head. There's an excellent sense of escalation and even suspense involved, but in order to even make it to the plasma rifle's first firing you'll have to sit through a goodly chunk of the film. I get why this upset some viewers, but I found this approach refreshing. It allowed me to get invested in the characters and main story before the sheer chaos began. It's fairly gritty, and more than a little sad, but also full of humor and touching moments. If you allow yourself to care about the characters more than the rifle. I feel like that's pretty important. Every role is well acted, especially the mains, and James Franco clearly enjoys this kind of role because he shines as usual. Loads of fun to watch. The weapon itself is also a well crafted and written item, with satisfying action and a decent (if somewhat cryptic) explanation.

I was looking forward to the 4K and HDR to make the colors pop in this one but sadly it didnt stand out. In fact most of the time it looked like I was watching a bluray because of the grainy filter over the film. Movie was good but the money would be better spent on the bluray version.

I grew up on science fiction, both books, comics, and movies thanks to my mother who loved them also. Kin is one of those movies that I wish had been me when I was a kid, discovering alien technology, etc. Fun movie that I and my oldest son enjoyed watching. Hey! We're huge fans of Stranger Things and this didn't disappoint.
