Limited edition of 2000 numbered copies on orange coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Country icon Kris Kristofferson released his debut album Kristofferson in 1970, marking the belated start of what would turn out to be a long and illustrious recording career. He was a pioneering figure in the outlaw country movement, moving away from the polished Nashville sound and toward a more raw, introspective style. Lyrically, he was very politically aware, further distinguishing himself from other country acts. Many of his early songs were written by Kristofferson while on a side job flying workers to and from oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, which he would then pitch in his time off. Via June Carter he attempted to reach her partner Johnny Cash, who later invited Kristofferson to join him at the 1969 Newport Folk Festival. Vinyl LP pressing. Includes digital download. Red Headed Stranger is the eighteenth studio album by outlaw country singer Willie Nelson and released in 1975. After the wide success of his recordings with Atlantic Records, coupled with the negotiating skills of his manager, Neil Reshen, Nelson signed a contract with Columbia Records, a tag that gave him total creative control over his works. A concept album, Red Headed Stranger is about a fugitive on the run from the law after killing his wife and her lover. The content consists of songs with brief poetic lyrics and arrangements of older material such as Fred Rose's InchBlue Eyes Crying in the RainInch, Wolfe Gilbert's InchDown YonderInch and Juventino Rosas' InchO'er the WavesInch. Despite Columbia's doubts and the limited instrumentation, Red Headed Stranger was a blockbuster among country music and mainstream audiences.
